Live updates: Brush fire burns in Pacific Palisades as Santa Ana winds blast Southern California - Live video at link

Jesus Christ what a clusterfuck. I think I'm looking at the American equivalent of Chernobyl here. We've got it all, major disaster being downplayed by corrupt politicians and yes men, incompetence running all the way up and down the ladder, good people doing their damndest to make things better, and the official position being of course to deny that it's in any way as bad as it clearly is. The only possible upside is that these lobotomized fuckwits hate nuclear energy so much they wouldn't dare even consider putting a reactor in a fifty mile radius of their zion. So no radiation or cancer. Just...... burns, and pain.

I'd laugh if I didn't know the people who're gonna suffer for this are the ones who didn't deserve it. Meanwhile the cunts in charge get off scott free yet again.
Just another day in the second gilded age I suppose.

You heard the dyke firefighter, they got themselves into a bad situation it isn’t on Xer to assist
It’s like the RockThrow comic about advertising with two dudes kissing and the boss ask ‘how is this supposed to help sell burgers’ except the burgers is firefighting.

I'm 100% pro-nuke power but you really have to ask yourself if the world would be safe with these people responsible for the operation of a nuclear reactor? I know they say modern reactors are idiot-proof but are they California Elected-Official Idiot-proof?

So many coincidences and incompetence starts bordering on conspiracy eventually. This now after funding cuts? I suppose I simply cannot come to terms that the incompetence is really this deep. It's Lovecraftian Screenshot_20250110-133648.png

As I live in Los Angeles County, but not particularly close to the fires themselves, this whole event has been rather surreal for me. It goes without saying that the political fallout for this is going to be massive, to say nothing of the economic and social ramifications. However, I'm still worried that Gavin Newsom, Karen Bass, and their ilk might be able to squirm away from their epic failure (practically indistinguishable from deliberate sabotage) by some slim chance.

The most hilarious thing about this entire situation to me is that an entire committee put money into and approved the video of that creature saying it wasn’t their obligation, as a firefighter, to assist someone who got placed in an u fortunate circumstance.

Self-funded folly. I’d say that I couldn’t believe they’d publish that shit, but I’d be lying.

They will. Politicians almost always face no consequences even when their negligence or corruption is blatant. The worst case they get a punitive "show" for the public and afterwards are quietly given a few hundred thousand dollars to fuck off. The system works as intended, of course; just not for your benefit

Re: Insurance
We recently bought a 100 year old house in a low-risk area and while we didn't have a problem finding an insurer, the fact that we had to go looking for one when all of our other policies are with State Farm (and have been for 30+ years) was annoying. At the time our SF agent said we might be able to get one in 2025... I don't see that happening now.

So some claim that a bigger one, 8.0 is on the way (doubt):

But if so that and a tsunami taking out San Francisco and NorCal would make this the Cali Trifecta by which the entire US wins big at the track.

Pray hard, kiwis.
8.0????? Im huffing a fuckload of hopium, but fuck no way that's gonna happen.
If Homer Simpson can do it, a BIPOC obese lesbian can too!
I would have infinitely more trust in Homer tbh.

The citizens of Los Angeles literally hired someone to tell them it wasn't her job to do the thing they just hired her to do. It's perfect in every way. This would be a rejected SNL skit it's so absurd.

With how much hate California gets, I am surprised there is not a significant call to have them leave the Union.
Can't because of the ports and coastline. Those communists would embrace tariffs overnight.

They would hire the ayatollah's son

Send Eathquakechan and her sister Tsunamichan all your energy! Make it happen I don't care how but that shithole is in serious need of retooling.

Santa Susanna, aka Rocketdyne, is 18 miles north of Hollywood in unincorporated Ventura and was the site of the first commercial reactor in the US to experience a partial core melty. So the answer is no and the fact they haven't removed and cleaned up the waste pile of nuclear shit means we can add a mini-Chernobyl to our speedrun of American style late stage USSR collapse.

Edit: lol its spreading into Ventura now, post made an hour ago. California was already bad when I left but this is an unprecedented level of shit I have never seen in my life ever, Sub-Saharan Africans can be imported to more competently run LA, that's how bad this is.
