I don't think anyone supports him but I think people are willing to use him for their own ends. The lawyers that handled the appeal did just that. And I'm betting someone tried to do it by turning a minor fee into a financial audit of the farms also was doing that- I don't see russ coming up with that on his own. Who knows what else. Funny because, in the end, since he just fucks it up anyway, any 'help' he has received will just end up costing him more.
The biggest risk trying to use a cow as a weapon is it will eventually turn on you. If Russ was coached, he'll eventually tell on his coacher.
DMCA (in the context of this case) isn't a cause of action on its own, it's a safe harbor provision carving out an area of immunity for ISPs if they do a silly kabuki dance of notification/counter notification. If the original alleged infringement was not in fact an infringement, it doesn't become one because the ISP ignored a DMCA notification. If contributory or other vicarious infringement is alleged, the plaintiff still has to prove why it applies.
If Fong Dong brings enough legal firepower that a huge amount has to be spent to defeat him, then he'll have a much larger bill to pay than Russ will.

That was such a retarded longshot, that just seems like a Greer move to add extra pressure to me. An audit would've never happened, if those fees would've ever jeopardized anything significant, then they could've just been paid. At worst it's a couple hundred dollars of damage.

As soon as those lawyers took on his appeal, Russ started attempting to get them involved in his AGT bullshit, without telling them. Or them agreeing to it. No good deed or act of self interest that involves Russ goes unpunished.
He knows he has plenty to lose, which is why he's always acting through third parties and having them do the actually criminal shit.
He could've politely dropped the case, taken our advice, and become a functioning member of society, all while having enough money to see the working women of Nevada. He might've been able to get a "no harm no foul" back when Based Skordas was representing Josh. His continuing antagonism has hardened everyone involved to the point that neither Josh nor us care how broke or homeless he is: Josh will extract what is owed. Not only will pulling Russell's financial teeth out his metaphorical ass be satisfying for us to watch, it'll serve as a warning to anyone else who wants to sue us: Josh will meet you in court, he will beat you, and you'll be forced to pay him for the privilege.
