Live updates: Brush fire burns in Pacific Palisades as Santa Ana winds blast Southern California - Live video at link

Damn I hope the people who fled their homes also took their pets with them. Hopefully both casualties remain low...
If it's anything like the people fleeing hurricanes, they don't always take the pets with them. If there's anyone still around after it's over, sometimes people will take care of the animals that survived.

The logistics of whether or not the shelters accept animals, (not) having time to find and grab the animal... shit's complicated and no one's really winning in that situation. I don't think I'd be able to grab my cat if the place was on fire because she runs and hides whenever you try to pick her up. It sucks, but I can see why it might happen with some pets.

All the ones I ever worked with had a 2500-4000 gallon capacity. CAL FIRE evidently doesn't have them

Former Europoor firefighter who never had to deal with wildfires here.

We only have the small 500-gallon fire engines here (like the ones from your link) and you instantly have to hook them up to a hydrant because you empty the tank in less than five minutes. With fires like that, what do 4,000 gallons of water even do, assuming that driving to the refill station and back takes at least an hour? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't this be more of a "look, we are doing something!" PR campaign while you pray for better weather than seriously helping?

Every single person who still lived there for years after the rot began is either a waste of flesh junkie, a faggot pedophile rich enough to afford property there, some fat-nosed Jew producer, their undocumented slave labor, or absolutely beyond all capacity for shirking blind sentimentality and getting the fuck out. You CANNOT have a more obvious Sodom and Gomorrah than LA short of maybe Tel Aviv; and I refuse to be manipulated by faggot moral spooks about how 'They're Americans just like you' when they've done nothing but leech lifeblood off the rest of this country, spread their disease to states and communities that didn't want or need it, and look down on every other state with such a disgusting excess of moral superiority unbecoming of normal, decent human beings.
But bro, think about the children! Even if the people there would kill/rape/castrate yours in a hearbeat!

Containment status?

in the 2016 ft. mcmurray fire, not even breaks worked since the winds the fire itself generated were fast enough to propagate embers well past the prepared firebreaks
It's noteworthy that in the 2023 McDougall Creek fire in Kelowna, embers were blown across an almost 2 mile wide lake to start fires on the other side.

So yeah, fire breaks are only so effective.

Gonna bounce off your comment to do a psa - shelters in natural disaster situations often don't take pets, but there are almost always separate pet shelters/rescues that only accept your pet if you can demonstrate that they're up to date on their shots. so be sure to keep vaccination records with other essential documents in your bug out bag if you have pets.

This thing we call a union hasn't felt all that unified in a long time. It's depressing.
I’m not interested in getting into the argument over whether California burning is based or not because we’ll go in circles forever, but it does say a lot about where we’re at. That kinship I feel with my countrymen just for sharing this beautiful chunk of land with me is wearing very, very thin.
