Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Fuck regular fate I want Fate/Extra to release already.
Outside of that, recently watched the Mononoke movie. The one with the exorcist, not the one with the giant wolves. VERY GOOD, highly recommend. Can't wait for the next film 'cause apparently it's a part of a trilogy.

Also, Mysterious Girlfriend X's browser history has attracted the alphabet boys.

Ameku Takao no Suiri Karte first two episodes are pretty good. Basically less gay House with the Sherlock analogue being a cute female doctor and the Watson being a usual doctor who knows kung fu. Hopefully it doesn't devolve too much into relationship drama since the heroine is pretty fun being her autistic self. First case was alright, though it became more of a detective than a medical drama. I like they keep to the Sherlock material by having a tard wrangler sister.

Fate Strange Fake I have different feelings on. Interesting setup, but the amount of Type Moon autism there is off the chart and I wonder if some plot elements would be entirely reliant on playing some side game or reading a novel. Like the whole El Melloi shit I wouldn't understand if I haven't saw the anime (keep telling myself to watch what happened after the train episode). Not a fan of putting pre existing characters as masters since likely they'll have insane plot armor.

can't you be satisfied with last en.... Yeah, I can't finish that sentence.

We will never get Shirou "Fuck Them Kids, Master" EMIYA Nameless, Psycho Marital Rapist Fox Wife, or Not-A-Jobber AUO in any decent anime.

I already have the psycho marital rapist fox wife and I'm not sharing.
(I do need more foxgirl animes that aren't pedobait)
((I didn't hate Last Encore, but I didn't like it))

Anyway, I was looking forward to the remake of EXTRA but apparently they decided to ditch the shitbox as a release platform.

just try to keep her from plunging any more kingdoms into chaos

When is it getting released anyway?

I can only hope they can add to the story without taking away that atmosphere of otherworldliness and confusion. Especially after you've won the Holy Grail War and the entire school is absolutely barren.
Wonder if they'll keep the Arcueid and Ryougi cameos too.

Too late, I'm already having her influence the US political machine.

Supposedly it's releasing in 2025 sometime. Here's hoping they stick to it at least.

Yesterday I did read most of the FGO Salem manga, Nezha is really funny and cute in this manga. In the game she is kinda stiff. This is something that the manga adaptations absolutely improves the game structure.

Turas Realta is an excelent adaptation too of FGO.

I guess the only shit adaptations of Fate stories in manga format is the EXTRA ones. Since the art is lackluster (not counting fox tail since that is actually quite good)

So apparently there was a rumor going around that Nana was going to resume serialization, but there's no proof that's happening. But I started thinking, the more I watch the anime, the more I realize that this series just fits so well into the 2000s zeitgeist that I don't think it can fully work outside of the decade, and not because that's its setting. This would also suggest that, should happenstance make it so the series continues and actually ends proper, if it were to get a Brotherhood treatment that it would just not hit the same, especially if they were to *shudders* modernize it. The punk scene is not the same scene as it was back then, and the singers they got were just perfect, and there's no guarantee they could bring them back and continue to bring to IRL Trapnest and Blast; Anna, maybe, but not sure about Olivia.

On top of that, although I doubt they'd remove all the sex since that's crucial to the characters' relations and the drama surrounding it, they're likely to just cut out the smoking even though it's also important thematically because that's what they ended up doing for Fruits Basket despite not modernizing the setting and that Shigure is an adult so let him smoke if he wants to. Seems nowadays, they want to just cut out all instances of smoking in anime so as to not further "pervert" young impressionable minds, I guess, because only delinquents do that and that's bad. Also Shin's "profession" might also just not exist or even be alluded to in it, so they would have to change him up to be more "broadcast friendly".

I dunno, just a thought that anime truly had it good in the 2000s and that some series just got lucky to be produced when they did. Maybe it's for the best Nana doesn't continue so it can remain a time capsule.

I'd say it was probably "bad" timing for the new Fruits Basket anime adaptation (2019) due to Japan getting stricter with smoking ban for indoor (2018 ).
Call of the night anime (2022)

Last season, Yakuza fiance

Kowloon generic romance anime adaptation, seems like keeping female protag, Reiko, her smoking habit. From interview to mangaka herself

Although, upcoming Ginpachi-sensei, it seems they cutting down his smoking from trailer.

Manga wise, smoking isn't an issue. I mean "Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You" won a manga award in 2022. Seinen, so fine it doesn't count.
There is Gokurkugai featuring Tao literally smoking in cover page and first page of first volume.

It will be interesting to see where the show goes and its staying power. You really cannot beat the first episode where the smol, cute, autistic, doctor waifu declares a murder victim was killed by a T-Rex.
Not really but its a great hook to get people interested in the show

Worst case scenario for this show is the autistic doctor becomes an /a/ flavor of the month waifu while the best case scenario is it has the staying power of the Apothecary Diaries.

What I find interesting is that this didn't get turned into a live action adaptation since the premise is exactly all those network medical dramas like House or the Good Doctor in the US. Just get a few hospital sets, a set for the MCs slob hovel, and cast a few idol singers as the leads. I'm sure Japanese TV is filled with doctor shows just like the US so its cool they made it an anime instead of a live action show.

Shigure could've just been portrayed with a smoke outside on the porch, but that never happened. God forbid an anime adapration doesn't get modernized so as to avoid portraying indoor smoking.

It's stupid to complain about, I just can't help noticing since everything has to be modernized.

I saw there was a Grisaia Phantom Trigger anime and people in the comments said to watch the OVA beforehand and it's really fucking bland, making me wonder if to even watch the show. Did anyone play the VN to say if it's good? Looks like too much of the writer being a gun otaku and none of the funny jokes and moments of the original VN.

Long overdue question, but why do so many nu-animu protagonists look like kids' anime characters? I don't have a problem with that style for actual kid characters and kids' shows, but it's so infantilizing and anti-cool otherwise. And second, why does so much nu-animu look like amateur Youtube animator work in that you can obviously tell it was done in MS Paint and is very lacking in soul and artistry? The latter point isn't present in all nu-animu, but when it is, it irritates me to no end.

I didn't even know this was getting an anime. I'm legit excited for this.

Stop watching anime made for little kids and it'll stop being a problem.

Not just anime for kids. Almost every single isekai looks like that (even though I don't watch isekai), so why?

Compare this to actual kids' anime: Shinkalion CW has better character designs, and nuWataru looks stylized and fun:

And finally and most egregiously, why does Duke Fleed look so wimpy in 2024?
