Antonov company is actually from Novosibirsk, and was relocated to Kiev as a move to develop the Soviet Ukraine as an industrial powerhouse. A very terrible mistake in the long part as it proved. Most of the engineers where Russian even into the late 90's/early 2000's. And Antonov parts where made all over USSR to be assembled in Ukraine bar few exceptions.

Hell, even post Soviet Union.

Then of course there are the finances (90 procent came from Russia. Which pretty much what's been keeping Antonov's projects a float until 2014.

To be fair the whole "buran program" was thrown together to verify if the space shuttle program the US was butchering billions into was indeed a real threat.
So, the soviets thrown together a shuttle with no propulsion on its own, and strapped it on a soyuz to verify if it really poses a "space force" threat. Turned out, it was not more efficient than shooting rockets, so they scrapped the whole thing.

The conduct of the civilians on either side more or less decided how I felt about the war very quickly - despite my roots. The Ukes bay for blood, while the Russians are more somber about the whole thing. The Ukrainian soldiers show their faces, while the Russians disguise theirs - because they know the Ukrainians will enact reprisals on any relatives if they get a positive ID. That sort of thing is just unconscionable, even in the context of ethnogenesis.

That, and the fact that this whole conflict was always at odds with Ukraine's stated goals and the general desire of its people. They could've milked NATO for equipment endlessly if they'd just left the Don Basin alone. Instead they traded one master for another; they haven't been this yoked to a major power since the days of the Tsars.
