Several days ago, I was sitting in my classroom. It was a busy day with at least 15 kids in my in-school suspension program. I was exhausted and did not look forward to the union meeting I attended for three days in Chicago. The days off are welcome, but it's still work.

It was my planning time, and I was about to leave my classroom and take my daily jaunt around the building when the 6th-grade counselor entered my room. She looked distraught. I wondered what lovely young person cussed out the teacher on a bright Wednesday afternoon.

However, that wasn't why she wanted to talk to me. She said to me that the 6th graders in a teacher's class found the death of Emmett Till funny and that it didn't matter to them because he wasn't their family.

Now, here is a very young white woman concerned that black children are laughing at one of the most horribly racist murders in history. What's far more interesting is that she cares more than them.

She asked me if I could talk to them about why his death was monumental in American History.

Now you may ask yourself, was she asking me because I was black? Yes, of course she was. As black educators, we are often tasked with addressing black children in our schools. It can be stressful to be asked to "whisper" to African American children like they will listen to us any better than a white person.

We don't have hand signals or secret words that make a kid act better. Trust me, I get cussed out too. It's an invisible tax that Black educators pay because we are seen as the resource for all things black in the school.

I told her I would talk to them. I didn't have to, but the death of Till is no laughing matter. Seventy years is not that long ago.

The teachers were in the process of corraling that infamous 6th-grade energy when I walked in. Eager and wild young eyes looked at me.

"Mr. White wants to talk to you about Till and the impact of his death on the Civil Rights Movement."

I stood there thinking, what do I want to tell these babies? Do eleven and 12-year-olds need to know the brutality of Till? Do you need to understand how innocence was snatched by two vicious racists in 1955?

Till was a boy only a few years older than them.

I decided yes, they do. As states try to erase our ugly, bloody, and dehumanizing history and act like it doesn't need to be taught, I will as long as I can expose an America that was willing to kill children.

I told them the narrative of Emmett and how Roy Bryant and J.W Milam kidnapped him from his uncle's house, Mose Wright. They took him because he allegedly whistled at Bryant's wife. She was the clerk in the store that her husband Roy owned.

I explained how they beat him to near death before they shot him and threw him in the river with a fan tied to his feet.

The sixth graders didn't say anything as I talked about Mamie Till. She was a hero, I told them. A hero that belonged to you but also to America. She allowed her son's casket to remain open. I told them she wanted, in her words, for the world to see what had happened to her baby.

His death in 1955 sparked the Civil Rights Movement. When the rest of the United States saw racists were willing to kill a 14-year-old boy, white people began to take notice. At this time, a "King" was rising from the pulpit of Ebenezer Baptist Church and leading the charge. But no single event galvanized the nation like Till.

I thanked the kids for allowing me to speak and asked if they had questions. None did, but I didn't expect them to. I laid it down as plainly as I could that Till was important and that his death helped lead to the rights you have today. I hoped they understood at least a little bit.

Some of our politicians and school board members are against a well-rounded education. Hiding these stories from our nation's children, white, black, and all races, is a disservice to their education. Florida is a model for the removal of history from classrooms.

The "Stop Woke Act" purpose is to stifle how African American history is taught in schools. It's believed that teaching about the past will make white kids feel bad about themselves. The purpose of education is not to indoctrinate children or hurt them but to impart information and then allow the student to draw their own conclusions.

Alabama's diversity, equity, and inclusion programs are on the chopping block. Universities can still have them but cannot use tax dollars to support them. The DEI program aims to promote diversity among the student body and recruit diverse faculty and students.

Colleges benefit from a diverse staff and student body. I believe Alabama is stifling progress toward a more inclusive workplace by passing this act.

The law prevents the consideration of race in admissions to universities. However, the United States Supreme Court struck affirmative action down in 2023. I believe we will see fewer students of color in Alabama schools. I hope I am wrong.

We must teach the fullness of all American history, which includes human beings of different hues, cultures, sexual orientations, and religions. We cannot ignore the trauma of marginalized people. We must understand how these events shaped our country and how we can strive to be better.

