'Hacking But Legal' is a foolish concept if you put any thought into it, particularly in the context that Jackie Singh seems to believe it fits in. This isn't about 'not breaking the law', it's about the values that the law and the legal system should theoretically uphold, in an abstract sense.
Faith in 'the law' as a concept has far less to do with various codes and regulations, but rather the belief in the idea that no matter who you are, you will be held accountable for your actions.
This is a concept that anyone who wishes to live in a civillised society should also believe in. This does not mean agreeing with the law all of the time - it can and will be abused. What it means is a belief in rights, justice, freedom, accountability and so on. These terms in the legal sense generally mean very different things to how leftists use them, however that is a different discussion entirely.
'Hacking But Legal' is nothing except a shallow "I love technology, but don't question authority!" stance with essentially nothing to do with any of the concepts I have mentioned. It's as if she's against breaking the law because she fears the consequences of doing so or believes that breaking the law is akin to some form of heresy against the authority that she looks up to, that being the government. This is regardless of the fact that she has likely broken the law on several occasions.
In an entirely authoritarian society that defied the aforementioned concepts she would believe the same thing - 'Hacking But Legal'. It has nothing to do with upholding a genuine set of beliefs. This kind of mindset is an insult to the law itself.
This is my problem with it - a superficial and authoritarian adherence to the law that lacks any moral or philosophical engagement with what the law is supposed to represent. I can imagine that if the Tor network was banned by the US Government she would begin attempting to hunt people hosting relays; hacking but legal, right?

I'm not saying you don't need a smart phone. It's pretty much up there with having a car. I'm required by my employer to maintain both.
If you just get the previous year's model, you'll save a fortune. You don't even need to go to some fly by night shady place or get a used phone.
This is like buying a new car vs a used one. And getting cell phone through your provider makes as much sense as getting your oil changed at a dealership.
I bet you she keeps phones for 36 months which is how long her payment plans are. Keep in mind, with her credit, at a minimum, her APR is 25%.

The ultra-rich are very well known, and Jackie isn't among their number. The "everyday rich" (i.e. the millionaire next door) live deep within their means and don't buy luxury items. Jackie is one of those people who lives beyond her means (to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars) buying items she can't afford to look richer than she is. All it will take for her to panic is one unexpected bill.
