'Dox' is used twice in the current vocabulary, but contrast "I'm going to dox this guy" and "Here is this guy's dox." The first is an action, the one that would newly be farm, the other is the actual documents, what would newly be dossier.

But in all seriousness I don't agree with that reasoning. Privacy is not a right, it's a privilege. And honestly I am fine if people want to use it as an excuse to talk about privacy in the public discourse. Also, I have never heard this argument against the term demask from anyone outside of the forums. It's too nitpicking imo.

Phonebooking - It's a nice little euphemism that's easy to understand when you understand the context, but without it, sounds weird. Null's even mentioned a phone book several times per what the site does and explain why doxing in the USA is easier than elsewhere.

Journalism - Just doing my civic duty (get fucked journos).

Exposing - Feels like a more literal and less playful/euphemistic way of saying doxing. Could be used in a courtroom as a more professional word for doxing.

Unmasking - Willing to give this one a shot, only because LFJ and I imagine other progressives will start using it since they can't use scary words.

Everything else just feels, weird or different, not wrong, just another slang, and not one I'd use.

We're talking about the term "dox" in this thread, and as I said in the rest of the sentence you cut off, I don't like the idea of a word filter because as Null discusses in his original post, there are two meanings for the term that both come up on the site. I don't think when we discuss lolcows actually doxxing someone, spreading someone's legitimately private info, it should be corrected to a different term that just means "posting public information." The entire issue is the word has come to mean two different things, calling both the same new word doesn't really solve the problem.

And then he decides that since you know what his kids look like, you should also know that their names are Tristan Pratt & Kairi Pratt, and that he was attending Puxsutawney Area High School in 2016 while she was in West End Elementary, and that they should be both ages 22 and 19 now based on the ages in the article and the publication date.


This isn't "doxing, phonebooking" they clearly wanted you know all about their family, the quote is even "we also have a couple youtube channels with our kids," they want your eyes on this info! Otherwise, why would they volunteer it to someone looking for the absolute best deals on full color laser copies from Kendall's Kreations? In Thom & Kambria's own words, "This is the family business - comic conventions, Disney, Shadowbinders, YouTube, basically we make our living online! And we do this all from Puxsutawney, Pennsylvania!" I would never dox unmask them. I have never engaged in doxing unmasking ClownfishTV. This is just social media and approved advertising from 2021!
