Oliver appeared on this podcast. I guess the hosts are two (incredibly annoying) butch dykes? But of course they identify as they/them/zirs/non binaries or whatever. Or I guess so. It wasn’t clear and I think it changes based on their mood.
Oliver begins by saying he had a “crisis” a couple years ago cause he want on a date with a guy and they “ended up having amazing sex.” It made him think maybe he’s straight? But six months later the guy….came out as a woman. Surprise! He tells this retarded story all wide-eyed and excited like we haven’t heard some variant of it from every single troon. He says, regarding the guy, “I was having sex with you from the FUTURE” to which the hosts react in uproarious laughter. Easily amused, I guess.
The hosts ask Oliver about how the UK doesn’t have free speech. Oliver says that there is a big difference between “American queer stuff and British queer stuff.” He tells the hosts, “there’s a bunch of shit you can say that I can’t say.” The hosts say that it’s “crazy transphobic” in the UK and that it’s “all JK Rowling’s fault.” Oliver says that he would be sued by JK Rowling if he said that. He also says that the British entertainment world is so insular and if you say the wrong thing you will be persona non grata. Whereas in America if you flame out in NYC you could go to LA or vice versa.
Oliver says that American journalists are who he relies on to report what’s going on in the UK (regarding transphobia) because British journalists would be “sued into oblivion.” Oliver says, “we rely on American journalists like Erin Reed” lol.
Oliver says that he watches his Ps and Qs when he goes out cause if something goes sideways “that could make headlines” and it would hurt the trans community. He goes on to say that this is why it makes it hard to date as well, he says if he hits on someone and they are not in to it “it could make headlines” because they could be a Tory or something.
One of the hosts says she went to Amsterdam and the red light district. The host says she’s “incredibly sex positive” but was surprised that she felt uncomfortable in the district. She says she supports sex work in theory but in practice she’s uncomfortable with it. Oliver says he was only in a strip club once and it was on a date with a stripper. He says “a couple” people came up to him and they were hitting on him. He explained he was on a date with the stripper though.
Oliver says he does not like when people use they/them pronouns for him. He says it can be used as a “silencer on the he/him gun.”
Oliver says he was trying to get cast a few years ago and he kept losing roles to more femme trans actors who were “like models,” whereas he is 6ft1 and grew up learning fencing and Shakespeare. But Oliver says then House of Dragon came along though and now he has leaned in to the “action trans” thing and he cut his hair and works out.
The hosts ask if Oliver is lesbian or bi. Oliver says he’s bi, which means “I’m attracted to every woman and about five men - three of whom are just about to become a woman.” Oliver goes on to say (in response to a host saying something) that “some women have fucking amazing dicks.” Oliver goes on to talk about when he was Oliver and three separate girls dumped him and became lesbians.
Oliver says he loved the House of Dragons character because it was written for a cis woman. Or rather the producers only criteria was a “woman over six foot.” Oliver says because the producers were American - they don’t think or care whether it should be a cis or trans actor. Whereas it would be a “fucking crisis” whether to go trans with a British casting agent or producer. (He really hammers home his Americaphilia, damn.). He says that the character in HoD is “canonically gay and trying to fuck everything.” He says “action women” is his niche in the industry now.
Oliver says he went to an “in quotes, ‘all boys’ but me as a kind of double agent” high school and the school went co ed while he was there. For P.E. you could either choose soccer or hockey. He says all the boys chose soccer and all the girls, “and me,” chose hockey. Field hockey. His friend said, “why are you doing this, are you trying to get pussy?” And Oliver said he just felt he should be over there with the girls. He says the “trans women in sport” thing makes him laugh cause he sucked so bad and the girls kicked his ass.
Oliver ends by plugging DEX and he tells them the bit people bite people line to which hosts ERUPT in laughter.[\spoiler]
