UK Former Labour MP Ivor Caplin arrested after 'paedophile hunter' Facebook live stream sting

A sting operation by online paedophile hunters has led to the arrest of an ex MP on suspicion of child sex offences.

Former Labour defence minister Ivor Caplin was MP for Hove from 1997 to 2005 and was arrested on Saturday in Brighton. Videos shared on social media showed the 66-year-old, wearing a bright red hat and a black top, in handcuffs and surrounded by two officers.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "We are aware of footage circulating on social media showing a man in Brighton being detained on suspicion of engaging in sexual communication with a child. Officers can confirm a local 66-year-old man was arrested on Saturday January 11 and currently remains in custody.

“'This is an ongoing and active investigation.”

Self-proclaimed paedophile hunters live streamed a sting operation and the moment of the arrest, which lasted around 30 minutes and has been widely shared on social media. It has already had 36,000 views and around 3,000 comments.

Mr Caplin reportedly denies all allegations against him.

It is believed he was suspended from the Labour Party last year and is said to have denied any wrongdoing. Caplin held two Government posts during his time in office, as assistant Government whip and a junior defence minister and minister for Veterans at the Ministry of Defence.

The former Hove MP represented the constituency between 1997 and 2005. In 2001, he became an assistant Government whip and then a junior defence minister and minister for Veterans at the Ministry of Defence.

That's accurate. They get put in special units in prison, where they can be protected from ordinary criminals. They're absolutely terrified of getting captured by vigilantes on the outside.
Many, many years ago I was in a part of town that is deserted on weekends and I overheard two cops giving a suspected pedo a....stern warning....about staying away from a girl he'd been Grooming. I've never heard such pathetic whining from someone obviously guilty.
They didn't know I was there and I stayed very quiet until they'd left. This was back when the police weren't actively protecting Child Enthusiasts.

We live in a society where this kind of behaviour, in the open, is accepted. Even thirty years ago this openly would have seen a mob after you and it was kept behind closed doors. That anything can look at this and think this is someone with the self control needed to be an effective leader is baffling to me.
When people tell you who they are, listen. The guy is a deviant. He should be nowhere near the levers of power
And don’t let yourself be interviewed under caution - you need a lawyer there and you need to not go voluntarily. Never accept a caution, always be very clear that you will fight them tooth and nail.

I love me a good nonce still video. Unsurprisingly nonce hunters tend to be lolcows but it adds to the entertainment.
 
Lol I gotta wonder if he knew he was going to be meeting up with a 15 year old or if he was told it was a 16 year old he was meeting up with. 16 is the AOC in the UK.

I think they have to walk a fine line between being justly angry at a nonce, like Shane, and just taking the piss and playing up for the cameras, like that unfunny Norf F.C. bloke from Predator Exposure ("We're Prediter Expersyer, und we've joost expersed your fookin' arse!")

Don't get me wrong, a nonce is a nonce, but sometimes, it does just feel like some of these groups are just picking on the local spastics for cheap clout online.

There would be no point in nonce hunters setting him up if they said 16.

They would have clearly said a bunch of times in the chat logs 15.

If they're anything like "pedophile hunters" in the USA they usually fuck up badly and leave out information like that. Like for instance in Massachusetts recently there were "pedophile hunters" who "lured" a "pedophile" to a college date with a ... 18 year old woman and said that she was 18 in the texts to him. (AOC in Mass is 16, incidentally.)

That doesn't mean that I don't think the British Establishment isn't riddled with nonces from top to bottom starting with the King and ending with the local council. It just confuses me that apparently you can't engage in righteous crusade against the Musselman invaders in Great Britain but apparently you can call someone a pedophile? Then again I live in a country that named a warship to "honour" someone who these people would consider a pedophile, Harvey Milk.
