You are right to hate those things, they tend to catch fire like you would not believe when they aren't wired correctly.

You'd have a hard time finding a compact fluorescent these days. Everything is LED.

Flush fit cans are literally the worst. They couldn't make a shittier light fixture if they tried.

The popcorn ceiling framing the fixture you like it also vintage.
