General Wrestling Discussion

as much as I hate to admit it, you are absolutely correct, Bucks and Omega likely enable Tony if anything, its just sad to see this retarded Money Mark take up the legacy of the Southern-style wrestling WCW evolved out of and turn it into an absolute Smark-fest that isn't much better then 4th graders wrestling on a trampoline rather then anything that could be legitimate competition to WWE, and hell ive been enjoying WWE over the past year and a half but competition is good for any industry and AEW will most likely never be a good one, imo they are a undeserved number 2
Putting active wrestlers as EVPs from the start is already a red flag. Even worse if your EVPs *cough*borebucks*cough* are devoid of drawing power and are immature as well. Cody at least had the sense to leave AEW after a few years, returned to WWE and became a world champion.

AEW is depressing to me. That could completely turn it around if Tony Khan just took a step back. They gave plenty of talent. They gave access to TV and streaming. If TNA could survive and turn it around (not to the level they once where but at least they are stable) than AEW can.

But how do you convince the billionaire son to stop being a tard? And honestly, if Tony wasn't in charge, why would Papa Khan keep this shit going?

The main problem is the stop/start nature of AEW booking. Someone will get over with the fans, they'll be on every show in some capacity for a couple of months and then just fucking disappear.

A recent example is The Outrunners. It'll probably happen to Harley Cameron next. Even Ospreay has been devalued by lingering in the upper midcard. He should be taking the main belt off Mox tonight instead of maybe winning the stupid tournament belt.

I guess in the end 600k of these guys are better off watching Dynamite because then they don't go pidgeon horned into WWE where all the normal fans are and cry and scream at HHH when he doesnt do what they want

The fucking neckbeard gate keeping annoys me to no end. Anything directly even slightly to kids, like CM Punk doing the goofy shower save on a house show, "that's not real wrestling!"

Meanwhile a 100 lbs Japanese girl is doing freaking three Canadian Destroyers for a kick out on 2.

It's utterly retarded for a promotion to actively ignore kids. It's like someone complaining about a mall having a Santa display at Christmas because the holidays are only supposed to be for adults.

Unpopular opinion: I think Flair was overrated. All his promos and matches were basically the same. Once he was no longer the big dog in the company, he was essentially nothing (after NWO started).
I think Flair was fine with that, he had been a top guy for a long ass time by the mid-90s. The nWo and the Horsemen only clashed twice at the top of the card from what I remember. Fall Brawl 96 when Flair and Arn were part of Team WCW in the War Games match, again in the War Games match at Fall Brawl 97 as the culmination of the which faction gets Curt Hennig storyline, then a mini-feud between Curt Hennig and McMichael/Flair which ended at World War 3 1997

The Horsemen in general had been on or near the top for so long by then, the members were getting older (that's why they brought in McMichael and Curt in the first place). I think they were all just fine with nWo vs WCW taking the attention while they got to relax, have a less grueling schedule, still get their paychecks, and keep stylin n profilin with the rats all over the country

He should sign up for a kf account and tell us how he really feels about the dub lol. He wanted so bad to just get some shit off his chest about that company down south.

Small amount to talk about with Worlds End. The only two interesting things from the pre-show was Double J making an announcement on his career on Wednesday, and watching the battle of the Asses at the beginning between Toni Storm and Leyla Grey.

Kyle Fletcher vs Will Ospreay
This match started hot, as all Ospreay matches do. I gotta admit, Kyle putting on more mass does give him more superstar presence, until he opens his mouth and you hear the bogan outta him. Will decided to bleed, and boy did he bleed. Some brutal spots here and there but the pace never slowed down. Overall a pretty great opening match, with Ospreay going over.

Kazuchika Okada vs Ricochet
Okada finally shows up to AEW. It only took 9 months... This match was very by the numbers, even for Ricochet. Ricochet got in some great offense, then Okada bounced back and made the most of the opportunity to win. After the match, someone throws bog roll at Ricochet. Then Swerve comes out to shit on Ricochet, then hands out more bog roll to the crowd throw at Ricochet. Should be a hot feud next year with these two, which I hope sees Swerve get back in to the main event scene.

Mariah May vs Thunder Rosa
I found this match to be very bleh. While I do like May, it's become VERY apparent she doesn't have great chemistry with most of the womens division. I do put that down to her being too inexperienced still, and now that she's been thrusted in to the leadership role, May is incredibly exposed. The way they are going with Storm, they might wanna speed it up to get the belt off May quicker. That, or give it to Statlander to be a transitional, which I will explain later.

MJF vs Adam Cole
Didn't care for this at all. MJF went over, and somehow Adam Cole got the last laugh... Cole lost, and acted like a heel to the response of cheers from the crowd and MJF got beat down. What the fuck???

