A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

This is my hope too, thanks for this and to @Otterly for additional context.

Yes, it looks like these stories link back to the same story that originated from the overheard 'joke' put forward by the prosecution. I can't find anything further, but for something like this we may never know what took place. It isn't a stretch, given how derogatory the language used by the abusers was for these poor girls.

I just hope that justice is eventually delivered. Cold cases have started to be solved again as forensic genealogy and other methods advance with technology.

It's a "How do you do, fellow kids!" moment. Those AI slop videos are all the rage on Tiktok, usually depicting [X] (such as countries) as animals. They're trying to follow in Farage's and Ed Davey's footsteps without understanding what really made the former more "genuine." (Hint: It was by allowing said kids to pay him to say whatever dumb shit they wanted.)

When they use language like this, it looks like they're pivoting away from hating on Muslims and hating on the primary victims of their presence. A Brit reading this will become more incensed at the author than the issue being raised, which shouldn't be the purpose of the article.

See I am a bit weird, racist and Christian but Africans don't even tip my meter along with Jamicians or Carribeans. My partner calls me out on it as I am very selective of the Arabs I talk to I will always be polite but I am selective. Older generation Indians don't really tip my meter either and my church has a few Africans and they are honestly lovely same with work. Now is that Racist or Tribalist because with Tribalism because the basis is that you are more selective of who you communicate with and honestly I think a lot of people in Britain are too. Racism honestly feels like a globo homo buzz word for branding people, they did it with cancel culture but that evaporated as soon as eyes turned on leftists for being bad also.

As for Starmer he did the same in August and he has not learnt again and I think he is legitimately stupid. Labour have already lost a ton of seats due to local elections and them trying to cancel these locals is to try and stop Reform and Tories but I don't think it will go through because all eyes are on him now. The problem is too they are leader less and Global pressures from the US and Europe will ultimately force them to call another General because you just cannot go from Starmer to Angela fucking Raynor who has no political experience and Cooper who is peacocking currently but will be rejected. Whilst I respect the opinions of people who think they are lasting 5 years I just cannot see it, this government has done more scandel than the Tories in 14 years in 6 months. They are trying to hide a child of a known terrorist who had anthrax and is calling people racist for demanding an enquiry for the systematic thousands of rapings on a threw thousand children. That leader is also very much linked to previous pedos too. I can see what will happen to Starmer as what happened to Boris his cabinet over the next few days will leave because siding with this is actual suicide politically but publicly. I think Cooper or Reeves will be the first to go because even not due to local losses he is actually in no confidence range because he lost any cushion that could protect him.

I think it is all going to blow on on the 21st Trump inauguration day but also the Southgate trial day. I think this year there is going to be a lot of unrest in the UK because something just does not feel right at the moment.
