UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Oh the Russell man is just trying to place the blame for his daughter's completely avoidable suicide on someone other than himself and his completely inappropriately negligent parenting.
It's the same situation with Briana Ghey's family, the usual suspects love using families that have lost a child to advocate for awful shit under the facade of protecting children. Any attempts to point out that it's bullshit and the dead child is being used as an excuse is met with outrage.

Man whose daughter committed suicide after seeing unspecified 'harmful content' on the internet appeals to daddy government to be a parent for him.
I bet he did not restrict her acess to her phone, the intenet or the content that was causing this, despite having all the right to as her parent and the tools having existed since smart phones came out and that also he did nothing to help…
He allowed the child to spend all her time with a device that he knew was being used by her peer group to send her torrents of abuse. He knew she was self harming and allowed her to browse shitloads of self harming content. The idea of taking the fucking phone off her and moving her school was apparently incomprehensible; also using his middle class wealth and access to get the child some private psychiatric assistance.
EVERY FUCKING TIME!

Because their response to their politics resulting in the mass import of 70 IQ rapists is "but what about Jimmy Savile".
This is true, but the fact that he's a gay nonce does insulate him a fair bit. Looking at a news aggregator, basically nowhere is reporting on this save for a small handful of the right-wing tabloids (who are only running the story because they can put the words 'Labour pedo' in their headlines). This will otherwise be memory holed within 24 hours.

It reminds me of a story either last year or the year before in which some drag queen got Gary Plauché-d because he nonced on someone's kid. If you haven't heard about that, it's because only 2 or 3 newspapers picked up the story and that was the end of that. Gay pedos are a protected class almost to the same degree that Pakistani pedos are.

Also Caplin's an 'Early life' person, so he has that extra layer of protection as well.

*Edit* I found the drag queen story I mentioned. The BBC published this article about it, which only begrudgingly mentions the fact that the drag queen that got put down was a convicted child rapist briefly in the closing sentences. It otherwise talks about how beloved he was and the vigils that were held in his memory. The BBC covering for a child rapist? Hard to believe, I know.

This Spectator article did a good job of outlining just how insane the coverage (or lack thereof) of the incident was. Well worth a read if you're unfamiliar with the story.

No, it happened on YOUR watch.

Naturally this will likely be used as an excuse to pass some draconian internet regulation laws, so look forward to that.
Blimey, Hugh Grant’s aged like milk.

If only they'd had this level of interest when dealing with the past 15+ years of grooming and abuse of vulnerable children.

Only those advocating the stuff the usual suspects are in favour of get that treatment.
The rest are told they should consider themselves lucky the child isn't still being raped.
