He's still there, they just showed off his dusty dirty tranny home a couple months ago.

I think for regular at home data hoarders and pirates, buying dual high capacity drives (1 for storage, 1 for backups) and setting a calendar event that reminds you to put in your backup drives, run a snapshot and and put them back in a fire resistant box every month -- is probably more worthwhile than buying a shit ton of old data center drives.
You're not doing the calculus, buddy jim.

All hard drives fail. They all fail. it's just a matter of when. That can be after thirty minutes, six hours, two weeks, eight months, or a decade. You have no way of knowing. You have no way of predicting. There's some SMART stats that corellate with imminent failure, but there's nothing that can actually give you any indication that a hard drive is going to fail in a consistent way. Sure, there are some that sometimes have non-standard functionality that still manage to function a bit, and that's a great indicator, but usually, they just die without warning because some invisible parameter has gone out of spec and it can no longer function as the nanometer-precision marvel of mass-scale mechanical engineering that hard drives don't get enough credit for being.

If you're only doing a once a freaking month backup from non-redundant systems, you're going to lose data. It doesn't matter how new your HDD is. It's going to die, and if you're really unlucky, your backup will fail to power on. Shit happens.

You buy HDDs at half or less the price of new, you get a 3-5 year warranty, you do RAID, live NAS, live backup, ZFS scrubs, ZFS send, happy wife, happy life, ya feel me g. In the short-medium term, a new drive is MORE LIKELY TO FAIL than a used enterprise drive with 3-5 years of uptime. You need to rely on RAID EVEN MORE WITH NEW DRIVES. There's actually no good or logical reason to buy new as an individual unless you're aiming for whatever the current highest density drive is that hasn't been liquidated out of any installations yet.

They let go of him at the end of August

Since then he's been sitting on his ass talking about writing and vague projects but not actually doing anything.

I've bought refurbished drives off of eBay and they've been generally alright. You can get really good deals on refurbished SAS drives because normies can't use them. I watched Linus' video and there's nothing horrifically wrong with it, but based on how they spend so much time explaining basic concepts, it seems geared towards storage novices meanwhile it's demonstrating a system almost nobody would build at home. Just seems like a flex.

Also it's funny that Linus now has to buy his own hard drives and I guess money is a little tight if he's going for refurbished drives. Gone are the days when he'd get a pallet of drives from Seagate for nothing.

For data hoarding/home server/home lab on a managable scale, it seems to me the G**man nail-painting contrapoints-dick-sucking faggot Wolfgang might be a better guide.

Thank fuck he supplied a parts list, because there is no way in hell I could listen to a whole video of him talking. Why do these people always use that same intonation? It's like they heard you shouldn't talk in a monotone, so they just decided to alternate between two different monotones instead.

Techlinked got on my algo and i'm enjoying it, its very old school. all the videos are under 10 minutes and there are light jokes here and there. reminds me of the feed on g4 except instead of hot chicks its the "cool nerd" giving you the lowdown. Riley is pretty good at it, probably my favorite of the Linus tech tips channels just by being real content instead of whatever the fuck is on the usual channels.

With Germans it is either the Neutral monotone voice. Dragonlord effeminate or Hitler speech. Roman from DerBauer does the more effeminate German accent. These are the people who call phones "Handis"

As much shit as we give Linus, I do think a lot of his core staff are entertaining and good at their jobs; notably Riley, James and Luke. Riley does a decent job with TechLinked and fulfills the mission statement of the series perfectly. I think the decision recently to remove the "heckler" role from the writing was a positive one overall too.

I just really wish that faggot who does so many Short Circuit videos with the fucked up painted nails, the lips and the abhorrent haircut would get Anthony'd. I find it funny how quickly the LTT community moves on from Anthony given how big he was between like 2017 and 2020.

IMO, everyone was disgusted by that worthless fat blob. It was just "twanspwobic uWu" to say it out loud.
Now that he is gone, no one needs to act like they care about him. Thus he is quickly getting memory holed.

I avoided Anthony vids before his uWu phase because he's gross to look at.

I'm not expecting model quality people on YouTube but at least take care of yourself.

This has been all over my recs for the last day. It's primarily uncovering scummy business practices by Paypal's Honey coupon extension, but he takes a detour to shit on LTT for figuring out Honey was a scam 2 years ago and never telling anyone.

Gamer's Nexus next video:
"The Problem with Linus Tech Tips Part 2: Honey Boogaloo."

He failed to tell me why this is a bad thing though, specifically their cashback scheme. Yeah they’re giving me the customer a pittance of the commission they’re stealing from LTT (89 cents out of almost forty dollars), but that’s still a pittance more since LTT gives me nothing at all.

The stealing part is the bad part.

They’re stealing from people ruining YouTube videos by stuffing advertisements everywhere. I don’t think we need to be too sympathetic here.
Doesn't have to be sympathetic to gang up on the even bigger dick among many. Just because I think Honey stealing affiliate links is a big dick move doesn't suddenly think I mean the affiliate links are fine.

I always found honey sketchy and just assumed they were going to steal all my browsing and purchase history. Never installed it. I don't know if what they're doing is illegal, but it's definitely predatory. I wonder if they'll be a class action from youtubers, but I'm not sure if they would want to rock the boat against an advertiser.

RE the used drives, Server parts deals is legit. I bought a few used drives for my NAS earlier this year from them. The ones I got have a 2 year warranty, but even still I went with a RAID Z2 for extra resiliency (and I actually monitor and scrub the array unlike Linus).

The funnier part is LTT itself. As pointed out in the video, LTT found out what Honey was doing and the only "transparency" was on their user forum. Are they legally obligated to run a story on their main channel? No, but it does call into question Linus's integrity. No one should be surprised that there is no greater mention, even on the WAN Show. LTT is techinfotainment anyway, and serves only for Linus to purchase yet another chink TV to make a video.
Has LTT mentioned anything about NZXT?

No, but it does call into question Linus's integrity.
Remember Linus has being going round claiming he is MR "consumer advocate man" and "fuck the corpos". It is what got him burned over his backpack and warranted ass raping from Gamer's Nexus.
He seems to always end up with a foot in his mouth. Because he is a preformative "cool CEO". Who is down with the socialism and trannys.
He probably played this down, because not only is it hard to track, gain evidence for and prove to a general audience. But it is "standard industry practice". Meaning if he raised a stink about it. You get blacklisted. It is why he partnered with one of the others who do the same thing.