Konosuke Takeshita vs Powerhouse Hobbs
I'm going to give Hobbs his flowers here. The man went to work in this match, and it showed how much he has grown as a big meaty boy wrestler. Takeshita is by far the most complete wrestler in this company, mechanic wise, and Hobbs selling his knee on small moves really shows his ceiling is a lot higher than people would admit. If he went to the WWE, I honestly can see him getting strapped to the moon. There is a future for him in the industry. Great match, Takeshita wins as it should be.

Mercedes Mone vs Kris Statlander
This match was hard for me to keep focused early on. I really do not understand the hype with Mone, and I really find her basic and boring. What I did see though was Statlander making a claim that she is beyond the TBS title with the work she put on here. As the match went on, I started to take note of Statlander and the shit she was doing. She also took a lot of the brutality here, as there were moments in the match that you honestly thought Kris was done. Eventually, thanks to Kris, I got my focus back on the last 7 minutes of the match, and it was a fucking treat. No matter what Mone was doing, Kris just kept coming back at her. The last move of the match was poorly executed, which led to a Mone victory, but somehow Statlander looked like the winner. She sold her boots off, made everyone look like a star, and sold the ending of the match as well. I doubt Tony will do it, but Kris should be in the Womens World title scene, considering she has the looks, the charisma and the moveset for AEW to be that next step.

Will Ospreay vs Kazuchika Okada
I was thinking to myself, this should've been the main event. And it really fucking should've been. If you've seen them wrestle in NJPW, then this was yet another heavy hitting fight. As Ospreay has gotten older, he has slown down a bit. When he fights Okada, Will seems to act like a normal human. High quality match here, and as stated before, Okada finally showed up to wrestle. This was match of the night, which isn't a shock... And what also wasn't a shock, was post match. Chris Daniels comes out to announce that he is no longer an EVP, and therefore could not present the belt to Okada, but then said that Kenny Omega can, as he is an EVP. Huge pop, everyone marked out, now we are all waiting for the eventual swan song of Omega vs Okada.

Jon Moxley vs Orange Cassidy vs Hangman Page vs Jay White
After all was said and done, this 4 way match fucking SUCKED. I'm sorry, but I can kind of understand what Moxley is trying to do, but it's so over the top that I'm rolling my eyes at every segment he's in. All he had to do was walk in with his group, kick the shit out of EVERYONE, and leave with little words. But here we are, as more "Stars" get fed to the machine. Pin Eater Jay White took the L here, because of course he would. The only man who has fantastic mechanics in pro wrestling and who can offer a lot more than OC and Moxley, ate the pin again. Jay White's AEW career died when he lost to a one legged MJF with help from BCG, tonight pretty much burried him. Jay White needs to leave the company and get back on track, because his career is on life support right now. Speaking of life support, as the Deathriders decide to start their beating on White, FTR comes out to the roar of meh from the crowd. I loved FTR, then they got shoved down our throats and now I can do without them. They decide to dim the lights for a big surprise, that got ruined imedietly, because the moment the dimmed the lights, Rated FTR popped up on the screen... spoiling a returning Adam Copeland... DURING THIS WHOLE MATCH, they decide to show Christian Cage in the expensive box seat area with his title shot oppurtunity, then show Hook looking at Cage two boxes down. Hook will never get over, and I can already see when Cage cashes in, Hook with ruin it. This helps no one. Cage walks off after seeing Cope, and then we get the best part of this whole thing. Cope goes for the mic, to give Mox a piece of his mind, only for the mic to not even work... The sound guy fucked everything up, decided to play Adams music and mute the mic... After what felt like 10 minutes, Adam said something to Mox and we are off the air.

This event was pretty good, until that main event stunk up the arena. Having Omega come out before Copeland, pretty much crushed any chance that main event had of being watchable.

Now to my shock, I went out for about 45 minutes, because fresh air was needed. I come back hoping that this presser isn't gonna be long.

Rated FTR
- Adam talks about how well he has recovered. Was cleared for a while, but decided to stay home due to the hurricane. It's hardwired in him to take risks in his career, but he has to remember that he's in the tail end of the career, not a new guy.
- FTR Bald rams his bald head up Adams arse, with just enough push to make sure his moustache tickles Adam's taint.
- Goal is to be champions with Rated FTR (Urgh... can we fucking not...). Wants to have a match with Mox that no ones ever seen before, wants to have that grindy, gritty old school NWA fight with Mox. (How about no blood?)
- FTR Gun talks about how much of a fan of Cope he is. Says Adam helped him a lot in his career. Can work well with anyone (true), and are friends outside the promotion. FTR Gun is dealing with family issues, but Adam has been helping him out.
- FTR Bald talks about life, head still firmly up Adams arse. Adam looks like he doesn't want to be here at the moment.
- Tony wants to know how it feels to have their first match together, considering they are close friends. Stupid question to be fair.
- Some fluffy piece about how they are helping Ashfield. (I won't shit on them for this. They are doing a fair bit of charity behind the scenes as well, so good to hear)
- You can tell they are actually legit close as a group. I hope this works out well for their commuinity.

