Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

You're also leaving out the multiple mass holocaust events in Dead Ends.

I cannot mention enough how much "muh rubber bullets" and "muh tacos" is a fucking travesty. No, the eugenics program doesn't even register since nobody else seemed to fucking care.

I'm starting to wonder if using firearms is something these 'content readers' or consultants or whatever is considered to be haram to them. There was a Magic the Gathering set that came out this year that was Western themed that also full on avoided firearms.

I hate this line of thinking because it's the sort of shit Grummz or Endymion would start parroting and I don't want to think I'm becoming full retard, but I'm curious if there's other properties in say, the last 2-3 years that have had similar treatment.

It suddenly showed up in the Minecraft EULA so you're onto something there.

I for one welcome anyone that has earned the title of "arcduke of transphobia" from Kate. That little rat has 100% been infecting this game for a long time now so I will gladly let him infest this game if it means the fever will boil her.

Her twitter leak was a huge eye-opener for me. Ever since that ShB qoute where said removing proper pronouns for the pixies was "a secret tool that will help us later" I've been quietly dreading the day she and her ilk gain enough power to turn the game to shit. DT in my eyes was just the full realization of what a few bad actors can do to completely shit on a game.

Story and setting advisor? Kate.
The tranny VA for Wuk and random viera Solution 9 citizen? Hand picked by Kate.
The garbage american voice actors in general? Hand picked by Kate.
Subtly adding american gender degeneracy to dialogue? All Kate.

I also choose to believe she's responsible for all the healers being braindead by only hiring other trannies that can't play the games to read feedback on the forums, but that's really just coping from me that SE can't possibly be this retarded.

As Gravemind said, I don't want to trade one retard for another. And lol at thinking Grummz is capable of affecting any sort of change. Dude is a grifter through and through.

"Localisation is writing and taking liberties is part of the job". And then they wonder why Japan is now pushing for AI translation.

There is always going to be a little bit of adaptation you need to do, especially since Japanese has some words which often carry different respect connotations (for example, the word "you" is usually not directly translated, since it's considered a bit rude to refer to someone as "you" if you're not of a higher status than them), but you very rarely need to take much artistic liberties (one of the only examples I've heard of is if you're needing to translate a colloquial expression between languages since the reader may be unfamiliar with the expression and interpret it as a "quirky expression in this fantasy world" when it's not meant to stand out).

And as for the moral argument, no, you're not hired to go off-script and "add your own touch". I compare that to "what if an artist sent off their work to a printing company for posters and the printing company opened Photoshop and began adjusting the proportions of the work without informing the original creator.

Also, just gonna say this, as someone who could probably be considered a "pretty good healer" (I hope so at least, since I heal savages and ults), seeing someone go "let me enjoy a job where I don't need to hit things" immediately makes me think of those healers you sometimes get in dungeons where they don't do any damaging GCDs and just run around dodging mechanics while doing the occasional heal.

They've got it the wrong way round. Aside from satisfying "saved the run" moments, healers are actually most fun when you're trying to optimise your gameplay so you can spend less time healing and more time DPSing. The best fights to heal are the ones that are demanding enough that you need to be actively healing, but the best healers are able to keep very high DPS uptime because they plan all of their heals out (for example, with SGE, knowing when to use Holos since it's longer duration means good players will know when to use it so you can mitigate multiple instances of damage with just one cast).

To be fair, I think at least some of the game's charm has come from the localisation team at least where it comes to flavour text. I'm sure I've laughed at jokes or random dialogue lines that weren't in the original text but fit well into the tone of the game. I won't defend all of it but the game would not be the same for me without Thal's Balls. The difference is that Koji Fox actually worked with the Japanese writers and was involved in building the world instead of just taking a shit on an already finished script.
And also, you know, isn't a complete retard.

Japanese has a lot of considerations, like honorifics like you had mentioned, but there's also a lot of wordplay with different sounding and different looking words/phrases amongst other cultural stuff like you had mentioned.

There tends to be 2 schools of thought when it comes to localizing -- adjust it for the audience you're selling to or keep it as 'true' to the source material as possible with minimal changes. One is more 'authentic' in literal meaning and the other is more 'authentic' in tone. There's arguments to be made for both, but if there's some really niche joke being made by a character that ruins a comedic moment because the audience doesn't get it, I'd argue it should be changed/adjusted.

Yeah, this is a real problem with the current generation of translators and localizers, which you can see all over the place. Yes, localization is important and yes it is writing of a sort, but you are not the one coming up with the ideas and are not the 'author' of the work.

There's a big difference between someone like Ted Woolsey crunching out imperfect translations that are trying to stick to the spirit of the work (although, sometimes, he erred) and someone else deciding that this is the perfect opportunity to start teaching people about troons (or whatever) because it is a 'teachable moment' or 'I didn't take my daily dose of antipsychotics and the voices in my head are telling me this character is totally nonbinary (or whatever.)'

Leveled all my crafters to max and thought it would be s good idea to craft the ilvl 720 gear then found out I would have to get the ilvl 690 gearset first and meld it on top of having to complete all the crafting job quests up to SB. Not sure if this will be worth it considering 7.2 will have scrip gear.
Guess I should finish all the crafter quests at the very least, been puting them off since I beat ARR MSQ.

... I cant tell if troon, or unfortunate dyke.
Leaning towards dyke. Also this thing has a WEF page.

all the crafting job quests up to SB.
Or you know, you can just buy things off the market board.
This is the recommended way to deal with the heavensward crafter quests because of the fact that you need master recipe books to do them.

Zepla just released her scathing review of Yawnfail:

She's not wrong about DT, but I always found Zepla to be a grifter herself who basically latches onto and capitalizes on any little bit of drama for engagement because she can't hold an audience otherwise.
Her spat with Xeems about what constitutes cheating in a WFR, her meltdown over TOP, and her tendency to switch her tune and opinions when it suits her helped me to realize that she wasn't the shining example of positivity she and her fans like to advertise her as. I also personally find her to be unbelievably boring.

Zepla just released her scathing review of Yawnfail:

It's pretty comprehensive. I know a lotta people here are gonna point out the voice acting from Wank Lmao not being addressed, but it's probably for the best if you wanna convince normies "nah the story sucked". Otherwise you're gonna spark up culture war stuff.

I'm glad she pointed out that all of pre-release marketing was just totally wrong. It wasn't a "relaxing beach episode" cause most of it was babysitting the retarded cat. It wasn't "low stakes" since the main villains want either world domination or the destruction of all reflections. And it wasn't a mentor story because nobody ever corrected Wuk Lamat and every time a mistake was genuinely made by her, the story just went "well nobody could have seen this coming and nobody tried to address it so". Even the promise about "the scions are split" ended up just being for the first quarter of the game.

It's probably not false advertising from a legal standpoint, but it sure as hell feels like it was falsely advertised. That combined with the lacking midcore/casual content that's not coming till 7.2 at the earliest looks like it's probably done damage to the game's numbers. Raiders like me can just put up with it for the savages and ults. But if your main thing is playing for the story and the story sucked, then the game has probably lost all value for you.
