Hi, yet another goon refugee here.

Read the place since the early days and didn't get an account till around 2004 or so. The cat ladies had just came in around that point but really hadn't cracked down like the eventually did so I wasn't too worried at first. I mean I knew fucking with the taxman or the mods was pretty much your ass and that silly shit could get you in trouble, least if you weren't funny about it.

I can't put my finger on exactly when but I remember it getting less and less like it was in the early days until things just got to the point where it was kinda like it is now, maybe even worse but then the Halloween thing happened that one year (2013 or 2014 I think it was?) and things were changed being a little bit more lenient rules wise and the cat ladies were sent packing.

Then, then ralp came.

SS has a bit of shit on ralp, hell you guys probably do too and I just haven't seen it yet. From what I recall he was connected to Ozma in some fashion and in the early days his name was actually just "rape". Not sure on that stuff but the story was there was a conversation had and he changed his name to ralp. Well anywho that twerp was when things took a real sharp downturn, he'd move threads all over the place for "not being in the right forum" mostly just to kill threads with stuff he didn't like in them. Unfavorable political opinions in GBS? Move it to D&D and let them mod every post in it from way before it even got moved. Gamergate talk? Needs to be in games, where it was a banned subject long before it was forum wide. Pretty much if it was controversial and ralp didn't like it shit would get moved to a place to kill it quicker than Fox will a successful fantasy or scifi show.

The incident that sticks out in my mind is me reminding him of how the site was in the early days and basically being told I was full of shit about it. For all the talk of gaslighting and shit like that in the SJW community it sure seems like they do it awful lot more than anybody else I've seen. Seems like we all member here though, wonder why he don't memeber?

I saw FAU's rise to power a well, when I discovered he basically had taken ralp's place I knew we were in for a bad time. Hell I wonder sometimes if it's not the same person but I've never been one to dig like that too much. I'd just ventured into imp zone a few times and almost kinda liked him for a second till I realized what an ass he was. As many people have stated he'll be all "let's talk about stuff" until it's proven he's full of shit or whatever, he'll loop his logic a few times then eventually probate or ban the person for mod sass and such. Which was totally how ralp worked as well.

Lowtax and LA need to stand up and take that shit back, they probably have a lot more support than the realize even if they are huge fuckups themselves. I sometimes wonder if they don't just have some dirt on them and that's why this whole thing has kept on going as long as it has as well. That just seems a bit more far-fetched though, the case of the just not giving a fucks is most likely the answer.

As for the synirc stuff, I dunno what goes on outside of the gbs chat pretty much it use to be pretty cool but a lot of the same type of stuff kinda crept in there as well but nowhere near as badly. It's still pretty much the same other than the different cliques and stuff. Though windows98 has been poking around again after getting ran out a few months back. Most the troons I've seen come through there weren't horrible either, there were and are some pain in the ass types that came though.

I guess I'm hanging out here a little now, like people have said SS, while amusing and has some decent info was a bit too 14/88'y for me. Also you guys seem to have better jokes.

Sorry if this is getting old, but count me in as another refugee. Though I've been lurking here a bit. I was around before the whole damn thing went paywall and still remember the times of 'your poisoned womb made heaven too fucking crowded', Radium and Groverhaus. I used to post in a lot of the forums, but it gradually started getting boring because funny threads were just getting shut down constantly and saying what you thought or even mild humor got you banned/probated in most forums. I gravitated towards the more shit-post type of threads where people didn't care all that much, where moderation was light and posted in the last few good Hellthreads. That didn't last long.

I eventually ate a 100k probation thanks to wrong-think from a mod. Sadly, I can't even say I went out in a blaze of glory or was even mildly offensive. It was because I rubbed people the wrong way with my shitposting. Hellthread was beautiful, but holy shit that thread just existing chafed so many people. You could have made it invisible, had all the hellhtreaders only post in it, and people would have still whined. I thought about re-registering or protesting it, but I just realized I'd have to deal with the same shit over and over again. It wasn't all that appealing of a proposition. And now things are getting even more restrictive, which I find kind of hilarious since I didn't think that was possible.

What ended up happening to the hellthread? It was pretty funny but I didn't catch it's ultimate fate. Let me guess, FAU/ZDR with his faggot clique of imps and sad fyad washouts shitting up the last few pages until it gets gassed + verboten?

