Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

Anybody watch that SpawnWave faggot? He is the biggest shameless leaks shill around. He talks about leaks like they're official announcements, he's acting certain Switch 2's reveal will be given an update by Nintendo today. I kinda hope not just so his audience destroys him.
Lot of press is saying that there will be a Switch 2 reveal tomorrow (16th):

I used to, I think I gave up in him when he would disassemble stuff solely to replace thermal paste.

I can appreciate the hustle this is a once in a decade opportunity to ride these daily rumours for youtube money.

Switch 2 has been in a perpetual state of being revealed since 2019 according to people like SpawnWave.

I did some ChatGPT research comparing a 4-core A57 vs. an 8-core A78 for gaming, and yeah, this would actually be a dramatic improvement even with the same clock speeds. A 20-25% improvement for per-core performance, with double the cores, plus better energy efficiency and a bunch of other more specific improvements could result in 4x performance or more. Take that with a grain of salt, but it’s definitely reassuring.

I think SpawnWave looks like the world's biggest beta and hate how built for monetization his channel is, I "do not reccomend"ed him years ago.

Anyways, if its leaks you want, how about the history of Nintendo's aborted Switch Virtual Console?

Notably, they talk about why it is that they needed to start from scratch each system, customers not liking having to re-buy games and that being part of the switch from VC to NSO. So I guess that answers one of this thread's long-term whine topics.

Sorry that was tl;dr so I know this is a dumb question, but: couldn't they just not make you do that?
They actually had to re-test each game before adding it to the service under the VC format so no, because not every title would be there at launch and, presumably, they also didn't have a way to link Wii accounts to Switch ones. With NSO they avoid the issue by removing the ability to buy games entirely and since the current emulators are pre-planned to survive the Switch the re-test issue will also hopefully have gone away.

I wouldn't be surprised. It's a good time to announce it. Certainly before the end of the month.

He's definitely a soyboy, I'd be surprised if I checked his Twitter and he didn't have pronouns in it. He at least keeps overt politics out of the show as far as I can tell, but you can parse his views by what he talks about and how he talks about it.

I hope Nintendo introduces the option to buy games though. No reason not to have both options. I'd probably have spent more that way if they had a bigger selection.

A 20-25% improvement for per-core performance
I think it's way higher than that.

Wikipedia seems to have copied a lot of ARM's misleading marketing material, so you have to dig in at each generation.
A72 = "16-30% increase on IPC"
A73 = +10% (this generation was known to suck and had some performance regressions)
A75 = +16-48% (+22% SPECINT2006)
A76 = +25-35% (+32% max normalized for clock speed)
A77 = +20%
A78 = +20%

There's all sorts of caveats when looking at IPC estimates but we don't care. I'll just do 1.2*1.1*1.22*1.25*1.2*1.2 = ~2.9x. Lower than the 5x I came up with earlier, but still a big jump. I would be surprised if clock speeds didn't go up, and I guess there will be double the cores although don't be surprised if it ends up quad-core (Switch 1 uses an 8-core die but disables the 4x A53 cores).

I think A78 cores are kind of similar in performance to Zen 2 cores found in the Xbox Series, PS5, and Steam Deck. Steam Deck would clock higher, but only has 4 cores, 8 threads. This is enough for many games.

I don't think there are any legitimate Nintendo leakers. Just a bunch of attention whores making guesses hoping to get it right for the internet clout.

Ain't no way it's announced and released within less than 2 months.
It seems that the average time between announcement and release for consoles is about 6 months.
An argument I could see for it being shorter for the Switch 2 is that Nintendo intends to keep it around for much longer than most consoles like they did with the Switch, so they are less concerned with marketing before release.

Le rumors: Switch 2 could have launched in 2023-2024, the SoC was ready to go (Nvidia Ampere on Samsung 8nm GPUs first appeared in September 2020), but Nintendo sat on it to sell off more of Switch 1. And I don't see why they can't announce and release over 2 months. Nvidia announced the RTX 5090/5080 at the beginning of January to release them at the end of January, for example.

Dodging Christmas 2024 and launching in March would ensure more supply is available by Christmas 2025. Also, Switch 1 launched in March 2017, so predicting March is common.

Wasn't there supposed to be a reveal today??... looks like the crystal ball failed yet again.

I want to emulate Switch 2 on Steam Deck 2 in the year 2030.
