Crime Neil Gaiman Accused of Sexual Assault, Author Denies Allegations

Acclaimed author Neil Gaiman is facing multiple allegations of sexual assault, making him the subject of a police complaint in New Zealand. Gaiman has offered a response as well, refuting the accusations.

Per Tortoise Media, two women have accused Gaiman of sexual assault while in consensual relationships with the author. The allegations go back two decades, but they were first reported on in Tortoise's podcast Master: the allegations against Neil Gaiman, which was released on Wednesday. The women describe allegations of "rough and degrading sex," alleging that these instances were not always consensual.

One of the two accusers, a 23-year-old woman named Scarlett, claims she was sexually assaulted in February 2022 just hours after first meeting Gaiman. According to Scarlett, the assault happened in a bath at Gaiman's New Zealand home where she was hired to work as a nanny for his child. Gaiman says that the two merely "cuddled" and "made out" that day, adding that a three-week sexual relationship ensued, but was entirely consensual. Scarlett insists that Gaiman was "rough and degrading," and reportedly, messages, notes, and accounts from friends support her allegations.

Another accuser, identifying herself as K, says she was an 18-year-old fan when she first met Gaiman at a book signing in Sarasota, Florida, in 2003. K claims that she began a romantic relationship with Gaiman after she turned 20, resulting in engaging in rough sex that she "neither wanted nor enjoyed." It's alleged that one particular incident saw Gaimain forcefully penetrating K despite her objections.

Gaiman has denied this claim as well. The Sandman author maintains that his relationship with K was never unlawful and that he's "disturbed" to be accused of such behavior. According to Gaiman, K's allegations stem from "regret" over the relationship she had when it was over. He also attributed Scarlett's allegations to a condition she has that's associated with false memories, but the Tortoise report noted that this isn't supported by the accuser's medical records.

Additionally, Gaiman has strongly denied all allegations of non-consensual sex at any time with the women accusing him of sexual assault. He also claimed that New Zealand police ignored his offer for assistance with one woman's complaint in 2022, suggesting that shows a lack of substance in the investigation. New Zealand officers have responded by saying they made a "number of attempts to speak to key people as part of this investigation and those efforts remain ongoing." It was added that there are "a number of factors to take into consideration with this case, including location of all parties.”

Gaiman has long been one of pop culture's most revered authors, bringing to life acclaimed stories like The Sandman, Good Omens, and American Gods. Just recently, Netflix has been promoting the upcoming second season of The Sandman, which is based on Gaiman's source material; he also executive produces the series.

Honestly while Gaiman was not on the top of my "insufferable and terminally overhyped geek culture retards I cant wait to get outed as sex predators for my own amusement" list (currently being topped by Wil Wheaton followed by Alan Moore) I cannot deny feeling that little bit jollier with the thought I may never have to hear him mentioned again

but what the fuck are a wealthy celebrity couple doing hiring a young mentally ill homeless woman to watch their baby? why would they do that?

They would not. If people like that with money need someone on short notice, there is a whole system to help them solve problems like that. The reason you specially hire the mentally ill BPD babysitter is to serve other needs. If you specially hire someone who really needs the money and is practically speaking disposable when its over, it kind of has "sleazy guy" marks all over it. The whole extended story of how she was selected and hired and everything about her just points to something really wrong.

I absolutely loathe the idea that he deliberately cultivated that friendship with Tori - my god, he's Tash's godfather - as camouflage for his predation, to make him seem like a safe and understanding person who would never sexually abuse women. I loathe it. And yet it is the most fucking plausible explanation and that makes me fucking MATI.
Yeah victims of abuse never repeat the cycle by abusing others, either willingly or unknowingly. Even more so when they write albums called "Abnormally Attracted to Sin".
the tone of the story actually reminds me of the way the one about that street shitter unfunny little creep, aziz ansari.
Aziz is a total faggot, but the story makes sense when you realize they leave out the 8 ball of coke they did

I don't think he has too much to fear legally, or about his career in the long term, but no matter what happens next, his days of Uncle Neil interacting with his adoring internet audience, dispensing self-important current-year-approved diatribes all day, every day, and reaping asspats in return are over. And that's what I feel will really affect him.
Are you kidding? Have you read the allegations? The guy is a disgusting sadist of the worst kind and involves his kid.
He will lose his publisher, his work won't be published or adapted anymore, he won't be invited to awards, podcasts, red carpets, his friends will shun him, even doing groceries will be awkward for him, as there's always the possibility that somebody will know him and say something.

