Diseased Open Source Software Community - it's about ethics in Code of Conducts

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
By the way, the solution to tech trannies is to just use suckless software.
Also @just Reading a post is suspiciously fixated on hating Ukraine...
I just used it as an example. Because the node.js guy spazed out in a politcal sperg and used a supply chain attack on Russians using it. Either side to me is not worth defending or supporting. Just slavs being retarded slavs as usual.

Because "muh russia" is the only reason FOSS software EVAR gets political, amirite?

I'm not trying to be a dick, but you might want to worry about all the bad shit your own country does, and they all DO. You think the USA is 100% pure and good? The UK? France? Israel? China? I may have a bridge to sell you, if so...

Do you think the Russians think that they are "evil?" Your perspective isn't the only one out there, shoving it down the throat of someone looking for a FOSS project is just going to cause more political divisiveness, in a place that it should not be.

I don't think the Russians are that great myself, but I have enough theory of mind, and not enough chutzpah, to think I should shove my judgement into my work. I do contracting. Should I start putting Ukraine Good, Russia Bad on every 2x4 with a sharpie?

I know it might sound odd, but Don Ho really mellowed the fuck out with his activism. Nowadays, if he dedicates an update to some cause, he will sperg about it on his site, but the only sign of it you will find in the program itself is if you go out of your way to open the About window. Even better, the Elon Musk update wasn't even branded that way, it was only on his page. The only way you'd get exposed to it is if you still haven't learned about winget being a thing.
I really don't have a problem with this kind of thing. I think it's because I view long running projects like N++ to be primarily an extension of their creator and you're kind of relying on the personality of the lead programmer as a layer of quality control. It doesn't matter if you agree with the personality, it just needs to be strong enough to resist trend chasing (in the software at least) and not so strong that some political whimsy inspires a supply chain attack. Ho can name updates however he wants, the code is his, the code works well and, rate me optimistic but, he and his project have a well cemented identity which won't be warped by passing fads in software development.
I would rather stop using freetard projects than wasting my time while trying to remove those "malicious features".
Because proprietary programs would never add malicious features or loudly broadcast how much they love tranny dick. I agree it's a waste of time to root these kinds of things out of a codebase and you're better off with alternatives, but don't pretend enshitification is somehow unique to FOSS.

The way i truly see it is that FOSS/Linux/other free software has enough trouble keeping state actors at bay. Who try to use FOSS and other projects to their glowie level wars against each state. What we don't need is some politically assblasted nerd deciding to run malicious code in the grand delusion he is furthering some asshole cause and will be a war hero with his name in a history book for it.
Because it seems to ass blast @Eternal Spirit of Light And i find his chimping about it funny, I will use the node.js guy as an example again.
His supply chain attack DID FUCKING NOTHING to harm the State of Russia, or change the war against Ukraine in Ukraine's favour. What it did do was cause unrelated party's harm. People who have 0 input to the decisions made by Putin or his government. He also discredited himself and he loses the trust of the community. I would not trust the snake to make me a coffee now, never know if he put cyanide in it. Was it worth it? I do not think so.
It is no different than terrorism.
Harm unrelated peoples to get at someone else.

And he was universally condemned for it, saw all his projects quickly forked, and pretty much blew his career to shit as a result. It happened twice and then never again because of the immediate response in both cases. People really don't like having their supply chain fucked with.

There's an absolute qualitative difference between "I'll make my NPM package nuke your machine if you're russian" and "I'll put a spergy message in the update dialogue".

If you give an inch, they take a mile.
Today it is
"I'll put a spergy message in the update dialogue".
Next it is when nobody cares about his delusions of grandeur and political message.
"I will introduce a payload that rm's your home directory , if your IP is in my shitlist zone because you disagreed with my holy war message from god"
You cut the bullshit early. Else it will fester in to a big problem. Escalation is the problem, and with how emotional and spergy software trannys and other people have become. Stamping down on this sort of thing should be a priority.
He is fine to have his beliefs. If he wants to express them. make a fucking debate politics youtube channel and talk to desTiny, Vaush, Tim Pool and the rest.
Don't fuck with my computer or the computers of others because you are a political spastic, who's professionalism is compromised by emotional fits of anger.

