Not only is it not taboo, it's become a basic job benefit to have some private healthcare insurance.
I think the reason it's much cheaper than in America is because the truly horrendously expensive shit like cancer gets basically shoved to the public system. Private might pay for seeing a specialist sooner to get it diagnosed but the money for the chemo and radiation will be coming from the state.
And the NHS isn't terrible at treating cancer, once you actually have a legit diagnosis.
One thing I'll say about the American system though, due to the absolutely INSANE amount of money that's flowing through the entire messy system it also means it's the best place to do medical R&D in the world. If you have some ultra rare gigacancer or genetic disease chances are there's some speciality hospital in the US with some treatment option. Good luck paying for it though.

No, they're not. The first one (as you note) says no insurance. The second says total billed with no entry for insurance payment. The third shows $500 due out of a six figure bill. The fourth shows insurance paid it all and $0 due. So for the presumably insured (at least 3 & 4), looks like $500 due on hundreds of thousands of dollars billed. This shows the opposite of what you seem to be advocating.

$610k is outrageous. And it indicates that providers are charging insane prices. They know what insurance will cover bc they have negotiated rates - or know what will/not be covered. If they charge more than that they know going in that that the individual will be liable for the rest. So again not an insurance co issue, but perhaps a provider issue. And - $428k of the bill was for room and care. Absent complications requiring weeks in hospital, that's unconscionable.

Everyone forget that the hospital and doctor's will absolutely assfuck you with charges and bills and fees if they can.

I supported Rittenhouse, and still do as recently as this thread, because strictly speaking Kyle's shooting was self-defense. The gun never "crossed state lines" or whatever technicality gunshy hippies were hoping to catch him on, and while Kyle put himself in a bad situation, he wouldn't have fired a single shot if Rosenbaum didn't threaten to take his gun and then charge at him. However, it is a real bad look to not only support vigilante justice based on the shootees' pasts (which Kyle would not have known at the time), but to also get two of their pasts wrong. I support Kyle because I'm ideologically consistent about gun rights and self-defense, you support Kyle because you think your whole life's a fucking team sport.

Another way to look at this, if you want to brag about and compare acts of vigilante justice: Kyle's vigilantism was blind, but managed to kill a child molester, killed a skateborder with psych issues that threatened his own family, and vaporized the bicep of an ex-con that was illegally carrying a firearm. Luigi's vigilantism was direct and targeted, intentionally took out a scumbag that was responsible for rejecting one-in-three claims that were filed with his company for the sake of lining his pockets. This is double the national average claim denial rate and resulted in countless deaths. If we're justifying the shootings by who was shot and the foresight of the shooter, I gotta say I prefer our Italian Stallion here.

NO, fuck that. You pay for a service, you get the service, no arguing, no spending hours on the phone, no appealing, none of it. That's not being fucking lazy that's getting what you're fucking owed. That's how it should be, and I don't care about any rationalizations or whataboutism on profit margins. You should never have to argue with your shyster insurance company for a claim. Oh, the nogs and illegals fleece the system? Too fucking bad, maybe lobby for some enforcement of existing laws instead of the ability to fuck over paying American customers.

I pay hundreds of dollars per month and maybe use my insurance for something that isn't just a regular visit once every two years if you average it all out, my family is healthy and dilligent and if I have to argue for something or appeal I am immediately going to be livid and it is 100% justifiable. Back of the envelope, I've paid about $35,000 in health insurance premiums in the 12 years I have had insurance. No pre-existing condtions, no being fat, no smoking, none of it. I'm the textbook low-payout customer. First just me, then my wife and I, then our children. I shouldn't have to argue for one red cent to be covered. Last claim I made was dental, but it was the same. I bit down on a stray piece of bone in some meat and cracked a piece off a molar. I needed a crown. My dentist had to "resubmit" TWICE for my insurance to cover it. That's fucking crap. My dental records show I take perfect care of my teeth and have no other dental work. I have better teeth than the dentist himself and probably the CEO of the insurance company, there is no justifiable reason to do anything but pay up immediately.
