It's statistics and you can doctor them however you want to make it work out the way you need.
Wage growth "over the entire economy" is a shit metric, because rich people who make excess money don't really care much, and so their wages could have stayed even or risen, but the average fucker working hourly saw his effective wages decrease.
These fuckers slip from "the economy" as a whole to individuals and back however it suits them.
Nobody gives a shit if the price of eggs is 10x what it used to be, they care because everything feels more expensive (even if some things are cheaper) and economics is much more about feels than whatever particular facts you decide to focus on.
Which is why it's much more important to look at indicators of where people are coming into the economy (complaining about not being able to afford housing) than it is to look at the stock market or how fat the fat cats are.
