Consulting with military personnel for general accuracy of weapons, plot, tactics is not the government funding a blockbuster video game.

And they use this genuine belief in fiction to justify comitting real-life harms (in this context justifying censoring video games, but in earlier contexts comitting whatever abuses on behalf of religion, or the current child genital mutilation fad in the name of transgenderism), because they have no grounding in reality or the actual harm they are ready and willing to commit in the name of their fictional realities.

In this case, this particular user seems to have adopted a fixation on fictional anime children. Do with that information what you will.

You know this argument is used by people who want to display pictures of naked cartoon children being raped everywhere, right? I used to use this argument all the time, and then I realized I was wrong and the media we consume really does influence our minds. And my problem isn't so much violent content, but how the government uses it to manipulate our minds. We know cops shoot actual targets of people to make sure they don't hesitate to shoot a crook. Is it really surprising the government wants to mentally prepare tens of millions of Americans to shoot groups the neocon war machine wants you to? If you've played hundreds of hours growing up of hearing voices of foreigners and being told "kill Russians kill Muslims" and then getting that dopamine hit from killing virtual versions of them, you're one step closer to being the sort of soldier the government wants you to be.

That's why they got rid of the World War II theme in AAA FPS games (barring the occasional throwback) because the whole AAA side of the genre is about preparing you to be a good zogbot. And yes, most people cannot mentally tell fiction from reality. That's why they insert messages into it, and we know this works. To be a bit more serious on the topic. A lot of people don't really know what the purpose of Military investment in CoD actually was and they leave out the context for it. The first Modern Warfare game came out late the 2000-2010 region, nearing a decade after 9/11. War fatigue had begun to set in, recruitment was beginning to drop, and the U.S. military saw a good chance to advertise through its games. It is also why the Transformer films are USAF wank material.


Ironically in this discussion of desensitization is lost on the idea that... people would be desensitized to the advertising material. So as you noted with the current issues with recruitment, these efforts have long stopped paying dividends.
