In the past few months, queer and trans people have been ditching X for quieter, gentler territory in the form of Bluesky. But while the app remains mostly free of grifters, NFT bros, and anti-science weirdos, it still has a few kinks that need to be worked out.
Last week, Blocked and Reported podcaster Jesse Singal—a reporter who in recent years has continued to lean into anti-trans talking points and junk science in stories about trans youth—joined the new platform, and there he remains, despite trans folks’ intense displeasure. Singal’s reporting has already stoked the fires of rising anti-trans sentiment in the past few years, and while blocking users is a much easier process on Bluesky than on the current iteration of X, it’s still disconcerting that a platform priding itself on being a safer, saner social media space hasn’t told Singal to f*ck off yet.
Per TechCrunch, Singal is “the most blocked user on the social network,” but his presence on the app still feels like a harbinger of doom. Queer and trans users are calling for Singal to be denied access to the platform altogether, in the form of a petition edging up on 20,000 signatures.
The petition clearly states the dangers of allowing Singal to remain on the site, claiming that “Singal has distributed private medical information on Bluesky without the consent of the patient,” referring to a past story concerning St. Louis Children’s Hospital “whistleblower” Jamie Reed. There’s also Singal’s alleged relationship with the anti-trans harassment group Kiwi Farms, the force behind the doxxing and SWAT-ing of many prominent trans women.

Here's the thing, though: Jesse is actually right about this.
While Fong-Jones being a brickface rapist is accepted Farms lore, it likely isn't the literal truth. Well, the brickface part is. But as for the rape: at some point last year I tried to dig up any tweets surrounding the Zurich dog hair incident, and came across an interaction between Fong-Jones and a third party (someone who knew both Liz and the supposed rape victim).
I don't have the screenshots handy (I did post them somewhere in Fong-Jones's thread), but the gist of it was that the "rape victim" actually did have some kind of severe and worsening dog phobia (of which Liz hadn't been aware before their Zurich encounter).
I think Fong-Jones is an awful person and don't personally care if people do call him a rapist, but I'm just an anonymous shitposter. If Jesse takes his responsibilities as a journalist seriously and looks at the situation objectively, the conclusion is that the rape allegations are a nothingburger unless more evidence is shown. The supposed victim has never come forward, and there is really no evidence other than that tweet by Fong-Jones himself.

Yeah, the fact that not even anyone here found the original accusation has me suspicious that it’s true. That said, anyone who identified as male would’ve been crucified for unironic use of the term “consent accident”

I didn't follow the "consent accident" allegation too closely, but it appears that most of the public details are from LFJ's account. No-one other than him and the other party can know what really happened, but it kind of looked like he was trying to get ahead of any accusation, and present his own side of the story before an accuser did. Maybe the other party really has a phobia of dog hair, or maybe he was saying, "if you hear anything about an incident from this person, it was because of their insane fear of dog hair," and then possibly working the other side to intimidate them into staying silent.
I don't like accusations hanging over someone when they can't prove their lack of culpability to whatever standard is demanded these days, but LFJ's retelling looked off, and Singal was presumptive in declaring him innocent. IMO.

I understand people urging caution, but outright dismissing the allegations based only on reading Liz's side of the story is foolish, IMO. There's a lot of smoke, and it goes beyond just the "Consent Accident".
Jesse Singal is free to believe whatever he likes, of course. I'm not going to be upset about him having a different opinion or not caring enough to look deeper into it.
(Funnily, Liz Fong-Jones himself seems to hope/believe that KF users have turned on Singal because of this. Sorry, Elliot! We don't all subscribe to black-and-white, friend-or-foe thinking like you.

You can't build a platform based around the desires of a bunch of mentally ill troons. At least, not one that's going to blow up and go mainstream, while attracting funding from investors who aren't also mental.
Utterly hideous troon, Fong-Jones, trying to imply that Bluesky has any moral high ground over KF is hilarious. I've never seen so many death threats, violent fantasies, incitements to suicide etc. posted by so many "good" people in one place in such a short space of time, plus they're fine with doxing as well, but Elliot's primary goal is not to ban the people doing that, but to ban the victim. LOL. Fucking clown shoes.
