Pitching a show with an asexual lead.
This totally happened, lol. He just happened to be there when they were doing a DEI indoctrination, and then pitch (he's so Hollywood babes) his project to grown-ass presumably educated adults in the 21st century who had never heard the word asexual. They were blown away by Olly teaching them that non-fuck losers existed!
He's such a lame fantasist. And his idea for an asexual lead character sounds boring as fuck, stupid, pointless, no one cares whether anyone has sex or not. I personally hate loudly self-declared "aces" because they're just straight up appropriating decades the actual discrimination, prejudice that the gay people faced and overcame. Fuck them.

Yep, same thing with HAAS women and troons themselves. A certain type of person is desperate to appropriate others' oppression to prevent criticism of their poor life choices.

That's apart from the fact that this particular usage of the term 'asexual' is wrong and biologically illiterate. There is no such thing as an asexual person, or even an asexual mammal. If you are a human being then you are by definition sexual. Simply not wanting to have sex does not make you asexual, it just means you don't want to have sex.

It's also typical of him to think the 'cis' people he was pitching to didn't want to throw money at him because they were out of touch and backward and 'just didn't get' his ideas, rather than simply finding his ideas to be boring and lame. What could be more yawn-inducing than an 'asexual' lead character after all? Just thinking about it is making me bored.

I'm confused as to why he thinks this is 'off-brand':

This kind of desperate attempt to broadcast his relationship status is extremely on-brand. He does it all the time. Other than sperging about the NHS, this is his favourite thing to post about on social media.

I think it’s possible to write asexual characters well, there’s a character in Bojack Horseman named Todd who has a story arc where he realises that he’s asexual and comes to terms with that. But that arc happened like 4 seasons in and beforehand he was established as an actual character with a personality, who did interesting things that were unrelated to his sex drive (or lack thereof).

Thing is that it's a dead end. If you start off on a note that your lead character is asexual you're pretty much dissing future possibilities in storylines. I guess you can have them find another unicorn that just wants to hold hands and not have sex all day, but romance and love triangles are usually a staple of shows, even those that aren't explicitly dramas.

In other words: it's boring and limits everything. If you're creating a tv show, it's all about long-term thinking.

It's my favourite kind of lie where you can reverse-engineer what actually happened based on Olly's warped interpretation of events.

The implication in his story is that these people only just learned the concept of asexuals because they were at a DEI seminar, as opposed to what actually happens in the real world where you're forced to attend these stupid talks so HR can tick a box.

On the topic of an asexual lead...*shrug*. There are plenty of good stories where the protagonist doesn't have any romantic entanglement, but knowing Olly and his allergy to subtlety I'm guessing asexuality was the beginning, middle and end of this character's arc, so I'd actually be interested to hear his pitch to see how he thinks he could stretch that into a story worth watching.

I'm not familiar with how shows/movies are pitched, but I'd think that you'd want to mostly focus on the plot (and why it's interesting), the setting (and what makes it intriguing) and the characters. And with the characters, you'd want to mostly talk about their background, their occupations and their personality traits. Who they do or do not wish to mash their parts with sounds like the kind of thing you mostly wouldn't even bring up if you need to quickly summarize the appeal of your proposal.

'My main character does no sex' doesn't seem like something you'd talk about until you had enough interest for someone to want to hear more details about everything.

(Just my uninformed opinion.)

Right, he sound out of touch with normal people and normal jobs and is disparaging toward them about how ignorant they are. Again the cope of, they didnt like it because there is something wrong with *them* while being unaware of how it makes him look.

It’s amusing that asexuality would be in a workplace dei presentation, presumably in the context of workplace discrimination , because it seems to me like asexuals would be the best employees- no relationships, spouse or kids to distract them, no flirting with coworkers on company time, no risk of sexually harassing coworkers…

That's what makes me so sure he put 2 and 2 together and made 41. I've been forced to sit through these snorefests in the past and they never get that granular unless it's to highlight hot button issues like trans or gender identity.

No one is going to focus on asexuals because, as you point out, there's nothing to say.

I think people like Olly think that throwing in "tranny", "gay" or "asexual" somehow makes something more interesting, which is doesn't. It's all about what sort of storylines can be born out of it - and what storylines cannot. Why does he think we still don't have a lot of shows with gay leads? It's not because people are hugely homophobic, but because it limits storytelling.

Or to put it this way: imagine if Mulder on X-Files was gay. In the short term it wouldn't change much for the case of the week episodes, but long-term it would mean that Scully - or any other female character - was out of play for him romantically. The majority of males aren't gay, so that also limits the pool. So any male character that they would introduce for a potential love interest for Mulder would be a choice (that might not work out).

