I was a huge Vic Mignogna fan from 2011-2014, when I was 11-14. I saw him in cons at least four times, including my small local convention. I had three of his autographs displayed in my childhood bedroom, have a bunch of photos taken hugging him in like my tween girl weeb cosplay, burned his songs onto CDs, and at one point I drew the cover of the annual Risembool Rangers birthday card sent to him.

I was 100% isolated from internet gossip and social media until I was an adult, just because I didn't care, so I never heard about any controversy with him until 2019. At that point I wasn't really into anime anymore, so I never looked into it.

I know the controversy with him is like a Foundational Movement in internet gossip spheres, and I constantly see allusions to it, but I just don't feel like looking into it. I haven't like thought of him since 2014, I just kind of don't want to know what happened. He was my tween-weeb-self's Nick Jonas, and it's weird to know he's some kind of internet pariah.

Am I ethically obligated to read the annals and come to some kind of internal judgement about what happened? It seems kind of moot. I spoke with him a bunch of times at smaller cons and he was really nice to my friends and I, I don't really feel like spoiling the memories with some weird internet shitshow.

And apparently he's related to Nick Rekieta in some way...? It's all so weird

Quick rundown: Allegations were that Vic touched fans and fellow talent inappropriately. He lost voice jobs and convention appearances over this as the allegations were signal boosted by a dedicated campaign on twitter. Nick Rekieta stepped up and recommended Vic see a lawyer friend of his, one Ty Beard, to sue for defamation (while also opening a gofundme to pay Ty Beard for the suit). Lawsuit failed on SLAPP grounds (Judge rules Vic is a public figure and the allegations in question do not rise to the level of defamation) leaving Vic on the hook for both his and his opponents' legal fees. Beard and Rekieta promptly disappear and stop answering questions about the gofundme money that was supposed to be for legal fees. No allegations have been definitively proven or disproven in a court of law, you may come to your own conclusions based on your experience with the man.

Probably not. If you feel you might have made a mistake and missed important things and ended up supporting a monster, I don't think you should. This wasn't that type of scenario.

Look, I was also a huge weeb in highschool, so here's a quicky summary: While I wasn't exactly a "huge fan" of Vic's specifically, Fullmetal was an Adult Swim staple and when Brotherhood came out and was so good everyone had lots of goodwill for him. But even back then, I remember there was a small but consistent group on LiveJournal who insisted he could be touchy and weird with female fans. This was like 2007-2012. But Vic went through a lengthy legal process and what they found was, well, not nothing, but also not some grand cover-up of him using his clout for fucking or abusing dumb young weeaboo women either. Even the dumb mistakes he did make were few and far between with adult women that he put no pressure on. Make no mistake, Armz and Soy Boy didn't initiate their crusade because of anything Vic was doing, they did it because they were butthurt swj who wanted to cancel the straight white Christian male.

It all started with a literally brain-damaged fujoshi, who mixed him up with someone else when flinging around accusations of bad touching.

Vic apparently has terrible luck when it comes to choosing friends and associates, which is why everyone around him always turns out to be some sort of weird deviant sex freak or otherwise fucked in the head.

No, I'll excuse the nonsense you wrote before this part because being young and being retarded are the same thing but the former you will grow out of like we all mostly do. If people want to be weird about something that's on them. Your view is your own and you don't need to defend innocently liking something.

I'd suggest this person moves on and gets a life if they don't have one.

this reads like "well the child molester didn't molest me so why should I care"
Unironically this, there's probably millions of child molesters out there in the world, I don't have the time to be caring about the ones who didn't molest me or anyone I know. Who does, tbh?

Vic learned the hard way not to engage with crazy people:
1. Don't engage with anime fans, especially women, that will blame you for rape on being hugged.
2. Don't work in the entertainment business where you'll be thrown under the bus for your politics.
3. Don't trust internet famous retards who will leave you once they fuck up and just ignore it.

If they are still infatuated, absolutely. My only point is they don't need to retcon their childhood enjoyment of something.
Yeah I grew out of this stuff at like 15, I only started thinking about it when I came to the farms and saw a billion things about him and Rekieta. I don't even like internet drama or lolcows, I just read stinkditch, so I'm just kind of sussing out whether it's worth it or necessary to learn about what happened with him. But ah, I got the gist from people's responses and it seems like the answer is no lol

the short of it is this vic was the victim of the peak of the me too grift. the sjw infestation of the American anime industry abhorred the fact a white male who was a very open Christian was in popular anime and had a following.

vic's only crime was getting suckered into the legal hype train that nick rekieta and ty beard made a lot of money off of before completely derailing it, leaving vic out to dry.

I actually rent a place to one of the department heads of a pretty big anime convention in the midwest, she confirmed that vic was always a great guest, but without fail, every year some of their danger haired low level volunteers would throw fits about him like he couldn't make it across a hallway without raping 5 or 6 girls and sexually assaulting a dozen more.

That's everyone's experience except liars with obvious agendas who have zero proof for their wild claims, and they just so happen to conveniently all be liberals.

Vic did nothing wrong with fans, it's all bullshit, so don't worry about it.

It doesn't read like that even a little bit, because presumably in that case the guy is proven guilty, and of course, that's a much worse accusation.

He's still a creepy sex pest though.
Proof?
