Opinion Trump repeats ‘51st State’ jab and false trade-deficit claims - Trump’s 51st state jokes a bullying technique, former adviser to Trudeau says

Donald Trump is repeating his contention that the U.S. should annex Canada, ratcheting up his rhetoric amid threats of a continental trade war.

In a social media post at 3.23 am Eastern Time Wednesday, the U.S. President-elect also repeated his false assertion that the U.S. has a US$100-billion trade deficit with Canada.

“No one can answer why we subsidize Canada to the tune of over $100,000,000 a year? Makes no sense! Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State,” Mr. Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. “They would save massively on taxes and military protection. I think it is a great idea. 51st State!!!”

While there is no serious movement in either country for Canada to join the U.S., Mr. Trump has now made variations of the comment several times, seemingly to needle Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Mr. Trump is threatening to impose tariffs of 25 per cent on all Canadian and Mexican goods entering the U.S. when he takes office on Jan. 20. The President-elect has said the levies are meant to force the two other North American countries to stop migrants and fentanyl crossing their borders into the U.S.

But Mr. Trump has also repeatedly raised the trade deficit, which most economists dismiss as unimportant but which he views as a scorecard for economic success.
According to U.S. figures, the country’s trade deficit with Canada in 2022, the last year for which it has published numbers, was US$53.5-billion on more than US$900-billion worth of trade.

That deficit is mostly related to crude oil, of which the U.S. imports more than 1.6 billion barrels a year from Canada to make up for its own shortages. Imposing a tariff on it would likely significantly drive up gasoline prices for U.S. consumers.

Mr. Trump first made his “51st state” comment to Mr. Trudeau during their dinner at Mar-a-Lago late last month, saying that Mr. Trudeau could serve as Canada’s governor. The Canadian government dismissed the line as a joke.

The President-Elect has subsequently referenced it several more times in Truth Social posts. Most recently, he used it on Monday in reaction to Chrystia Freeland’s abrupt resignation as deputy prime minister and finance minister.

“The Great State of Canada is stunned as the Finance Minister resigns, or was fired, from her position by Governor Justin Trudeau,” he wrote, before deriding Ms. Freeland as “totally toxic” and “not at all conducive to making deals.”

Ms. Freeland was the point-person on trade negotiations during Mr. Trudeau’s first term, and both Mr. Trump and some of his advisers have previously expressed irritation with her for refusing to make concessions.

Jab? We should let the Canadians take a vote if they want to disband the mass jeet importation machine or not. I don't see anything in the constitution saying that territories cannot voluntarily join the US.
I don't know how many people are aware of this but tons of Indians and others who spend years getting Canadian citizenship leave the country and work elsewhere once they have it. I don't have exact figures to understand the scale of it, but it does happen.
It's kind of stupid because they're technically supposed to be helping to build/live in Canada and not fucking off somewhere else for more money that they don't pay tax on.

That's still the best argument for switching to a purely race based immigration quota system. Jeets and chinks leak into other countries and then pretend to be "australian" when they try to get into the US. The US is already overladen with foreigners who have dragged down its entire economy. Jeets and chinks have single handedly ruined STEM academia because of its willingness to sponsor immigration visas. Infinite foreigners becoming cheap labor in PhD and postdoc programs to build up years spent in the US to try getting a green card. The years spent as a student count differently. There's no good reason for a US citizen to bother working their ass off when there's 5+ jeets or chinks ready to bleed to death over the worst of entry level positions. You don't even get the best chinks even. Those guys are starting to stay in China. You get midwit chinks and "genius" jeets.

So yes, annexing Canada as a 51st state would actually cut down on the number of jeets shitting up the US if you expelled the "students" and temp workers during the annexation.

I'm not fully opposed to people getting citizenship if they're qualified but they should actually be required to live in, work in and spend their money in the countries that they get citizenship in. They should get a sort of "conditional citizenship" where this is a hard requirement for the first 10 years unless they have a legit job that requires them to move. If they can't commit to the host country then the host country shouldn't commit to them.

I also think there should be restrictions on how much money they can remit to their families back home - it doesn't have to be super restrictive but they can't just work in a first world country and send 95% of their money home because it fucks over the local economy for literally zero benefit.

A lot of them just get it because it's a free meal ticket for lifetime healthcare and it also means they can travel more easily.

So they'll nig the system to get citizenshipz stay for a year, complain about taxes, move somewhere else to get a tax free or lower tax income and then when it comes time to retire they'll move back and fuck up the entire healthcare system for everyone else.

(Note: above I'm talking about skills based immigration or whatever. If someone gets it because they invest in a a country or a skills based immigrant spends above some threshold then there doesn't need to be any restriction)

Technically Canada would be 13 new states for the US instead of just one.

Other than that, the only sin Trump is making here is not just promising to annex Canada outright. Think of all the people in Canada (the third world mudpeople squatting here don't count) that are suffering without the US.

I wonder if there is going to be a Texas situation in Canada? All that needs to happen is Leafs creating their own Alamo and once that happens, Jeets will be the first to get flushed. Pretty sure the Chinks would love to flush the poo too.

The real question is, will the US be willing to take Canada as the 51st state?

I wouldn't want Canada as part of the US. The people up there are bunch of leftist weirdos and we have enough of our own already. I feel the same way about Greenland. That's what we need more leftist white people. Minnesota or Wisconsin but colder.
Canada is more based than you might think. The reason our political class is so bad is because of two things mainly:
A) you need to be fluent in french to hold office
B) we have a reverse electoral college

The Canada -> US pipeline of immigration is ancient. Some of my great-grandparents used it to get around the 1920s immigration laws restricting immigration from Eastern Europe so they were legally considered "Canadians" when they applied for their green card. The old immigration system assumed all Canadians were white (correct) and assumed all Hispanic immigrants were temporary farm workers (not so correct but Democrats wouldn't have it any other way), so there was no quota on either group.

He should go province by province, starting with the ones who can (and they can) leave confederation immediately. Canada has a tenth of the US's population so it is pretty ludicrous to think of it as one state.
As long as jeets who don't belong there (every fucking tfw and international student, whose agreements are with the federal government) are out of the picture, US firms can start moving in and doing business and people from around the US will start moving in too, boosting the population. GDP meme line goes up. Very few downsides.

I really do wonder if Canada will get Annexed. Anything is possible with Trump. This last year has been so fucking wild. I'm excited heading into 2025.
I don't think it'll happen but it'd be hilarious if it did.