His name will be synonymous with infamy and any new declination of his work would be met with controversy. Many people will trash or donate the ones of his books they have in their collections. Nerds will stop bothering you to read Sandman, Fujoshis may finally shut their yap about Good Omens.

Unfortunately, he is rich, so he can still live comfortably, and any money from the work he already did will still flow to him. Coraline re-run on tv, those residuals are going in his pocket.
That plus his Scientology connections he will find a new scene to haunt. But his only relevant oeuvre from now one will be his legal battle with the army of women he wronged.

plus his Scientology connections
He's not affiliated with Scientology anymore. His Dad was labeled an SP (Suppressive Person) when Miscavige took over. I do think that growing up a Scientologist has to fuck with you, but that church cult isn't gonna offer him any help, financial or otherwise.

All the incidents with Scarlett Pavlovitch were while she was a live in nanny who was stuck there, didn't have any friends or money to move out until later. Amanda Palmer deliberately sought her out while she was either homeless or at risk of becoming and was having a mental health crisis.

The mental health issues will make her be / seem not very reliable whether she's telling the truth or not, but what the fuck are a wealthy celebrity couple doing hiring a young mentally ill homeless woman to watch their baby? why would they do that?
I'm not in a hurry to defend a """dark fantasy""" comic book writer. He was obviously a sex pest who took advantage of his wealth and authority to be a degenerate. I still think the situation exploded, similar to projarad being in an "open relationship" and encouraging fans to send him sexually explicit pictures to his Tumblr account eventually turning into a false story of him exchanging pictures with minors. When celebrities/youtubers arrange these degenerate situations, they're outright begging for a scandal of this magnitude.

I don't doubt that he was seeking out BPD women to have sex with under very questionable circumstances. I'm wondering, if he is raping the nannies, how many times can they reasonably come back? After the first or second time, or maybe even the tenth time, it's either a form of prostitution or some fucked up consensual sexual relationship between them. She was also 22 when they met, which gives her some more agency.

This is just a theory. A rape theory

I don't know where that rumor comes from but that doesn't seems to be true AT ALL. Both His sisters are involved in the Church. He went to record to say he respects and feels some kind of kinship to his sister's religion

Per The New Yorker in 2010

The pivotal fact of Gaiman’s childhood is one that appears nowhere in his fiction and is periodically removed from his Wikipedia page by the site’s editors. When he was five, his family moved to East Grinstead, the center of English Scientology, where his parents began taking Dianetics classes. His father, a real-estate developer, and his mother, a pharmacist, founded a vitamin shop, G & G Foods, which is still operational. (According to its Web site, it supplies the Human Detoxification Programme, a course of vitamins, supplements, and other alleged purification techniques, which Scientology offers at disaster sites like Chernobyl and Ground Zero.) In the seventies, his father, who died last year, began working in Scientology’s public-relations wing and over time rose high in the organization. Gaiman has two younger sisters, both still active in Scientology; one of them works for the church in Los Angeles, and the other helps run the family businesses.

At times, Scientology proved awkward for the Gaiman children. According to Lizzy Calcioli, the sister who stayed in England, “Most of our social activities were involved with Scientology or our Jewish family. It would get very confusing when people would ask my religion as a kid. I’d say, ‘I’m a Jewish Scientologist.’ ” Gaiman says that he was blocked from entering a boys’ school because of his father’s position and had to remain at the school he’d been attending, the only boy left in a classroom full of girls. These days, Gaiman tends to avoid questions about his faith, but says he is not a Scientologist. Like Judaism, Scientology is the religion of his family, and he feels some solidarity with them. “I will stand with groups when I feel like they’re being properly persecuted,” he told me.

