An idle thought. While it is true Insurance is only for the structure and not the land, the value of that land is entirely based on where it is an who else lives in the same neighborhood. I imagine those property values are going to crater. Especially if the people living there decide it's just not worth rebuilding and move elsewhere.

Couple this with people building ghastly McMansions on tiny lots plus the fact that they eliminated single-family zoning in the state.

What was a "modest" McMansion is going to be an 8-story luxury bughive.

That was one of the "BREAKING NEWS: DRUMPF IS STUPID AND EVIL. SOURCES SAY ORANGE MAN BAD" moments that really pissed me off because I remembered fucking elementary school science. And it wasn't just "drumpf wants to rake the woods", it was "drumpf thinks the forest has carpeting and a ceiling because he mentioned the forest floor and canopy! We need to invoke the 25th amendment and impeech him!"

It's LA, a "crash" would be from $100 million per acre, to like 80. The major value comes from proximity to the entertainment industry.

My neck of the suburban woods hasn’t burned down in the night and I’m seeing that the evac orders for the Sunset Fire were lifted as of 7:30 AM.

But holy shit seeing that the Palisades and Eaton fires don’t even have a percentage of containment yet is devastating.

I'm back with bad news.
Weather models are showing that the San Diego area might be up next. Wind gusts up to 70-80mph are possible in the Los Angeles and San Diego area for the next day or two, with very low humidity still lingering around. If these fires don't get contained soon then this will get even worse than it already has.
Genuinely praying for these people. It's not like they even voted for this. They voted for stuff like controlled burns and water reservoirs and they got none of it.

Palisades is a mixture of Hollywood elite liberals and Hughes engineers who made a shit ton of money and bought a house there when it was nothing but sand. So there is a weird left-right dichotomy there. I think it is overall more Democratic though.

Something funny about all this is that one of the more conservative parts of Los Angeles, the Palos Verdes Peninsula (where Trump’s golf course is), is very high risk for wildfires, but it has not caught fire at all.