Of course, in Choob's worldview everyone probably is secretly attracted to him, so I can see how he doesn't think in the same "bigoted" way I do.

They were able to get some mileage out of it on Bojack, because it was a long running show with an ensemble cast and multiple plotlines. Todd was already an interesting and likable character and his explorations of asexuality are B-plots of episodes and spread out over multiple seasons so it never drags.
Ollie's show pitch was likely picking up on well received asexual characters on Heartstopper and Sex Education (literal shows about explaining sexuality) or his favourite vehicle he's trying to hitch a wagon to, Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss (creators made fan art of several characters as "canonically ace", to my knowledge never mentioned on the show). So making the lead asexual (groundbreaking, babes, not just a token!) either meant the show was basically about asexuality, or it was going to be a throwaway reference that limited the character. He's still stuck in that pre-2022 mindset where streaming platforms had loads of venture capital sloshing about and "representation matters" was often enough to get greenlit.
Unless, of course, he was trying to resurrect the cursed Tumblr show pitch

single sex schooling ends up in neurotic adults.
No, it ends up in violent or pedo men taking advantage of teaching positions to fuck up the next generation of men, while turning a blind eye to the next generation of violent or pedo men going HAM on their peers in school. Girls schools just have slightly better marks and a few future engineers/lawyers who get made fun of for having bad hair or specs or something dumb like that.

That's millennial writing in a nutshell. What's the plot of Ghostbusters 2016? It stars women! Okay, what actually happens in the film though? All the ghostbusters are women! Yep, got that, what's the connective tissue to the previous films that makes this need to be a Ghostbusters movie? All! Female! Cast! Well if that's all you've got I guess I'll skip it. You hate women!

In my experience, all-boys schools produce snobby sadists and all-girls schools produce snobby whores. It's not natural to segregate the sexes, especially in their formative years. Seems to provoke something feral in their natures.

TBF to Ghostbusters, it's a comedy and comedies don't really need plotlines or to lead with them. Show a premise and some funny stuff, there's your trailer. You like the premise and think it would be funny? Here you go. GB just didn't have a funny trailer, and since it was a middling movie it didn't get good word of mouth to bolster it.

And honestly, it kind of didn't need it. It made a pretty big box office haul, given the trends with comedy movies as well as the track records of the writer and director. It's just that when making the kind of movie that's a smashing success with a 150mil box office, you can't spend tentpole blockbuster sums on production.

I can almost promise you that there's a girl that Olly knew in school that he wanked off to and is now obsessively skin-walking. Remember: AGPs try to model themselves after what they consider to be the perfect woman (only better, ofc). There's some poor woman out there that he's likely trying to skin walk. I hope for her sake that she doesn't put it together because it must be horrifying to realise that Choob choo-choo-choosed them.
I always assumed that he was mostly trying to skinwalk Contra, who's already skinwalking women. It's like a copy of a copy that gets shittier and shitter as time goes on.

Oh my god I was just thinking about this, it's like you read my mind. I think people also eventually got mad at this one because the asian girl is introverted and the black girl is extroverted, thus being racial stereotypes. I'm not even joking.

Well, Olly likely wasn't just attracted to Hontra for no reason.

Again, AGPs are actually very psychologically interesting.

They have their own problems.
Every girls school attender I ever knew had an eating disorder. They used to have something of an unofficial league competition with it in some places it sounds like.
People go fucky when you seperate them into highly unnatural social groups.

And vanishingly few young people have no desire to have sex. If they were truly lustless, it would be the result of some serious biochemical issue; not just a fun preference. As has been said by Kiwis with far larger brains than mine, asexuality is the lefty version of incel; an admission that one is too physically repulsive to have relations with his or her own species.

They've also made asexual mean literally nothing any more, so.
Who the fuck even knows what.

What Tube probably means is that this 'lead' (played by himself natch) is "asexual" which is a point of contention rather than as it should ordinarily be, a moot point.
It would be agonised over and brought to bear again and again, and without a fucking doubt there would be some love interest anyway, because retards like tube who are bad at writing have no other ideas and asexual means nothing to them anyway.
It would, like everything he comes up with, be an agonising navel gaze on every boring factor of his deeply uninteresting characters most arbitrary "identities" of course making some hammy "breakthroughs", oppressive world be damned!

But yes it didn't get greenlit because this room full of adult, university educated professionals working for a media company, had never before heard this brand new term, "asexual".
