I live near where the 5 & 2 meet, and the closest fire is like 8-10 miles from us as the crow flies. It's a letter to JPL employees to commemorate the launch of the Deep Impact mission from Charles Elachi. The power of heat and wind is incredible! Of course, yes, I'm assuming this came from that area and didn't originate closer, but it's a pretty safe assumption that's where it came from. Unreal. Every bit of ash is part of someone's misery, and it just makes me so sad to find

FDNY is perfectly capable of fighting these types of fires. You would not be putting them out in the woods with a shovel. They operate the trucks and work fire lines. And most of them have experience with fast moving wildfires. New York and New Jersey have Pine Barrens that explode every few years. Plus from the Northern Bronx upwards New York has some of the densest forest in the US. Plus unlike Mexico and Canukistan there is no language barrier. FDNY has done this many times in the past.