Teachers are not in the business of causing emotional distress to children when teaching history. We want to develop critical-thinking adults who see history as the roadmap to a better outcome for future generations.

I am glad I spoke to the 6th graders, and if need be, I will do it again because it is a travesty of education if these kids don’t learn their history.

so the fact that the white lady memoir is secret until 2050 or something means that this black kid totally did some shit, right?
It was planned for a posthumous release in 2036 but it was leaked by a Civil Rights historian in 2022, a year before the woman died. This was around the same time people were storming a senior living apartment building looking for her. The memoir didn't receive much attention except from activists who hoped it would reveal she was guilty all along. It did not so they were pretty angry over the whole ordeal.

Here are excerpts from the main article on it:

wop wop
niggers lose again, as always

I actually lol'd when I read the headline :story:
I'm still laughing at that dead faggot healthcare CEO who got gunned down like a dog.
The CEO being murdered was, symbolically, very satisfying.

But only symbolically. The reality of the situation is a fungible cog was destroyed, and he will be replaced with another cog who does the same thing, because our healthcare system has been broken by government for decades. Getting government to stop enabling the breakage of the system is what's really needed.

It's like Occupy Wallstreet. An embarrassing number of people believed, and still believe, OWS was a very important movement because it struck directly at the source of the problem. But, of course, it didn't.

Business will always behave in the same predictable ways. The fact that everything is about profit is a feature, not a bug. Look at ESG/BRIDGE and tell me business is better when it's warped to be motivated by something other than profit.

Wallstreet was encouraged, subsidized, and indemnified by Congress to behave the way it behaved leading up to the 2008 collapse. None of the OWS protesters gave a shit, because they cared more about symbolism and feeling good about themselves than criticizing their favorite political figures of worship. Can't protest Black Jesus or that fat faggot Barney Frank, PBUH. That would be attacking their own, and it would be bigoted. Better express your childish envy over the existence of rich people instead.

Similarly, our awful healthcare system as it exists is because our lawmakers have made it this way. Healthcare used to be a lot cheaper before they started layering on laws and regulations and forcing insurance to cover everything.

Of course, it's understandable to be disgusted by the creatures who profit from such a system. But the system was created by our corrupt lawmakers, and all business is merely operating within thise systems. Business has to make a profit within these systems, or they go out of business. Our elected officials don't have to influence-peddle, obey lobbyists, or accept bribes. They chose to do it. And they fail upwards when they do it.

"Bad man killed. Maybe other bad men not be so bad anymore." Good luck with that childish shit.

The bigger issues relate back to institutional racism that gets worse with each passing generation.
What an amazing cope!

As actual, legit, codified, state-enforced racism has diminished, the white man's tricknology has created a situation where racist miasma has just grown worse every year.

You can't see it, you can't measure it, but it's there and it's the cause of all the black man's ills.

Nah, it did, the author of the article is just too autistic and dumb to realise it's normal for kids around that age to not take things seriously. The problem here is not the kids, but that the teacher doesn't know this. She could be complaining for how kids would rather play out than being in class as well, she obviously chose the wrong career here if she doesn't understand how young people operate.

Thing is, kids do care, and we can help them care, but the author is more focussed on the racial aspect of the story rather than asking if the kids react the same with other groups.
Getting kids to care is easy. It's called a paddling and teaching has become an unmanageable profession when it got removed.

Oh, Emmitt Till? He's suffering from the same issue Holocaust history has where its political leverage makes it sound fake because of the current group's popularity. If Jews/Blacks are popular, then it totally happened and can't be questioned. If they aren't, it's just propaganda and must be false so they can't use it to manipulate.

I've seen sixth graders laugh at 9/11 footage. It's not even a race thing, kIds genuinely don't give a shit.
i guess this is the difference in watching something live vs video of it years later. i was in sixth grade when it happened and we watched it live. i dont recall anyone in my middle school ever laughing about it. i also dont recall anyone laughing about the holocaust, or civil rights stuff either. not saying middle schoolers are saints, but my middle school seemed pretty well behaved to ya'lls. did you guys go to a big city school or something?