How could it be more Obvious as an exist strategy for him. Powerfull, opaque cultish organization? Great place to be protected from the consequences of your degeneracy.

Also the next paragraph is pretty fun in insight

Having been brought up in two traditions, Gaiman is flexible in his devotions. “I’m terribly good at believing things, but I’m really good at believing things when I need them,” he said. “Which in my case tends to be if I’m writing about them.” If he had not been a writer, he says, he would have wanted to design religions. “I’d have a little shop, and people would phone up or come into the shop and they’d say, ‘I’d like a religion,’

He went on to create a cult of personality around himself and did as religions do: make the believers act against their best interests.

A lot of the other incidents take place over multiple visits to his dungeon. I'm not one to ever question Herstory, but why do they come back? Are there any women here willing to explain this behavior?
Because he’s a millionaire and if he’d left his wife for her she‘d be thinking back fondly on how they met.

I looked into this and apparently David was declared an SP (interesting reason why--see below), but remained a devoted Scientologist and paid his way back into their good graces.

In 1983 David was declared a ‘Suppressive Person’ by Scientology and officially stripped of all his ranks and privileges in the Church due to his ‘Running the canteen for his own profit, using Scientology to push and promote his own G&G Vitamins business’ and “Sexual or Sexually perverted conduct contrary to the well being or good state of mind of a Scientologist in good standing or under the charge of Scientology such as a student, a pre-clear, a ward or a patient.”. While Neil and the rest of the Gaimans remained devoted to the Cult, David had to spend the next 20 years retaking and repaying for every course and training he had already done up to that point. Neil’s mother Sheila went on to introduce the highly dangerous and much criticised Scientology anti-drugs programme ‘Narconon’ to the UK in the eighties, and with David built their Vitamin Company G&G foods in to a multi-million pound business plying their wares at the Chernobyl and 911 disaster sites.
From this post by Mike Rinder (archive)

Also, according to this article he had a massive memorial service at Saint Hill Manor (still the British headquarters of Scientology) after he died, with pupils of a Scientology school in attendance--were he still an SP that would never have happened. Not to mention he and his wife were still married when he died.

It's fascinating that this man wrote for so many years about women being enslaved and raped and it was interpreted as him being empathetic towards women. What the fuck, fellow women?
I had no idea his books contained gigarape, but this just confirms that Gail Simone was a worthless grifter all along. She's buddy-buddy with Rapeman.

If The Killing Joke's rated PG-13 content, just violence against a female character, was worth going to internet war over, how is a rated X plot centered around rape completely acceptable? She always seemed disingenuous to me, but seeing this level of hypocrisy is disgusting. The worst part is how many shitheads in the industry had read both and still promoted her dumb dishonest shit.

|:((At the time this went down, the only way to read his comics was to mail order a $20 graphic novel, or maybe flip through a random middle number volume at a bookstore. So the average reader might not know what's in a $20 volume from 15 years before that.)

I have good news - I don’t think he actually had a great deal to do with that movie.

The book of the same name is very different (and much shitter).
I only know Gaiman for two things, the movie adaptation of Coraline & the Batman comic "Whatever Happened To The Cape Crusader." I think I'll be able to fondly disregard Gaiman's name on both because one is a children's story and the other is an extremely well done "multiverse" style story before that became cliche. The latter especially just feels like it's a celebration of all things Batman, it's just a comic that gets how endearing Batman stories really are with how they can go from pure absurd humor to a dark fantasy noir and yet it all feels like "Batman."

Terrible people can make great work, Norman Mailer murdered his wife. I think most of Gaiman's work should survive "Death of the Author" because I surely doubt they're telling the reader that women just need to shove a buttered dick up their ass as they're screaming no. With that said I don't want to have my dollars benefit Gaiman so I'll wait for the literal Death of the Author or buy used.

He's not affiliated with Scientology anymore. His Dad was labeled an SP (Suppressive Person) when Miscavige took over. I do think that growing up a Scientologist has to fuck with you, but that church cult isn't gonna offer him any help, financial or otherwise.

