No, he means your lifestyle adapts to your means. meaning the wealthier you are the more you spend and in a sense you end up with the same net amount no matter what. It´s true in a populational scale, higher earnings leading to higher prices, etc.. Obviously not a linear relation and obviously not true in a personal sense: when you are not a lotto winner, like Nick somewhat is, you improve your means by having a good economical sense so, even if your living standards go up, you tend to have a higher net income anyway.
