Live updates: Brush fire burns in Pacific Palisades as Santa Ana winds blast Southern California - Live video at link

One of the things that's obviously happening is that individual small scale kitchen fires that would be knocked down in 20 minutes by a three-man crew are being ignored because the men and equipment who would ordinarily handle this shit are tied up.

One of the smaller "named" fires earlier sucked up a lot of resources because they wanted to keep that asshole from going to 10,000++ acres.

Driving past individual burning houses seems based but it's a war and you can't get sidetracked.

Not Mark Hamill, not Jamie Lee Curtis!

Those poor people who wish us dead and want hell on Earth. :'(

Mark hamil’s brain has been a force ghost for a long time. Jamie Lee Curtis has her karma by only being able to star in B-C movies where no one gives a shit about any of her characters that are just self inserts of her anyway. Overall this fire couldn’t have happened to better people (except you James woods, you never deserved this).

Black Lives Matter must be getting some major penis envy watching these fires.
Speaking of which, I’m expecting shit to get really fucking bad around LA even after the fires are put out. Stores had already been pulling out of their neighborhoods, muggings/thefts and violence was already part of everyday life, so how much more is all of that going to be after billions of dollars in shops and infrastructure just went up in ashes?

The wind has chilled out, is it going to pick up again later or can they actually reasonably fight the fire now?

Gay nigga tranny cannibal gangs. It happened in africa, wouldn't shock me happening here.

Seriously any kiwis still there, GTFO, idc if you have to do some pink triangle worthy shit to get out, just GET OUT!!!

Alternatively, craft an exit bag. I imagine quality of life will only plummet from here.

I honestly didn't think the richest farmer would be Jewish.
hes as much of a farmer as jeff bezos is a delivery driver. He OWNS farms. Actually I hear jews think farming is one of the lowest occupations one can have.

At least on US hydrants, the top part is also what holds the hydrant's valve in place. Unless it's been isolated by closing gate valves on the water main, it's still under pressure.
The US has 2 types of Hydrants depending on where they are. Wet Hydrants and Dry Hydrants.

With Dry Hydrants the actual valve is several feet down on the level of the water main. The knob on top of the hydrant just turns a shaft that opens the valve below. You can shear the physical hydrant off and no water will come out. By design. These were designed for the cold weather states to prevent the hydrant from freezing in winter. And to prevent a broken hydrant from creating a massive pool of ice.

With Wet Hydrants the valve is at the base of the hydrant itself. So the only part that does not always have water is 2-3' of the fireplug itself that sits above ground. These are much cheaper. Easier to install and maintain. But are really only used for places that do not freeze. In theory Wet Hydrants should shear off just above the valve, preventing a geyser. In practice results may vary.

But that top head of the hydrant isn't really holding the Valve in place. Or rather it works the opposite of what you seem to be saying. If the top part of the hydrant is removed the valve will fail in a closed state. The top "penis head" of the hydrant is the solid brace that lets you push down on the valve mechanism with the screw shaft to hold it open.

I know Elon's a self-made meme but Starlink is fucking brilliant for getting online in a tricky situation.

Pity the hardware options are "on", "off", and "poke the panel counter/clockwise until the app is happy".

Some thoughts. Perhaps they have already been stated.

First, this fire is a kick in the nuts to Newsom. This fire isn't in some wilderness or some hick town, but it's fixing to burn Beverly Hills and likely some of Los Angeles, places full of Newsom supporters. His policies and the ineptness of his state's government prevented or hampered good land AND WATER management. This is also an object lesson to the rest of the country as to what they could expect from a President Newsom.

Second, this is an arrow into the carcass of DEI. When you have a fire chief who apparently prioritizes DEI over firefighting and is so proud of her sexual preferences, only to seemingly look clueless when the shit really hits the fan you see the true uselessness of the term DEI. Face it, if you hire for character and ability you get the diversity and inclusion. If you promote based on experience and demonstrated potential you get the diversity and inclusion. Equity is anathema to mission accomplishment.

Third, this makes Bass look like more of a fucking fool than she already is for cutting $17 million from the LAFD's budget. And why was she going to Africa in the first place?

The cost of this fire will go into the billions, the number left homeless will be many thousands, and hopefully the numbers of injured and killed will be small. Suggest good land AND WATER management would have at least mitigated the spread of this conflagration. The politicians and environmentalists of CA, who have already put way too many hardships on the state and its' people, deserve primary blame, with Numbnuts Newsom, Bozo Bass, and Chief DEI following behind.
