Live updates: Brush fire burns in Pacific Palisades as Santa Ana winds blast Southern California - Live video at link

I thought you fuckers were joking about there literally being no water in the street hydrants! This shit was totally fucking planned. There's no way all of these retarded problems could have happened all at once unless it was planned. No way.
If almost everyone in your state is retarded and/or mentally ill, life will find a way

I mean, isn't this just LA at the moment? San Francisco and the other parts of Cali is fine, no?
It may spread further south to possibly north of San Diego over the next few days as conditions which are conductive for starting fires will slowly move south alongside the fires naturally spreading south.

It's like a nuke went off. Holy fucking shit.
I will never understand who sold these idiots, that they needed to stop clearing the brush out in the forests for the environment.
Sure its great for forests to regenerate... by causing fires.
But I mean the downside is you burn your whole fucking town down.

Just thought I'd give the Kiwis a bit of context as an apparent resident of hell. The only thing "historic" about this fire is the monetary cost and maybe the windspeeds, as far as acreage goes it's tiny compared to the monster fires we've had in our forests. Here's the historic Calfire map:

You can see the current fire outlined in red on the bottom left, everything else in gray and white are past fires

In my opinion the damage has already been done. A huge amount of the Angeles National Forest has been burned in the last decade. There are hiking trails I went on as a teenager that probably don't exist anymore because of fires and subsequent landslides. Some parts of the forest are essentially permanently closed because human activity will further ruin the environment. I'm not sure if there's a point to this post but it's upsetting that the only reason everyone knows about this fire is because rich people are losing their McMansions. If this was just another Angeles Forest fire it'd be a 5 minute spectacle in the broadcast and nothing more

Sad

I don't agree.

This is unprecedented in terms of ca fires. It's happening in January after an abnormally dry winter. The city has been fucked in their capacity to fight fires. I don't think they were expecting to deal with anything near this scale before summer, assuming any competence is left in leadership.

The problem is that there's high winds, zero containment and no plan to save the city. There's no chance of favorable weather. Most previous fires, even the bigger ones have been mostly limited to the mountains with containment lines protecting the most populated areas. The fire in the north is mostly threatening rich Hollywood hills, but if it makes it past the rich mansions, it hits the center of LA.
The eaton fire has much more potential for damage. Alta dena is already a somewhat populated area. The problem is if it spreads left right or down, it goes into densely populated LA suburbs. Everywhere it goes, evacuation zones grows. There's not enough shelters to handle all the refugees from LA

Probably late as fuck. But new fire just dropped.
