You guys genuinely have a very good understanding of how people here work, I can confirm that cause obviously, I live in this shithole. Not going to lie, a lot of these twitter posters don't actually seem like they know anything about the job market and just how easy it is to get a job with a CS degree from a halfway decent university, especially nowadays where a lot of the screening is done via online coding exercises and later in-person coding interviews.

If you already have 4+ YoE, it's not too hard to find a job as long as you get your name and resume out there. The entry-level job market has completely collapsed though. Especially if you don't have any good industry connections. [COMPANY I WORK AT] doesn't even hire new grads directly anymore, it only pulls in entry-level Americans via an internship pipeline (although we still seem to have many entry-level contractors coming from Chennai).

Also new CS grads seem legitimately more useless than they did ten years ago and I think a big part of that is how many tourists who never had any inclination to work on stuff in their spare time have come into the field. CS grads in 2011 were autismos who'd likely been programming since childhood and probably had built a couple of things on their own, whereas your average CS grad in 2024 has probably never done anything more complex than a toy leetcode program.

This happened at my company last year, but I don't think this really detracts from my point. Once you get an internship you are basically guaranteed a job as well unless you fuck up in a major way during the 9-12 weeks of the internship, I like to think of it as just an application for a grad job 1 or 2 years earlier than would normally have been the case.

Anyone who is proactive in their search for internships and is good at programming will have no problem finding a grad job, these twitter posts always strike me as being written by retards who know nothing about how things work in real life at best, and active disinfo pushers at worst.

I now recall a trend from a few years ago of right-wing e-celebs encouraging young White men to ditch university because it is too "woke" and instead go into the trades where they would allegedly earn more money than university grads. I pity anyone who actually followed their advice.

I burst out laughing when I saw that picture of the blonde woman with the caption "These White Women Prefer Asian Men." And it's true, there are women who prefer Asian guys, there is just ONE teeny weeny problem though. When they mean Asian men, they mean Chinese, Japanese and ESPECIALLY Korean men. To their credit Korean men are like crack to women who are into pretty boys plus from my experience of seeing Korean tourists they're also all very stylish. There's nothing wrong with the trades per-se, but I feel like people, particularly Gen-Z, shifting toward the trades because 'university degrees are useless' is a product of what Jeets and other assorted groups brought upon academia. That is, nothing except a path towards more money. They are useless if the majority of people doing them don't care about the subject.

Beyond that many members of my generation will put very little effort into high school and only get into a shitty college/university and therefore need to jump through hoops in order to improve their situation in that regard. If you're in high school, remember, you can improve your standing through nothing except effort.