His wife Mary McGrath up until 2007 was (and is) an active scientologist. Being married to her and given her attitudes, there is no way that he did not have an association with Scientology at least up to 2007. There are people who seem to believe that he could be married to her and not have any link to scientology, not be donating vast sums of money to it and be completely separate from it. Those people are delusional. That isn''t how it works. He may not have been interested personally in it, but up until 2007 there is just no way he could be living a life totally seperate from it.

He also didn't just grow up as a random scientologist. His father was right near the top of everything until he was declared an SP in 1983. Gaiman was raised as Scientology royalty. His father was one of the worst people in it in his era. His father was head of the UK, in the Guardians Office and on the Watchdog committee. It was Hubbard who took him down with the SP declare. People like to blame Miscaviage, but Hubbard organized everything that happened in 1983 himself.

Its not possible to say he is an agent of the church or working hard for the church or that his problems have anything to do with scientology. But I personally think his childhood would have been extremely strange given who he was and that up to 2007 he was never as detached from it as he tended to indicate.

Same as the drug-addicted trainwreck actors in the 90s who grew up in Children of God, or the rapist from the Duggar family TV show
well thats a complete lie, i assumed that it was like you described meanwhile its closer to if we found out Neil Gaiman is a stage name for Hunter Biden. Like Neil was born and presumably raised similar to Kim Jong Un, his parents were the top dogs of a major religion and probably was having grown adults call him "master" at the age of 5, or at the very least being told not to refer to his servants as "slaves" at that age.

Only his dad went down in the early 1980s, but Neil based on his wife and kids, was still deeply involved in the church, for fucks sake his production company's mailing address is still a scientology center. He's not an unwilling victim so much as a crown prince. like the notorious pills every scientologist buys for purification puts money in Neil's pocket. Literally go to your local center, you can buy something that will mean a couple dollars for Mr. Gaiman.

Its like hearing someone's parents were involved in the aviation industry, you'd assume maybe their parents were baggage handlers or flight attendants then you find out the guy's last name is Boeing.
No idea where he is now, though.
so Gaiman has a son with his scientologist wife who worked in california in 2007,
but both Gaiman and Palmer are rich as fuck.
palmer is a greedy bitch, but also way poorer than Neil. she even had to move back in with her parents because she ran out of money fighting the divorce.
Tom King and Bendis.
i'd vote Bendis over King, i know the government is shit now, but they were at their peak before 9/11 when King got his TS/SCI, mind you it doesn't stop him from turning into a rapist in the last quarter century, it just seems very unlikely that that suddenly emerges and wasn't caught by the feds.

I wish someone in government had some real balls, and took a look at scientology again (even if for their tax exempt status). All the while, scientology is buying up more and more real estate across America to fill up their coffers. Its kind of alarming with how much land they are technically buying, with little to no function/service to show for it.

IDK what it is, but there's obviously a real link between being considered high up in scientology and also being associated with sexual assault. Is it just a power thing? My personal conspiracy is that members are encouraged/manipulated into committing a crime like this, so little man David M has kompromot, in case they try to leave. The best thing Leah remini ever did was leave before they could really sink their fangs in her.

Alright, hear me out, even if you think my theory is absolutely retarded you should be able to follow my train of thought. These are almost all from the original accusation from Pavlovich's point of view, so I believe they should be most favorable to her.

The article describes Pavlovich as homeless, estranged from family, and staying with friends. But it also stated she traveled all across Europe and other continents. It is possible she funded her travel by meeting up with men who would keep her and pay for her time, making her a sort of prostitute.

On the surface, Pavlovich appeared to be self-assured as well. A local girl, she had dropped out of high school at 15 to travel to Europe, Morocco, and the Middle East on the cheap, pausing in Scotland — where Tilda Swinton gave her a scholarship to attend her Steiner school, Drumduan — and London to work in the cabaret scene.
Palmer is the ex-wife of Neil Gaiman. She met Pavlovich by chance, saw she was a fan, and decided to establish contact with her.
It was Pavlovich who approached Palmer on the sidewalk outside the perfumery. She was surprised when Palmer texted her a few days later. “It’s amanda d palmer,” she wrote. “Your new friend.”

