The designated Root Beer (and Sasparilla) thread - For me, it's 1919

are the people in this thread mentioning barqs joking? that is the worst tasting root beer i have ever tried.

as for birch beer,a few months ago i bought some off the internet since it is impossible for me to find locally and i really liked the stuff. i think i might like it better than most root beers.

I tried the root beer flavored Poppi and it tasted strange. It took me a while to place it, but it's like sweetened Worcestershire sauce. Who can drink this shit?

Whoever decided apple cider vinegar belongs in soda that isn't marketed as shrub belongs in a cardboard compactor.

This stuff is pretty good if you wanna make it yourself too. Just get some sugar, water, yeast, and let it ferment for a week or two, then youll have some delicious root beer.
I have Big H brand root beer extract. I am confused that Hires is in the name because that was a separate brand founded in Pennsylvania YEARS before this guy opened his joint. Anyway, I like to put it in a 24oz water bottle with a little bit of simple syrup and it does the job just fine for me.

The actual recipe on the extract calls for dry ice and that's gonna be a 'no' from me. I don't fuck with dry ice, but I'm guessing they don't use yeast because they're Mormons or trying to appeal to Mormons.

ETA: Found a recipe for it using yeast and not dry ice.

Henry Wienhards is good. Broken Tooth Brewry(local joint) makes good root beer, but 49th state brewery (another local) makes their root beer too sweet for me.

I'm a pain in the ass and am more of one to drink glass bottle root beer and sarsaparilla, so I really love Boylan for root beer and Sioux City for sarsaparilla. Sioux City Sarsaparilla is impossible to find around me now though and it's driving me mad because I miss that shit. Also love Moxie and I didn't know I could get it from Cracker Barrel so bless those of you who mentioned it here. Been meaning to try birch beer though. Any recommendations for that?
