The American medical system is actually very good at what it does most of the time, it gets lost in the costing though. Part of the reason it's so expensive is all the government meddling needed to keep the Spic-Nig Cycle going.

Long gun/self defense spergery and and an anecdotal story.
Not an attorney, I have small background in criminal defense and I have an extensive firearm knowledge. As far as applied I have know two people who willingly choose to kill other people with firearms. LE already knows all about this, both were sweated neither charged ultimately although both are convicted felons for other reasons.
Many years ago I almost killed someone who pulled a large kitchen knife on me and try to box me into a dark backyard at night in an empty property. I have no doubt 5 rounds center mass of .40S&W JHP and he'd bleed out and die within 5 mins almost guaranteed; you're in the same thread I am. Sometimes people just drop like a sack of potatoes with far less. My flashlight in his eyes stopped him in his tracks and now I had this "quiet panic moment". I do not panic, there's something wrong with me maybe it's the autism but, if I do panic you don't see it. Now I can't tell you if we stood there for 6 seconds or 60 but, it all flashed through my mind all at once. He's got a big fucking 12" stainless steel strait edge wooden handle tucked into the waistline his hand on it prepared to draw, making threatening statements trespassing and advancing but flashlight has him frozen in step and blinded. This is grey area, has the threat stopped or just been delayed? Do I shoot into the sky? the dirt? aim for a less likely to be fatal wound? Commit to just dumping rounds into him till he falls? How fast can I collect the casings in the grass in this backyard? What if I don't get them all? Did the neighbors have cameras? Did they get my vehicle tags? It all comes at me so fast.
At some point I realized he cannot see the muzzle is aimed directly at him due to the flashlight as I'm keeping a traditional support hand flashlight, dominant hand pistol, stance.
He doesn't even see a firearm, I swing the flashlight behind the rear sights about 1/2 second he processes what the silhouette partially blocking the flashlight was and runs for his life.
I didn't follow chase, I don't think I had a chance to catch him, way to fast for me. I will say I just wanted the GTFO out of that shithole and this is the hardest part of the story to believe but, I swear to Christ I'm just trying to leave this god forsaken neighborhood in my vehicle and who do I see standing on the corner. I'll leave it vague but, put the fear of God into that useless nigger, made him run for his life twice that night.
I promise you It's never perfectly cut and dry even when the geography and local politics are in your favor. You ever kill someone in self defense you ask for an attorney or fake some kind of stress induced medical emergency, panic attack, heart attack, to force the to call EMS and give that priority. Miranda or not you don't say shit, if it all went down clean as possible. Have a plan. That night I did not and ended OK but, who knows if one minor detail changed. I had a short conversation with an actual attorney who specialized in firearm charges. In his opinion you call 911 tell them there's been a shooting at the address send EMS and police and hang up, no details. All that shit is recorded and court admissible with rare exception. You can in theory claim you made no attempt to hide the shooting took place or flee but, make no statements of any incriminating nature.
