Is there a particular reason that they set Kayla's settlement date so far out compared to Nick's? Is it just the court looking for a free date that worked?

Yes. Kayla’s attorney, Maggie Kluver, is an actual practicing attorney and is therefore really busy. If you search her on MCRO, she takes on new cases almost daily. Lots of DUIs and DV cases. Her schedule is probably packed for weeks and weeks.

I think they may also be expecting that Nick's plea is taking care of it. Either charges against Kayla will be dismissed as part of Nick's plea or she is taking a similar deal.

All this legal expense and drama and CPS taking the kids for awhile (to the grandparents, but still) all because this loser wouldn't just let his drug results get pulled and take the probation plea deal immediately.
Nick has spent all this time and effort and legal retardation for literally zero gain. He's exactly where he would have been had he just plea dealed out the gate, except with more money spent and somehow even less of his reputation intact.
I wonder if he's only comfortable admitting he's taking the plea deal because it knocks off the child endangerment charge to admit he's a junkie and doing coke is hip and cool to him.

Do we have an estimate for how much he's spent on legal fees for this case? He's spent $100k-200k on legal fees in the Montagraph defamation suit and that's only in discovery.

I really can't even speculate since Nick is just a lying liar who lies. It could be completely made up, bogus nonsense.
It sounds something like an allocution of guilt, and Nick being the little punk bitch he is would have to make that be like pulling teeth. I seriously doubt (if this bullshit even happened) that the judge "was not ready to ask" the cut and dried questions relating to the elements of the offense that Nick would have to plead guilty to.
It's vastly more likely that he was just being a little bitch.
