as a something awful refugee I can't get used to stickers and ratings. Emptyquoting is what we all live forI love ratings. I love stickers. I love clicking on things. If this is wrong I don't want to be right!!!!
Most of that stuff's old as all hell by internet standards, too.I think the saddest part for goons has to be that they think they're an epicenter of internet culture, but really they're the awful shitshow you have to escape. They created AYB, swap.avi, Slender Man, and nurtured Minecraft, LPs and other shit, sure. But none of that was the least bit prolific or profitable until it got as far away from SA as it could.
Slender Man is Bye Bye Man now and making money in theaters
swap.avi led to 2 girls 1 cup and got huge
Minecraft didn't explode until Notch broke off all contact with SA
LPs became twitch and Youtube streaming because no one at SA could be bothered to come up with a platform to actually view and monetize them
AYB didn't even get huge until eBaum's world ripped them off wholesale and used FARK to proliferate it.
The anime subforum was where 4chan has it's deepest roots, but they got ran out by FYAD after taking it over for a few weeks using the rules put forth by the SA admins.
So if anything online truly wants to be great, it has to escape from the unfunny, lazy and directionless grip of the goons.
It is for this reason alone I think Star Citizen might (miraculously, I might add) end up successful, because it started out big with goons and then kicked them all out

As if he wouldn't implement MLK discounts on SA if he thought it could get him more boxed wine and Ambien.FireShot Capture 2 - Rich Lowtax Kyanka (@lowtax) I Twitter_ - https___twitter.com_lowtax.png
Lowtax, you thirsty Becky, last week you said you didn't know tranny was a bad word and now you're Woke to the Struggle of people buying SSD cards at a discount price?
They'll be ok after a few weeks."as a something awful refugee" is going to end up being how you tell who is an unfunny faggot
SA is a throw back and it would still have some popularity. The paid ten bucks could be seen as a status symbol. If they just moved away from the Safe Space bullshit.
Also I sure hope no one doxx's David bloomquest from AI, I wanna see if he ever finishes that truck
I gave up on that thread around mid December it got way too AI crclejerky like it always does in there especially when 14 inch is posting.
e: the amount of skill required to doxx David would be somewhere between that of a toddler and a exceptional toddler.
Heavens to Betsy 6 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Forget everything I said these monsters need to be exterminated. Just kiddng but this illustrated the attitude of many posters here which I find distasteful.

This is from a few pages back, but it's worth commenting on for real. It's easy to say "6 hours is nothing, go read a book or whatever, can't you step away from the forums for that long?" And yeah, I agree that anyone who gets real-life super-upset over getting a six hour probe is a little spergy.
But when it happens over time and in a widespread fashion, it has a chilling effect on everyone feeling like they can have a free discussion of things. Whether or not it's "only" a six hour probation, the person has been removed from the conversation, in many cases until it has run its course. In fact, in most cases a six hour probation lasts longer than an actual ban, since there's no time limit on how quick you can shell out another ten bucks. And they've been given an example: express a point of view that contradicts the moderators and you get punished. How do you think that affects what someone will post in the future?
There is a pattern of people getting punished for expressing a different view than the moderators. Go look at the recent wave of posts that Koalas Marching probated people for. There's no rules being broken. They couldn't even be considered white noise. Look at these.

Those aren't breaking any rules. They can't even be considered "white noise." There's a lot of probations like this. It's just punishing someone for having a different view or discussing something that the moderator doesn't like. Regardless of what you may think about the position being stated in these posts, in no way are they rule-breaking other than "the mod doesn't like what you are saying." D&D is the worst for this, but it happens elsewhere. Those aren't even the best examples, but they are the most recent. And anyone who posts on SA knows that this happens ALL THE TIME.
The end result of this, regardless of whether the punishment for wrongthink is "only" a six hour probation, is that people feel like they can't express a controversial opinion or express a viewpoint that the mods/admins won't like. At that point, the forums become an echobox, and they suck unless you really get off on just hearing your own opinions parroted back at you.
