BRANDON, Miss. (WLBT) - A husband and wife who were involved in an apparent murder-suicide in Brandon had recently started the process of a divorce, a friend says.
The bodies of Jennifer Sheffield, 30, and her husband, Brandon Sheffield, 40, were discovered inside a home on Toulon Street on Saturday.
Jennifer’s family was conducting a welfare check on her when the bodies were found.
Family reported “obvious signs of foul play” inside the home, according to police.
Faye Lott described Ms. Sheffield as “the most amazing person I ever had the pleasure to call my friend.”
“She was loving, caring, silly, devoted; one of the most selfless people I knew,” Lott said. “She worked so hard to be a doctor and she made us all so proud!”
Ms. Sheffield, Lott said, was an animal lover. As children, Lott said she and Jennifer were constantly riding horses and catching turtles in the pond.
“All things country kids do,” Lott said.
“Then, when we got older, she blossomed into the most beautiful young woman!” Lott said. “She was absolutely stunning without trying.”
Jennifer and Brandon had recently decided to separate, Lott said, and had started the process of a divorce at the time of the murder-suicide.
Lott called Brandon “an amazing person.” She said she is shocked by his alleged actions.
“He’s never been a violent person that I was ever aware of. I was with her when they met and I’ve always loved him for how he loved her. So it’s definitely hard trying to understand something we will never be able to,” Lott said.
Ms. Sheffield was attending Mississippi College at the time of her death.
Dr. Stan Baldwin is the Dean of the School of Science and Mathematics at Mississippi College and was Ms. Sheffield’s academic advisor while she was enrolled in the Masters of Medical Sciences program there.
Baldwin called Ms. Sheffield “extremely bright,” adding that she was “eager to learn” and “a blessing to all who knew her.”
“Her kindness, generosity, and verve will be deeply missed. Our community is less without her,” Baldwin said.