Tragon Dirtle makes a good point. Why would they choose to invite an on-and-off homeless woman with severe mental issues to stay at their house and be their babysitter? Everyone knows that Gaiman's intention for hiring her as a babysitter would be to get bob and vagine, but it actually was his ex-wife, Palmer, that recruited the girl and hired her as the babysitter so she could get more bob and vagine. At this point, Palmer and Pavlovich were already in a sexual relationship.
In November 2020, Palmer invited her to hang out at her place for a weekend with a group of local artists. At the gathering, Palmer asked Pavlovich to babysit while she got a massage. Early the next morning, Pavlovich wrote a diary entry about the easy intimacy she’d felt in Palmer’s sun-drenched home, where she’d read to Palmer’s son, who was 5 at the time, their limbs entwined. “The years absent of touch build up like a gray inheritance,” she wrote. “I’m hungry. I am so fucking famished.”

I'm not just making this up, either. Palmer has a history of sleeping with her fans, and Pavlovich stated she was a huge fan of Palmer and had a crush on her.
In 2012, Palmer met a 20-year-old fan, who has asked to be referred to as Rachel, at a Dresden Dolls concert. After one of Palmer’s next shows, the women had sex.
She had a crush on Palmer. She didn’t mind that Palmer only occasionally discussed paying her, even though Pavlovich was always strapped for cash.
So, we know both Gaiman and his ex-wife have sex with random fans. We know Palmer was likely in a relationship with the "babysitter" that she met and brought to her home. This would also explain why Pavlovich was so willing to go to the outdoor haunted bathtub when pushed by Gaiman.

Afterward, Pavlovich crouched down in the water and tried to clean herself off. Gaiman looked at her and smiled. “‘Amanda told me I couldn’t have you,’” Pavlovich recalls him saying. As soon as he’d heard this, he “knew he had to have” her. “‘God,’” he continued, “‘I wish it were the good old days where we could both fuck you.’”
The above statement after the bathtub incident was alleged by Pavlovich, but it accurately fits the other information we know so I believe it. The line "Amanda told me I couldn’t have you" is particularly notable because it even more strongly implies Palmer and Pavlovich are in a relationship, and she is aware of Gaiman's behavior. “‘I wish it were the good old days where we could both fuck you.’” is extremely important, and outright states that they used to both share """babysitters""". Together they provide important context to the type of relationship Gaiman and his ex-wife had, and explains why she would bring attractive women to the house knowing Gaiman is a sex pest.

This next section alleges Palmer knows Gaiman has done this fourteen times before. It would make more sense that it's part of the routine of bringing young women to their house that both Gaiman and Palmer are attracted to.
She told Palmer about the bath. “I didn’t have any choice in the matter,” she said. “He just did it.” She said he had been having sex with her ever since. She withheld some of the most brutal details and did not describe her experience as sexual assault; she didn’t yet see it that way.
Palmer did not appear to be surprised. “Fourteen women have come to me about this,” she said. She mentioned that Gaiman had slept with another babysitter during his first marriage, and that she’d heard from other women who were disturbed by their experiences with him. Pavlovich waited until the end to tell Palmer about the child being present in Auckland. Afterward, she recalled, Palmer was silent. She appeared shocked.

So based off this, it's likely the ex-wife, Palmer, regularly brings women for her and Gaiman to share. While Pavlovich was obviously interested in Palmer, I doubt she had much interest in Gaiman's sex dungeon or BDSM, but had to put up with it. She seemed to outright hate him, but it would explain why she kept coming back to the house after each alleged sexual assault or rape. She certainly did not want to have a sexual relationship with Gaiman, but she was treated like a prostitute by both him and his ex-wife.

