It's probably the latter. He got a bit of an ego, became less humble and objective, and his worst instincts multiplied, especially as his channel blew up from all the Gamergate and Trump drama.

Again, it goes to show how stupid Danny-boy is. I mean, I wasn't that big a JRPG fan during those days, but the fact is, as any capitalist will tell you, competition is good for business. Japanese games making a killing forced western game devs to kick it up a notch to compete. You notice that prior to the JRPG boom of the late 90s, your typical western CRPG sold a couple hundred thousand copies and were mostly bug-ridden piles of crap 99% of the time. Then after the JRPG boom, your typical western RPG became more along the likes of KOTOR, Mass Effect, Oblivion, Jade Empire, Dragon Age, New Vegas, among others, since the competition forced them to improve. As a western RPG fan, as a connoisseur of games like KOTOR, Mass Effect, FO3/FNV, and Oblivion/Skyrim, I appreciate the fact that the JRPG boom forced the western devs to get their butts into gear to work over-time and make good games.

I never figured how a guy like AOS who loved weeb stuff like anime and Japanese games got along with Razorfist, even for a time. Especially since the latter would not shut the fuck up about how he hates those games.

Well, it's been said before, but Dan's problem is he can't dislike something while also acknowledging that it's good. I don't like Sekiro or Black Myth Wukong, or Nioh. But I know that they're good games. There are a ton of good games I don't like because they aren't what I'm interested in or looking for. Danny doesn't have to like a game like Elden Ring, but to say it's a bad game is as close to objectively wrong as you can get on something as subjective as videogames. By pretty much any metric, it's a good game. It's really just an issue of maturity and having to feel like he's right all the time. It's not like he knows what he's talking about. He never researches or plays the games. He just decides he doesn't like it, so that means it's bad. He's got the mentality of a child who sees broccoli on their plate and just decides, "Nu-uh! I won't eat that! Broccoli is gross!" Maybe that's why Diddler Danny likes them so young.
