The propaganda in this war has been absolutely crazy, and what's crazier is that so many people actually buy it without any doubts or questions of validity. Going by what the media has been saying, Russia has been waging this war with Ukraine in a "Tom & Jerry" or "Coyote Vs Roadrunner" type of comical dynamic.

To add to what you're saying about how media portrays the frontline armies of this conflict, just look at how the "behind the scenes" players are portrayed. It might be even nuttier. Budanov is treated like this brilliant James Bond type mastermind, able to outmaneuver the Russians in every regard, yet all he's really managed to do is blow up civilians and police officers in highly botched/flawed assassination attempts. Oh, and he has also sent countless Ukrainian males into pointless suicide operations.

Where as the Russians, funnily enough, are all portrayed as Boris Badenovs. Highly incompetent, super obvious (Privet comrade, I am Steve from New York Oblast), and simply unable to outsmart the brilliance of Ukrainian Intelligence. Yet, they have proven time and time again to know the exact locations of high priority targets such as Zelensky himself, proving that if they wanted, he'd already be dead.

But the average moron gobbles this shit up in the West. Old people who turn on the news see this shit and think "Oh, it's just like Red Dawn! I need to donate to these brave soldiers!"
Meanwhile, the average Ukie soldier freezes in a half dug pit while Russians sit cozy in heavily fortified earthen bunkers, content to just let the war of attrition ride out.

It won't, the majority of ukro population is either scared shitless/demotivated or subjected to ukro brainrot/indoctrinated (majority of those who had a functioning brain and the means have either left or have been murdered by various groups of brownshirts/freikorps/right sectorites since 2014) - there is a trend on Russian youtube where they go and attempt to talk with random ukros on chatroulette and the majority of them seem to have an IQ of 80 with the only thing they can come up with is "how bad it is to live in Russia compared to Ukraine", "Peter The Great stole OG Rus from Kiev" and 'those stupid Z patriots' - the pervasive overarching trend is that they are happy to continue being used as a cum receptacle as long as Russia suffers (in their head). It didn't really change since some 200 years ago - typical backward village idiot mentality of someone completely incapable to modernize as their happiness depends solely on how badly their neighbour is doing. Was especially noticeable in the 90s when Ukraine was better off economically free of USSR burdens and debts as compared to Russian Federation. Hohols were having the best time of their lives.

Ironically I was a lurkfag on KF since 2017 and around that time I began rooting for the Donbass Republics yet never actually thought to check to see if there was a thread, and by the time I even found out the topic was being discussed the partition already happened.
I know pretty much nothing about what happened before I came here other than that there was a previous partition that for some reason got reversed and that supposedly when the threads were merged it was a never ending shit flinging contest.

Let's just say during the first month after Russian tanks crossed the border someone posted CP in the thread to own the Russia loving commie chuds. And because it was done to prove that all Russians are pedos/rapists it was fine (in the opinion of those who found nothing wrong with it) and it was not only acceptable, it was a good thing, and they made posts saying so, over and over again, calling anyone who disagreed a Russian baby rapist, crying to the mods anytime someone posted a screenshot of them doing so and demanded anyone who didn't agree be banned. Also everyone who said anything remotely nice about Russia, Russians or even Tolstoy/Pushkin/Gogol/Gorky was working for the FSB, Putin or looking for babies to rape.

Those posts are still there, afaik. It only got worse until the threads were split.

Having one thread was a shit show, at least now you can get some updates here. This thread gets derailed but you do get people posting updates and info and actually trying to discuss points. The huge disparity in posts and moreso view counts of the two threads shows even most neutral people and lurkers can see the other thread is full of low iq mongoloids posting retarded cope.

A question I've had on my mind is what was it like before the threads were seperated?

Unfortunately it was nearly untenable. I hate that it became necessary because my ideal thread is multiple points of view represented and people able to challenge and counter opposing view points. It's not like this thread has a monopoly on the truth and more to the point, it tends not to cover things that are negative to Russia. But whilst this thread might gloss over negative stuff to Russia it tends to be accurate to what it does say and not lie. A lot of the pro Ukie posters would continously spew out utter garbage and troll constantly. Some in particular made actual conversation near impossible because people wouldn't stop replying to them.

Don't get me wrong, there were a few very informative pro-Ukie posters and it was useful to get their point of view. And it also led to some excellent counter points by people like @Givi as well so you could learn from the back and forth. But about two-thirds of the pro-Ukie posters were absolute raving lunatics and pure trolls whose purpose was purely to prevent actual conversation and debate. If you want evidence of that you can look at how those same posters suddenly dropped sharply in their posting once the threads were split. At this time, the Russia thread is at around 35,000 posts because most of us here are still just posting the same stuff we did before. And the Ukie thread is about 15,000 posts behind because there's no point in posting something that reads like a hateful 8 year old if there's nobody to bait anymore. And that was a lot of the posters we got when the threads were combined.

I still dip into the other thread because they will share stuff that is unlikely to be raised in this thread. But sadly Null was right to cleave the threads in twain. You might also notice that of the two threads, the more neutral and less ideological posters on the topic have ended up in this thread out of the two they could go to. Because if you're not heavily pro-Ukie in the other thread you will get dogpiled. Whilst if you're a bit critical of Russia in this thread, you'll just get mildly cat-piled.