This forum has the guy who came up with the +nigger license addition. Someone uses a program to say TND, and people cheer; someone uses his program to say orange man bad and related ideas, and apparently this is unacceptable.

I forgot to mention Bram Moolenaar using Vim to advocate for charity. No one really complains about that. It's just a message, and it can be removed.

Make a YouTube channel to argue with faggots and be beholden to Google.

Let's be frank, there's no professionalism in the computer industry. All of this is a pathetic shitshow. Also, it's whose.

There are multiple interlocking solutions to this problem: Make software so small that any message has to be relegated to documentation, and perhaps actually pay people who volunteer their time to write this kind of software.

If you give an inch, they take a mile.
This is not broadly true in the context that you're arguing.

Most normal, gainfully employed developers can maintain reasonable standards of professionalism and can distinguish between minor (words only) political expression and harmful politically-motivated sabotage.

This is not a serious problem in practice.

"Hating vodka niggers isn't wrong and if the SJW uwu furfag trannies want to put anti-russki malware into their code, they shou-ACK" (Wrong opinion BTW, KYS legit no cap do a flip head first in minecraft)
"Hating vodka niggers is bad and I love sucking big black vodka dicks AAAAH OOOOH MY CLITTY IS LEAKING"

Can we go back to talking about retards now? Like who cares about who is right in this situation? (Hint: It's not the retards who said putting payloads into commonly used software was a good thing)

The FOSS model only allows for reactive damage control. Not preventative.
The FOSS model allows for preventative damage control - in theory. In practice it doesnt work because there always is some project which is ran by one person without supervision. That's how the messages get placed into Notepad++ (because it's one persons pet project) and thats how the xz backdoor was installed (because it was maintained by one person).
The first case could be prevented if the maintainer was not pozzed. The second is caused by everyone being lazy. Can you imagine software companies just downloading code and integrating it into their product without auditing? Because thats exactly what's happening.

A joke to piss of trannys in to sperging out and what the node.js guy did is not really comparable is it. Nobody is seriously going to use the +nigger licence in a professional product to be realised to the public.
I forgot to mention Bram Moolenaar using Vim to advocate for charity. No one really complains about that. It's just a message, and it can be removed.

This is the reason why i said what i said. Because now all you are doing is just autisticly weighting out what level of message is acceptable. The levels of discourse around putting a charity link and advocating a political take to the point of supply chain attacks and other gay ops is a disingenuous argument. It is the only one you have left. And i do find it depressing you used it.
I will take another example, from the tranny's.
I remember when the Nintendo Switch hacks finally leaked.
"This code is political if you use it, you agree tranny's are real women and stand with us" and other such bullshit. Was in their code and they were planning on maintaining a grudge list of people who they would sabotage. I was there in /emugen/ and /hbg/ when it all went down.
If it was not for one anon who infiltrated the discord and leaked all their shit. No Switch piracy would have been possible as it is now.
They would have had complete control over the entire scene. Who got to hack their Switch, would be under their thumb. Naturally they all had "open source" "FOSS" and all other branding all over it. But it was clearly open source in name only and was a Kool Kids Klub badge.
There is also a reason say Luis Rossmann nuked GrapheneOS off his phones. After having a spat with a crazy spastic FOSS fag. A schizo grudge sperg who has ring 0 access to your phone. Not something you leave yourself open too.
This is not a serious problem in practice.
What was node.js then?
In times such as this where the world has gone batshit over politics and you have people gunning down CEOs and other extremist behaviour. You should never take the chance. You don't even have to be the intended target.
I prefer my glibc package not be a vector to use my computer to DDOS Russian IPs in a botnet attacks. On behalf of some sperg in the githubs political hero try outs.

they gotta release the +nigga license. the hard r is a lil too much
