the difference between the McDonald's manager and brian thompson is the McDonald's manager doesn't have the power to condemn my mother to death for being sick in the wrong way, despite never missing a premium
That's the problem. I don't think I disagree with anyone here that Luigi seems pretty brilliant.
Luigi was intelligent enough to pick a very specific person out of like 370 million that resonated with a lot of people. On top of that he didn't really politicize it. Many people have perceived his actions as being "just" or acceptable.
When people see that this is acceptable and he has become a folk hero then the inevitable copycats will try to do the same thing and they're much dumber than Luigi was and they pick targets that they personally think are egregious but actually aren't anywhere near as egregious.
For example if some mouth breathing retard does the same thing to Elon Musk or some tech CEO and justifies it with "they're a billionaire! Eat the rich! Muh heckin' transphobia!" It's going to be very different. What if they interpret the praise Luigi has gotten in this specific case to mean that if they target someone else based on their own belief system that they will also get the same level of praise?
Besides the inevitable politicizing of stuff like this, keep in mind if there are copy cats they're also going to be stupider and instead of this ultra precision attack it's likely that innocent bystanders would be harmed.
So what I'm trying to say here is that just because Luigi was patient and disciplined and picked someone who had the power to condemn your mother to death and didn't harm any innocent bystanders - don't expect the next Luigi to uphold the same standards and don't expect the next Luigi to take action and think they too won't also become a folk hero (which I would argue is why we still get columbine copycats... they see the reaction the Columbine guys got and love the Columbine aesthetic and they try and do something to get the same reaction)
More than that, the outsized amount of media attention and the adoration of the public very well may spur the mass shooter type to target CEOs and publicly reviled figures instead of schools and supermarkets. Positive public attention is even better than negative public attention.
And more than that Brian Thompson was a total ghost as far as CEOs and publicly reviled figures go. For all of the justification that people have given for him being a righteous target his personal LinkedIn had like 5-10 angry customers writing stuff and he received a few personal threats (allegedly, according to his wife who he was separated from)
There are way more hated CEOs and "publicly reviled figures" online who literally have nowhere near the amount of "moral debt" that Brian Thompson had (I call the death/sickness/suffering caused by his actions/inactions "moral debt"). There are CEOs who have to have giant security teams whenever they go anywhere and there are also CEOs who can't even afford that kind of security.
What happens when "the next Luigi" is fucking Christine Westside Chandler taking "action" because of fucking blue arms thinking they're going to gun down a SEGA executive in broad daylight and become an instant sensation and heartthrob for women and gay guys worldwide? What happens when "the next Luigi" is whatever crazy person you want to pick off of social media who is aggrieved over some totally minor/insignificant shit and tries some shit like this?
And btw this is why I said earlier that no sane person with a "following" would publicly come out in support of Luigi unless they're fucking retarded and irresponsible. It's one thing to not come out in support of him to avoid murder become acceptable and it's another thing entirely when one of your mentally unstable fanbois decides what you write is the fucking gospel and decides to gun down 20 people because of it.
