Bigot Brigade Something Awful and Friends - The roller-coaster train-wreck embarrassing downfall of a Web 1.0 giant and its tick offspring like from Cloverfield

They're just flat-out lying to the users now, jeez.

(Remember, her "important rant" about D&D moderation was changed to read an "impotent rage" about moderation instead).

Probably really fucking autistic of me but question for people who were dumb enough to pay $10 to be repeatedly fucked over, after handing over your payment info and getting the account is there any legally binding terms of service you have to agree to? Like, you literally have to hit a check box or whatever to signify that you agree to the terms of usage of the site before payment is actually processed?

If not, then the "No Refunds Evar!" policy is just an attempt cover his ass, but might not actually hold up in small claims court, ESPECIALLY since policies change often and users are in no way notified of such changes. Thus, a breach in contract.

I'm not an expert, and won't part with $10 of my tardbux to find out. But that said, if each individual mod has their own special secret policies that actually contradict what is the "official" Terms of Service, and applies them selectively without properly notifying the entire forum that these policies exist, I'd say there may be grounds for a legit class action lawsuit due simply to breach in contract somehow, somewhere.

Not that anyone's going to bother, but over the last few days watching this thread, and combing over every scrap of rules and policies I can find, it's actually kinda bugged me a bit. I'd say if someone wanted to really rip Lowtax and the mods a new asshole, this might be a good avenue to do it.

Also, if there is such a TOS agreement, but it canot be accessed until AFTER payment is processed, then there might be something to THAT as well, as you are being forced to agree to terms you were not aware of prior to payment, and that in and of itself is a shady as fuck business practice (IIRC it deals with fraud by deception, but again, not an expert.)

There's no real TOS checkbox or anything, but there's a thing saying to read the rules first, and the rules are so broad and vague that they encompass you getting banned for basically anything. It'd be hard to claim in court that you weren't adequately warned about throwing your money in the toilet.

Yeah. I figured that. I don't really care either way, but figured giving someone a headache might be fun. Fuck knows people dumb enough to pay for something they could have been doing for free (even back in 2006) deserve to be taken for an exceptional ride.

Trouble is that people at SA won't accept that someone can disagree with the moderation without being a literal nazi.

Like, I'm politically on the left, waaay further left than these hill-dawg cocksuckers. That's not to virtue-signal, but to say that broadly I'm aligned with a lot of the whiners on SA. But I also enjoy free speech and saying jokes, and I hate those people for how everything is viewed now. SJW types have got it to the point where you can't even have a villain in a fucking novel say bad things without the author obviously being a wrongthink race-hater.

I liked the internet when it was a chill space that was separate to real life. And it's really fun to see the leviathan of Old Internet rise up from the briny deeps to drag a trawler of troons back down below.

Good post. I will remember you fondly when you are transported to a local Pence Camp.

It's really sad that Lowtax has apparently decided to let his userbase be sacrificed to protect shitty mods and admins. I'm legitimately slightly bummed, after having been there so long. I'd have much rather seen the forums flame out in some sort of spectacular drama in an attempt to right itself back to its glory days than resign itself again to the slow death the cancer of the unfunny faggot permanent outrage social justice brigade guarantees.

Ah well. Let it be remembered by the legacy it left, not the shambling corpse it will continue to become.

Yeah, in that D&D thread people called out Snowsa Parks for probating a guy for a week for this exchange

"Promise to be nice to posters in this thread or else"
"...No"

People were asking where in the rules that was fair and you got a vague "If the moderators ask you to do something do it" response from the official rules. Which was originally written two decades ago as kind of a general rule to supplement moderatorship with verbal warnings and not give moderators a permanent ability to just go "Hey XxXGokuXxX say _________ or else"

at least there is no where to complain about this since every thread critical of moderation, including that one, has been deleted.

I feel the same way; can't lie, I'm autistic enough to remember the halcyon internet days of yore. I left Something Awful ages ago, though, after I read through Devious Vacuum's ridiculously insipid Girl Games thread. So cringey...

I'm a huge whiny SJW irl, that's why I don't want to hang out on a forum where you're black if you fail the one drop rule and you're a liberal if you believe in censorship and overthrowing democracy.

I see somebody who needs to read the Samuel Collingwood Smith/Vordrak thread!

Yes thank you I will search this out. Any other especially funny things please tell me about until FAU comes here to show me what real jokes are! Also maybe to save more goons from gulag or whatever.

Absolutely this. I loved SA the way it was, and I was seriously hoping Lowtax would take it back. I find it disappointing that the SA forums looks at this place and starts clutching pearls about the hurt feelings of people on the internet when 10 years ago everyone would have been saying "poz my neg ass" over a dozen pages. I have to see SJW anxiety, trigger warnings and other whiny bullshit on my facebook feed. I don't need to see it on a goddamn web forum supposedly devoted to comedy.

I see two things happening: Either lowtax grows a spine and kicks out the badmins and we get a little reprieve before more tumblerinas take their place, or the forums die a long, gay death with BBG shitposting on every damn thread at the behest of the badmins, happily sucking their dicks along the way. Either way I'll be here perusing the fun you guys have had.

The Greta/Trans Life Line thread is also a great read. It's about how this suicide prevention hotline meant specifically for trans people is actually a huge scam to line the owner's pockets and get asspats all at the same time. It gets the Farms a lot of shit.
