"Doxing" in 2025

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Revelation is nice, but I think it would upset the non religious types; 411 works.
411 sucks.
Also, I'm not sure, but the "dox" in "doxing" may have been derived from "docs", so maybe we should just start "documenting" now?
Might be better to frame this as switching to a more "professional" and "adult" spelling rather than enforcing newspeak.
I got his dox -> I got his documents. Fine I guess. Kind of ruins the culture though.

Even tough getting "phonebook'd" sounds kinda dated it does cover the core action. A phonebooking post is nothing more then a collection of publicly available records and sometimes that can include a lot.

There is a larger discussion to be had about what kind of information should and shouldn't be public, i.e. I find it appalling that essentially 99% of US citizens are automatically added to publicly available people search tools essentially phonebooking them by default. But that would be a discussion for another time.

I agree people should use more restraint on it, collecting info purely to prove you can is kind of cringe, and sets an adverserial tone when the goal should be mirth. I only post things I find if they're funny, or add to the narrative of the cow in some significant way, there's no real reason to post what specific house they live in or whatever unless it's amusing they live in a shithole while bragging about living in a mansion like when Dick had an Opsec Accident. I think that should be left up to users though.
Exactly, knowing that Ralphamale's mexican palace is a your average taco favela is funny and pertinent to the enigma that is Ralph, but knowing some deathfat's precise coordinates adds nothing to watching them speedrun bariatric coffin%. IMO it makes it feel even seedier than it already is.

I like the term phonebooking and phonebook, because it underscores the banality and legality of it. If it is in the phonebook, how can it be controversial?

My legitimate case for Opsec Accident
1.it implicitly puts the onus on the Cow for fucking up, rather than on the evil poster for finding their fuck up
2.funny inside joke about that rapist guy
3.It would be amusing to start a post with something like "Uh-oh, looks like ___ had a little opsec accident!"

I don't have any problems with banning doxing on the site entirely. It would help keep the site on the Clearnet, and I've never felt that having someones address and phone number at the top of the thread made anything much funnier.
I think our culture needs to become less hostile in general towards the topics of discussion, and most of them really don't need a phonebook listing. If the phonebook info is amusing (eg: it's funny that nick rekieta is getting foreclosed on) it should be posted, but otherwise I think it should be refrained from. That said, I don't know how that could be enforced fairly, and it should probably be a culture thing, not a mod thing.

Opsec Accident is one of the few only replacement I will tolerate.

Does anyone remember when Null used word filters? Reintroducing it to filter dox and conjugations of dox. Introducing [redacted] meme into word filter to doxx and other variations.

I know how much you hate pings @Null I still remember when you word filtered word retard to "exceptional individual" for a brief time in early 2020, consider using the word filter if users agree on it, set up a poll if you want. Rolling back word filter would be smart to avoid legal repercussions.

Thats a bullshit argument.

He has to moderate the site within the confines of american law. He is politely asking people to change their behavior because of potential legal issues.

Lets say, we had a slang word for photobombing somebody but we just called it, "Bombing"

Obviously if you said, "I am gonna bomb everyone at comic con", but you just meant photo bombing. That could still put you in the feds spotlight, because making a bomb threat is illegal, and a perceived bomb threat would still warrant an investigation.

Null doesn't fucking care if you use the word "dox". The police do. That is what this post is about retard. Did you even read it?
