The Windows OS Thread - Formerly THE OS for gamers and normies, now sadly ruined by Pajeets

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
is there a KMS activation tool that will install Terminal Server CALs so that you can have more then one remote login at a time? even just two would be great

is there a way to auto start Steam when my server reboots without using an autologin? so I don't have to remote into the server, login, then steam is runnign for remote play?

I did a fresh install of W11 LTSC IoT and installed my programs with winget for the first time. Installing 50 programs with one command was beautiful.

Two typos in the new Live Caption feature. Last sentence. "donwload modle."

Don't worry, I clicked NO. I can sleep easily knowing my voice is safe and only what I type is being sent directly to MS and the NSA.
This really shows how incompetent the pajeets/DEI hire women & troons that work for MS are. They had a brief moment of clarity from Win10 1903-1909 interestingly enough.

  • be Microsoft
  • release a newer version of your OS that needs SPECIFIC hardware to run it
  • no one uses it
  • decide to force that shit onto everyone still running Win10, even though their hardware isn't "compatible"
  • at the same time continue to make things worse for Win10 users with whatever new update you force onto them by adding shit no one asked for... ever
  • Then out of nowhere go "lol jk don't actually update!"
People that still use software/OS from this company are suffering from battered-wife syndrome and deserve what they get. This is a skeevy sneaky-ass company that will lie to your face while doing bad things behind your back (like removing complete control over what you do).

Microsoft never forced Win 11 updates onto incompatible hardware or suggested that you should. If you tried, you got this message:

This PC doesn’t meet the minimum system requirements for running Windows 11 — these requirements help ensure a more reliable and higher quality experience. Installing Windows 11 on this PC is not recommended and may result in compatibility issues. If you proceed with installing Windows 11, your PC will no longer be supported and won’t be entitled to receive updates. Damages to your PC due to lack of compatibility aren’t covered under the manufacturer warranty. By selecting Accept, you are acknowledging that you read and understand this statement.

No lie was told. They've consistently told you not to install Win11 on unsupported hardware, and now they're reiterating that warning a little louder.

Why did you type in Linux 4 times? MacOS can't run shit and Linux has the same issue
Firefox vs Chromium meme all over again.

There are non-linux alternatives to windows, but to be real with ya, they are too niche to be worthwhile.
FreeBSD still exists, but good luck finding any software compatible with it. (TBFH I never used it, so maybe I'm wrong kek)
Nostalgiafags can still buy Amiga computers in 2024 so yeah.
KolibriOS exists, so you know.
ReactOS is binary compatible with Windows and is probably the least likely to be a pain in the ass compared to most major linux distros, but the project's devs been MIA and updates take forever. It's probably not worth using over Linux since it's prolly buggy as shit.
TempleOS. Obv had to mention it for the memes 'n shiet.

Depends on what you want to do, however for gaming linux is fairly viable at this point
I want to run every random EXE file that I have found in the last 15 years to do 70 esoteric actions. Converting things, updating things, extracting things, accessing things; random little devices and mods for old consoles and who knows what.

That and access my NAS via SMB and have it not be a garbage experience.

Windows 11 isn't even good at either of these things.

I'd definitely give vanilla wine + winetricks a go. Add winetricks and install dxvk and see how far that gets you. A lot of older stuff and even games runs quite well without even needing any help from steam proton.

This is because steam put quite a lot of work into proton and particularly dxvk which has been making its way down the release pipeline for a while now. At this point vanilla wine + vanilla dxvk is actually quite flexible.

Depending on your window manager you might need to enable the like 'run in window' thing (also a winetricks winecfg thing) where it spawns a fake windows display in a window. Enabling that on LMDE for me let me run every old game I currently have, some of which I installed from the old original CDs even. Recent examples off the top of my head: sim city 4, planescape torment, warcraft 3 (non reforged).

If you need to move on from the Nouveau drivers to the proprietary nvidia drivers that experience legitimately sucks but I'm just saying even without doing that there is a lot it can run now.

MacOS
Linux Mint
Ubuntu
Arch
Even fucking ChromeOS can be a replacement
"Windows 11 sure pisses me off!"
Why?
"I can't run Photoshop on a 12-year-old PC!"
So switch to Linux.
"Oh, I can run Photoshop on my old PC with Linux?"
No.
"But then how did it fix my problem?"
It's not about fixing problems; it's about switching to Linux.

Weirdly enough Linux is better at playing old games then Windows is. Unless there's some esoteric DRM

Linux is shit, and used by trannies. Fuck off to the Linux thread so you can goon over your limited software options. Fags.
I swear there is subliminal messaging in Linux code that makes you put on programmer socks and chop your dick off, like those coca cola adds embedded into the frames of old movies that were played at theaters to sell more coke. Linux has ran through the geek community like cocaine did the black community. Windows is made by only the horniest of Indian men wanting bobs and vagine, it keeps you straight.

I've said it before in the Linux thread, but literal decades of time have been wasted because linux people didn't want to admit that they have a tinkerer's OS, and that if you want a windows alternative you are better off cooking one from scratch. Very similar to the difference between krita and gimp. Gimp has been such a gimped (heh) software for years, that it's competition was created and dominated it's niche in the tume they have tried to unfuck it.