Tony Khan
- Talks about how many great moments in AEW are around December.
- What other oppurtunites for AEW in the future. (Tony has entered shill mode. I doubt I'm gonna get much out of this presser...)
- As Tony waffles on, he mentions about all the builds that are on the go, and how they are gonna be leading to a great Dynamite and Collision. Not even gonna push them further... ugh.
- Can AEW see being in the Hammerstein Ballroom being a yearly tradition? Very open to it.
- Talks about the negetivity of the product that festers online, are there any plans to counter it? (Of course, a doctored question from The Wrestling Observer...) Talks about the Wembly figures as an example lol. But in all seriousness, Tony doesn't really address the question fully, but at least states they achieved something sustainable (Fair). Tony learned a lot about media rights that he has never realised before, claims the companies digital presence will be growing a lot with the simulcast. And Tony is looping his words... non answers...
- Question on how both shows have sold out (WWE and AEW). Shows how strong world wide pro wrestling is at the moment, and shows how strong Orlando is as a pro wrestling base.
- Last question (yes!). Is there a favourite memory of wrestling in Orlando. TONY KEEPS SAYING SO MANY GREAT MATCHES. THIS FUCKING GUY HAS NO IDEA!!! He finally clutches his pearls and gets some matches out of his mouth.

I will say this, Will Ospreay has been a blessing for AEW. They should be greatful he chose them, because if he went to WWE, I'd dare say Ospreay would be one of the nails in AEW's coffin.

Well yeah, with Punk gone this dude has shine the shaft of someone. I never really got the hype behind The Revival/FTR. They are at best mid on the mic and in the ring.

@Shipping Steel I agree with your sentiments about Kris Statlander. However the reason she is stuck in the TBS division is likely due to the fact that Tony does not trust her to stay healthy. She has had more than six injuries in her time in AEW, with her required to wrestle in knee braces as a result. That said, the division isn't going anywhere. I cannot realistically see anyone taking the title from the charisma void in Mone.

I hate that I can almost predict that Moxley is going to blade like a motherfucker. He's going to make up for lost time, any time Edge even looks at him, Mox's gonna slice his own head open.
I blame Moxley on why blading isn't so special anymore at AEW. If I'm not mistaken, Moxley was the one who said that there should be blood in matches or some shit like that. It's elementary that if you spill a lot of blood in every match you have, people won't find it special anymore and we know that Moxley will find more ridiculous ways to up the violence in AEW. Dude might not admit that he likes to go to indie death matches instead where people staple themselves and use long fluorescent bulbs to smash each other like just another Abdullah the Butcher match.

Tony was asked about a women's Continental Classic recently as said he'd love to do it if he could have enough popular wrestlers healthy at one time.

I don't think it a direct dig at anyone in particular but AEW has a lot of green women workers and there is usually one or two who the fans like that are out injured at any given time because of this.

Yeah, just AEW's overall injury rate seems to be higher than WWE's, which is strange given how much more travel and mileage WWE workers tally up.
In WWE you have more authority figures in your ear to curb your bad ring habits. If Mox told Tony that he plans on cutting a finger off his hand during a promo... Tony would say no, but he'd have to think about it first.

reminds me of a rob black story homeless jimmy told me once

rob: jimmy, we're gonna do an angle where we cut your arm off in the ring
jimmy: i don't think that's a good idea rob
rob: what's the problem? we have doctors in the back, they'll sew it back on
jimmy: that's not how that works

The style in AEW is a little bit quicker and a little bit more risky in a lot of cases.

Also, they have a lot of guys who started out in the bingo halls who are dinged up to begin with and probably have bad habits from whatever strip-mall school they initially trained at. That's a huge advantage that WWE has with NXT, they take time to train people out of the dumb shit they do and make them consistent. AEWs version of this is that some guy who trained some of your current talent says that so-and-so is a good hand and they get signed without their work needing to be tidied up.

Danielson, Dustin, Jerry Lynn, Kenny and few other vets backstage make themselves available before TV when the ring is set up to work with whoever wants to learn but AEW badly needs a formalised feeder promotion where talent can go for a year or two to get their shit down. RoH should be this but it is just Dark 2.0 with it's own set of belts and a handful of PPVs.
