Well, I'm not sure I'd go that far. He was a funny guy and when he was on the ball he knocked it out of the park but all of the OG were pretty funny...barring maybe Matt and Gus. They were occasionally good in skits and usually good in RvB but I don't think they were ever the funny makers vs funny guys if that makes any sense.

It was a damn shame what they ended up doing to Joel though. It really did seem that he was the one primarily keeping the lights on until they got acquired by Fullscreen in 2014. I think they were making a good chunk of their money early on primarily from doing commercial/corporate work which Joel was in charge of acquiring iirc, and I wonder how many people are aware of that.

My guess is that he got sidelined by Fullscreen and in effect quietly demoted and relegated to a metaphorical small office to spin his wheels doing busy work. A kind of 'Quiet Firing', which would be the inverse of 'Quiet Quitting'.

Or maybe he just became a lazy piece of shit and got fired for fucking around. The world will never know, probably.

as @NomineNemo mentioned he was in charge of/managed/negotiated some of the corporate moneymakers behind the scenes. Roosterteeth at one time made commercials for some games, gamestop, and some other stuff.

As others mentioned he was the one getting them production gigs because he actually had connections within the industry and he was in charge of advertising RT itself. Which is pretty important when your an independent production house.
