Phil lives in extremes... all streamers are either the little guy like him (which he isn't, 200k+ subs even if 150k are dead accounts, and he makes 6 figures largely in direct tips) or Mr Beast, insanely rich.
Having a black protagonist used to mean nothing but now it's a sign that you're about to be lectured on trans rights and white privilege. Black people have been put in the same circle as purple-haired feminists and transexual freakshows, so now any nonwhite (outside of some genres where it's expected like fighting games) is a huge red flag. Not only that but it's a sign that the game itself sucks - that it isn't the expression of an inspired creative vision but instead constructed by marketers chasing trends and listening to their DEI advisor team that makes six figures a year to make character designs browner and fatter and gayer.

It's not just that but Nioh is clearly a fantasy game through and through and a lot of the characters based on real people are fictionalized, William Adams himself is turned into an Irish pagan when in real life he was an English Anglican. Yasuke even appears in both games as one of Nobunaga's samurai retainers and he's the boss in the penultimate mission of Nioh's base game. You can even play as him by using the transform option which allows you to play as almost any NPC if you want. AssCreed does the motte and bailey thing where 5% of it is sci-fi bullshit while 95% of it presents itself as authentic historical fiction, so if you accept Leonardo Da Vinci creating prototype weapons for Ezio you have to accept AssCreed Spookz' BNWO fanfic. I remember one of the games that was set in France had Thomas-Alexandre Dumas as one of the characters the main characters interacted with often, Dumas was a mulatto. Nobody complained because he was a notable and multiple times decorated cavalry general in actual history and has served France for over 15 years.
I have said for years. I would love to be in his head for like five minutes. See the world as he sees it. Because the reality he speaks about is so alien, so absurd, yet seems so real to him. I have to know.
God I have also been saying this for ages. Like even when someone like Asmongold is being a complete fucking mong to chat he is somehow infinitely more personable and charismatic than Phil. To say nothing of like every other streamer I have watched. It is awe inspiring in a weird sort if way. But also ties in with my first point. Phil doesn't percieve the same reality we all do. So he probably reads chat as "Phil you are a stupid nigger who can't tie his shoes at 42."

Something tells me that if a game got released that was set in Sub Saharan Africa thousands of years in the past and the main character was white you would be frothing at the mouth screeching for all to hear how its not historically accurate and African culture was being bastardized for an extra few dollars.
