I had the misfortune of living a california-adjacent area for a time, and had friends who were outdoorsy typical hikers and sierra club suck-offs.
I tried to explain to them the last time the state burned (I mean you know like really burned) how they COULD be doing controlled burns in the winter when there's water instead of waiting for everything to be a tinder box and they looked at me like I was trying to say 2 + 2 = 7
Their arguments were a combination of "That doesn't deal with climate change!" + "that won't really fix anything & think of the poor animals" + "I don't want to hike when its smells of smoke or through the charred ruins of a forest!"

Basically we do what should be a natural small and infrequent burns because it'll make the area look yucky, better to have 10% of the state immolated and blame oil.

Also you forgot the tent cities on the streets and general methhead hobo towns full of highly flamable shit, with lots of barriers making them hard to traverse, and things like propane canisters and alcohol through out.

Yes. California is utterly rotten with them, and they are a good part of why many of the fires get totally metal despite the native vegitation being adapated to completely laugh off fires.

I guess what I'm saying is that the only sad parts of this that is San Fransisco isn't also getting fucked and it is unlikely that entirety of LA will burn + being its unlikely the entire population will die in the fires, it might force LA residents on to areas that aren't completely fucked. But mostly just that San Fransisco hasn't been swallowed by the earth.

Normal Hydrant Pressure is 50 PSI. Even after the Fire Pumper boosts it to nozzel pressure it's only 125psi At 200psi from the mains plumbing in the houses starts exploding. The Water Heater explodes. The whole house moans and screams and shakes when you turn the water on.

it's basically because invasive plants and others that tend to fuck up their nutrient intake end up being burnt to death while they survive it
but because we've imported the fir, it grows so fast that by the time a fire happens, the fire can climb up the fir and burn the native tree's leaves, killing it
that and also because first makes a fuckton of brush that makes fires into wildfires

I don’t know about it making things worse (EVs do have the habit of turning into a toxic, unquenchable inferno) but I do know you can get a ticket in fire prone areas for having anything dragging from you car or pulling off to the side of the road into the brush. That might be the only benefit of EVs, I would assume the underside is cool enough that you wouldn’t set the brush on fire.

Gonna be pretty eye opening for a lot of people to see how fast the feds throw money at Cali for the recovery efforts of their shrines of hubris right after they left North Carolina to drown and rot away like 3 months ago. Then again they let NC rot away while throwing Ukraine money at literally the same exact time so maybe it won't be that eye opening at all.

The moral fagging over this is so retarded. California has spent centuries making sure this would happen. Californians have spent centuries funding that decision. Everyone else spent centuries telling California this would happen and they need to stop. Sympathy is wasted here. Pearls before swine.

I especially have no sympathy because California, instead of fixing their retarded water over usage (e.g. they fucking LOVE flood irrigation) have been trying to redirect rivers from other states to drain the water from them into itself. This is AFTER the state drained the Colorado river so dry it no longer reaches mexico. California is a vampire. It wants the whole of the continent to burn with it.

And if by some act of mental defect anyone still wants to feel bad for them, I recommend not using too much energy. Nothing will be learned from this. It'll happen again within the next 2-3 years.

Mostly spreading for natural reasons - brush catching fire, plenty of tinder available and then the everything starts to combust. What makes it truly scary is that you reach a point where the heat itself essentially makes the devastation self-sustaining - eventually it gets so intense that the blasts of heat thrown off by the fire flash-boil the sap in trees, and some of them - namely Pine trees and the likes of Eucalyptus trees - start fucking exploding.

The massive updrafts cause intense wind, as well as intense heat. Combustible materials go up like flash paper. If the terrain allows for it, the result is a firestorm - a series of pressure fronts that create hurricane-force winds of intense heat, as well as fire tornadoes. It is fucking horrifying.

And that shit is what we're seeing now.

You aren't wrong except:
a) there is so much invasive shit like Eucalyptus that will render adaptions to a normal Mediterranean Climate forest fire completely moot. Redwoods are ok with a normal fire especially when they've killed off anything from growing at ground level with their canopy, not with a fucking oil torch exploding next to them that spent past 30 years sucking up all the ground water.
b) Along with point a you have forests of not-quite-invasive-but-non-native plants like firs that were moved in, they didnt' do so well in the droughts, and now they are just tinder.
c) The issues is they don't burn on a regular basis. The past 100+ years have been sent containing wildfires instead of having controlled burns. If they actually planned to do some controlled burns and create firebreaks, we wouldn't see the entire state in uncontrolled ragers. But the entire state is full of retards with no long term memory and the inability to connect cause and effect.