I need a slow clap for your eloquent ass on this one.

You get all of these middle class people who think that their morality is basically everything. They don't have the money and clout of the rich, or the nothing-to-lose bravado of the poor. So they have the hope of status (becoming rich) or fear of loss (becoming poor), and yet somehow, they firmly believe everyone else plays by the same rules they do, especially when they don't have to.

But what really do you expect of people who thought that during COVID, both the Government and Big Pharma, these behemoths, suddenly grew a heart three sizes bigger and were going to be magnanimous and shit?

Big Pharma will make a scene about how they remember one of their own, but you're right that they'll just replace him and keep doing what they've always been doing, except now, they'll offer greater security for their people. There will probably be new laws on the books for greater punishment against vigilantism.

Much like OWS, they'll have us fighting against each other in no time.

Simple-minded idiots don't understand how the chain of events works when you punch up. Luigi shooting a Nerf gun, while the rest of us are going to feel the effects of their cannons.

He was out of control. He almost certainly would have grown up to be a violent criminal and/or rapist just like his father.
Not many people know about his father's crimes and subsequent execution. Emmet Till sure as fuck knew. He knew his father was a serial killer and rapist and he sure as fuck didn't act like he was ashamed and didn't want the comparison. 100% aspiring sociopath, even if he wasn't provably as broken as his dad.

Indeed. All Luigi did was ensure they spend more of your premiums on extra bodyguards for themselves going forward, and that you get hassled at security checkpoints and have streets blocked by the cops more often whenever a CEO is in town, and have your social media censored more frequently when you start to express "dangerous" levels of anti-pharma sentiment.

Wow, way to change the system for the better, bud.

I went to a rural school, we watched Challenger blow up. And like 9/11? Everyone in the school was just shocked silent for that day..

But.

The very next day on the school bus?

"Hey, what's NASA stand for?"

"I unno"

"Need Another Seven Astronauts"

Kids get things are bad as they happen, but they shrug them off quick as they haven't yet developed the ability to realize decades-long negative repercussions that follow big events.

That's all it takes to be a hero in America?
Become a single mom because your wifebeater husband is executed for rape and murder during WWII.

Raise a son who doesn't give a shit about authority, so you take the genius brain move of sending your defiant, sex pest, black son to fucking Mississippi.

Turn your fuckup into a civil rights issue.

Truly heroic.

When I was in sixth grade, the shits in class would be really hard on substitute teachers, but even they didn't laugh at serious classroom topics. But my school was also like 95 percent white.

It's hilarious how people are anthropomorphizing damaged agricultural equipment -- erm The EmmettTill Model 2 Virginity Extractor/Separator (patent pending).

That said, I guarantee you in 50 years some dumb cunt is going to be writing the same about George Floyd. It's all so tiresome.

Nigger fragility is quite astonishing. Nigger fatigue happens to be quite strong with this particular farmer, however.

"What year was Jesus born?"
It's currently believed to be between about 6-4 BC.

My school was borderline rural and about 90% white. My class didn't laugh at the Holocaust, but it happened enough times in the past that this teacher had to stop showing whatever documentary she was wanting to put on. As for the Hitler stuff, he had a funny mustache.

If this story is true (and it's Alabama, so I don't doubt it, not because "fucking whitey", but because ignorance abounds) it's a damn shame. The murder of anyone is abhorrent; it is not a laughing matter.
In Alabama, we were taught that black people were slaves to pick cotton, they got bit by german shepherds by police, got hosed by the fire hydrants, that they were killed by white people because of racism, and that they were people that deserved rights during the Selma 60's thing.

What we grew up with was porch monkeys with ashy skin, too much cocobutter lotion, picks in the hair, a 40 year old grandmother with 6 grandkids, and hocking off the nintendo console whenever they needed money that week. Oh and that the kid who sat next to you would humiliate you cause you read books, steal any little thing they could from you, and any thing they borrowed from you was given back in almost broken condition if it was given back at all. Then you learned not to loan those blacks kids any thing you didnt need back. Birmingham was on tv daily with a new black person shot death and you just knew it was because of another black person.