Eventually Pavlovich becomes too much of a liability and they cut her off. It's pretty obvious she has BPD, so I feel sorry for her. Palmer had to talk her down from suicide at least once, and Pavlovich blames herself for her parents divorce. Also those batshit insane selfies after each alleged rape or emotional trauma are the wildest thing I've seen in a long time.
Pavlovich grew suicidal. She hoarded zopiclone and aspirin and walked around the city surveying bridges. She decided she’d take the pills and told Palmer about her plan. At Palmer’s urging, she checked into an emergency room. “You are loved,” Palmer texted. After a few days in a respite center, feeling slightly better, Pavlovich reached out to Palmer to ask if she could resume working as the child’s nanny. The apartment Palmer had set her up with was temporary, and she needed a place to stay. “It would be really good for me I think to have something to do and people to be around,” she wrote. Palmer argued that it was not the time for her to take on the responsibility of caring for a child. “Your job is to care for you,” she replied. She proposed they get together when Pavlovich got out, promising to help her get back on her feet, and suggested in the meantime she go home to her parents. This infuriated Pavlovich. “There is a reason I have divorced my parents,” she wrote. “I’m starting to feel very much on my own and like I hate everyone.”
“I can’t offer you exactly what you want from me,” Palmer wrote, “but i can still be here. remember this.”
“Babe I am more alone than I’ve ever been in my life,” Pavlovich replied. She wished she’d never agreed to be their nanny: “If I hadn’t gotten on that first ferry I wouldn’t be where I am now.”
(Do you call a random woman babe if you're not in a relationship with her?)

Gaiman and Palmer discussed paying her off, had her sign an NDA, and sent her away. I believe at this point Pavlovich was mad at the relationship with ending Palmer, and still outright disgusted by the Gaiman sex dungeon, she decided to turn on the group.

In January 2023, Pavlovich filed a police report accusing Gaiman of sexual assault. At the station, she gave a formal interview about the case. After she told the officers her story, one of them told her that Palmer’s cooperation would be essential for the case to move forward. Pavlovich assured them Palmer would participate. “I said to them, ‘She’s a public feminist, and she knows what happened. She’ll want to protect me. I’m sure she’ll speak.’”
When the police contacted Palmer later that year, she declined to talk with them.
Palmer declined talk to the police after this, which I don't think is to protect her ex-husband, but because she is implicated in his degenerate fantasy author sex dungeon.

Here's my TLDR if you don't want to read this wall of text explanation
  • Gaiman and his ex-wife, Palmer, are both degenerates
  • Palmer is bisexual and recruits young women for Gaiman and her to share
  • She begins a sexual relationship with Pavlovich
  • Palmer brings Pavlovich to the house as a prostitute under the guise of a babysitter
  • Gaiman pushes her to engage in his degenerate sex dungeon roleplay
  • Pavlovich hates this, but agrees to continue working with Palmer
  • She eventually breaks and Palmer and Gaiman throw her out
  • Pavlovich declares every sexual encounter with Gaiman was rape

I'm not sure where you're getting the idea that she was a prostitute before she met them from?
She's an attractive young woman who is estranged from her family and has no money, and is technically homeless, but she has the ability to travel to dozens of countries across the world. The most likely explanation is rich men flying her around and paying her money for her time.

I think the encounters had to be rape though, you just don't do those things voluntarily especially in front of a child
Most women who engage in prostitution were sexually abused (like Pavlovich was at 15) and don't actually want to do those things. That's why they're paid in money, trips, hotels, access to luxury houses, or sometimes attention from a famous celebrity.

If the Auckland hotel story is true, that's something else entirely, but you don't get raped 6 times, go to a hotel, get raped again, and then repeatedly travel to the rapist to get raped over and over again. Or do you? I don't know, maybe that's a BPD thing.

I'll note that Amanda Palmer in particular is big into "voluntary labor" where you just ask whoever is there to do whatever you need done for cheap or even free.
She got into trouble for this in the past when she would ask fans to perform music during her concerts without compensation. Obviously, if you're Neil Gaiman's millionare wife, that strikes the wrong cord.
She made a whole Ted talk on this.
So picking a random homeless drifter to be her babysitter is kind of expected for her.

Because there’s is a campaign to cancel Alan Moore every few years by talentless hacks because he’d said something a slightly based but he’s so talented that he can release Victorian themed loli porn and survive.

These same people will have known about Neil Gaiman all the time, but because he constantly says the right thing all the time they don’t care about what he does to women.
