Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Realtime raytracing, TAA, and the chase towards photorealism has been a net negative on graphics for the past 6+ years.
I've been hearing that since the Xbox 360, if not the PS2.

It might feel like that in the beginning if you play it for the first time. Soon after you will have a storage chest filled with ink ribbons.
Unless you're playing the original English PAL release, which has hard mode as the one and only difficulty.

But yes, Resident Evil 1 on PS1 is clucky. I prefer the DS version due to the QoL changes it added, including door skips, quick reloads, 180 turn, and quick knife. The damage this does to certain scenes and the grainy FMV is worth the trade off.

I don't really get the love for Bully, I'm not saying it's bad but I didn't really like it.
Its still pretty unmatched as a social sandbox. The combat actually has a lot of nuance too, in that you have a lot of ways of fighting but the ai doesnt really fight back. Its weird because theres a high skill ceiling to its systems but nothing to actually test those skills, that said if you want a game that's fun to mess around in there's a lot to do in it.

This is a trend with those devs too if you play any of their games, tons of player agency but no adversity at all so the only thing that makes you try things is to see how their little interaction systems will behave. Its true in Sleeping Dogs and The Chant (a game youve never heard of) as well.

I blame the uptick of gambling monetization in video games on Counter Strike: GO's skin values. You can buy virtual skins with real money, and those skins would retain, even appreciate their monetary value for other players to trade/keep. This goes in hand with a gambling website scandal where players could gamble real money for virtual skins.

I remember dudes on YouTube I used to watch who did interesting shit that later had their channels become nothing but gambling for CS:GO skins and they acted like total crackheads. There are probably people shitting themselves at casino slot machines or agonizing over a fucking football parlay that have less-crackheady gambling problems than those guys. Same is also true of the guys who sit around opening Madden Ultimate Team packs.

I tried the Beyond Citadel demo just now. I cannot try getting into it when it's feels like a perverts goon/troon game. Looking down and seeing a big pair of low poly titties was amusing for Jurassic Park Trespasser but seeing anime tits no thank you. I understand the game is made by a Japanese dude so I don't think it's made with the current culture wars in mind but it's still such an unpleasant game especially seeing little anime girls getting their heads blown off.

The boob tattoo health indicator is nothing compared to a game made by a dude who is both a proud fan of guro, shota, and incest. If it puts you off I would not suggest looking up anything the creator makes beyond that.

It's the video game equivalent of, 'Why Do All Wannabe Black Musicians Think They Can Rap/Do Hip-Hop?'

Mouthwashing is kinda lame and not the “wow so deep” game everyone makes it out to be. I don’t think it’s bad per say, but some parts are really heavy-handed.
Im curious what parts do you perceive as heavy handed?

Do you think about dead pixel scene?

I only play games I actually like. If it has wokeness in it, I just uninstall. Turns out not engaging in rage bait leaves you time to actually play games.

I do this too but I feel like a lot of gamers are addicted to negativity, they don't even play games they just rage against wokeshit online.

I don't like Grand Theft Auto 4. People glaze it because unlike 5 it didn't have microtransactions or a stupid multi player mode but the cast including Niko are extremely boring and the mission design is uninspired.

It just might be the most boring Rockstar game if RDR2 didn't exist.

No the "hey cousin let's go bowling" meme does not make it good.

GTA4 had a lot of problems. Your cousin calling you to annoy you. The god-awful vehicle physics.

But Niko wasn't one of them... Except that he didn't belong in a GTA game.

GTA4 was... an identity crisis. Inspired by the more character-focused San Andreas, they tried to go all-in on the dramatic storytelling. Niko was a very relatable, down to earth character... Probably the most realistic GTA has ever had.

But he didn't really belong in the GTA world.

Maybe not an "unpopular opinion" or even an opinion at all.

I have this suspicious feeling of the lack of coop games and only PvP games (with the lack of PvE, PvPvE) is a psyop (or some sadistic game devs just being pure evil) to keep people away from collaborating, incentivising a "everyone is against everyone" mentality. I remember battle royale games banning you from "teaming" (players from different sides collaborating, despite them being enemies in game). No, this should NOT be a bannable playstyle, it's the purest form of a diplomacy mechanics a game can offer! It gets even worse that more and more games remove voice chats. Most games don't allow you to comunicate with the enemies. The excuse is often "toxticity" for the voice chat, and the "teaming" ruining the "intended way to play". I really hate this dev mentality and it's not sincere. They remove actual social mechanics in the games and are replacing them with superficial emojis/dances. which really makes me think their retarded reasons for removing and banning these features are very dishonest.

I know there are cases for banning teming in a BR game, but consider this: Alpha Centauri had voice chat, Civilization VI does not have voice chat, these games are games with some emphasis on diplomacy! I honestly don't play a game anymore that doesn't have coop (it's sad to play alone too...) and is incentivising you to only kill others without any options to do something else. The only game I have seen giving me some hope is Dark and Darker, unfortunately not my genre, but it does feature you to spare players and to let them go away and you can both "win". So at least there is some "hope".

I know it sounds "dumb" to care about these small features, but I don't like this psychopathic game designs when I look at the state of the world right now. I'm not advocating for "muh peace in vidya" gay shit, no I just want the option for collaboration or at least sparing players as an allowed option.

Ok, an actual unpopular opinion as a tax for my wall of text meme above: Warzone should force the player to have a mic and the proximity kill voice chat is mandatory. You already got anti-cheat and other useless bloat, so at least make something fun out of it.

I try not to rage too much against woke shit. Everyone’s definition seems to vary on what is woke. Rather use that time to find something that i would enjoy. Cultured Vulture has some good videos about top video games on retro platforms that have helped.

I played the original The Citadel demo (I don't think Beyond has a demo) but it just felt like a low-effort Doom mod...one sound effect for monster death, long boring hallways, inconsistent artstyle.