That's what I never got, who gives a fuck how shitty a single thread is? If it's bad it'll die on it's own and just trying to mod it out leads it popping up ten-fold until you just ban everyone (i.e. doobster, fat people, etc). Star Citizen sub was a trainwreck but it was a self contained trainwreck you'd have to purposely seek to be mad at it, and good ol' Derek was kind of endearing in an old ancient autistic dinosaur sort of way.

Ralp didn't like it so he defied lowtax and got away with it. This is a reoccurring theme in the forums and lowtax's life.

Guessing you two are some of my old hell thread faves. Sucks ass what ralp's little punk ass did to you just cause you could rationally explain why some of the people being discussed were in fact, kinda bad people and that saying it about them didn't mean you meant it about all trans folks and stuff like that. One of the hellthreads is where my story about ralp basically gaslighting (god I hate that term but it's pretty much what it was) some shit from SA's past popped up.

Plus everybody was civil til the usual suspects showed up.
 
If one more autistic goons comes in here and suggests that hellthread was for serious posting I'm going to track down tezzor and invite him here to argue with you about ethics in games journalism.

And cool, there's so much shit that went on. Also hellthread was not really for serious posting, it was all about fun shitposting. It was great.

You wouldn't believe how many peopled bitched and moaned about it in completely different forums. I think QCS and PYF were the biggest offenders, I never really paid attention. We'd get D&D and some serious posters from time to time. There were a few people who tried to kill it by spamming it/insulting us/trying to argue with us, but they just ended up losing their minds and having massive meltdowns in the thread. Trezzor was one of the only constant opponents who stuck around, and he was already fucking insane, so there were no breakdowns to be had.

Hellthread was typically resilient (until the mods basically realized that Lowtax was in a coma and didn't give a shit) but it did get moved around a lot. It got moved to D&D. I stopped shitposting and did serious posting (following the D&D rules) to spite Ralp as well as keep it alive. That was when I learned how hilariously bad D&D goons are at actually arguing their points, even in the face of multiple sources of hard evidence. When moving Hellthread to D&D didn't work, it got moved back to GBS and around and around. It wouldn't die and it was hilarious. It then got moved to Cool Crew Chat central which has like 3 threads. It still didn't die and that was when Ralp handed over authority to some humorless catlady, don't remember her name, but it only lasted a few days anyway. She was going to give out nebulous 'rules' but they didn't materialize.

Ralp came back and got so butthurt his wicked moves couldn't kill the thread (along with any number of posters infiltrating it, trying to do it for him but laughably failing) he just resorted to banning posters, giving out probations and gassing the thread in true humorless cunt fashion. I do love that he failed on every level and had to resort to the most heavy handed, scorched earth tactics to rid the forums of it. It couldn't be killed, because it was kept alive by pure spite, so they just got rid of most of the people. And more money and revenue were thus lost to the sands of time.

There were other iterations I believe, but they lasted only a short while and were basically honeypots to ban/probate 'problematic' posters.

You can probably work out who I am. I noticed a couple of people called for me back after I ate the 100k (because I didn't violate any rules, just a mod didn't like my comments), but it was on deaf ears like most of the on SA. But yeah, Ralp didn't like or understand my reasoning. He was all around too fucking stupid and autistic to actually interpret what I was saying. And yup, it was. I think that's what bothered people the most about it, that the thread was entirely civil which is why it wasn't outright gassed until the very end.

The hellthread died several deaths, but the last incarnation started in January 2016 when there was a GBS thread about Milo losing his Twitter verification. It got moved to Cool Crew Chat Central, a subforum for chat threads. ZDR was actually pretty cool with it- he even posted there to tell people that he banned Sarah Nyberg. Ralp was still technically in charge, though, and he gave me some really arbitrary probations (a week for posting the transcripts that showed that Wu never graduated college).

Then FluffieDuckie got appointed BYOB mod and gassed the thread within a day. Losing the hellthread has had more of an effect on my mental health than I would like to admit.

And no, pretty much no one in any hellthread past the first few months of the tire fire was actually pro-GG. One poster even said that he really liked Anita but couldn't stand the fact that Wu and Zoe actually got interviews from legitimate outlets. It's almost like you can have nuanced views on these kinds of things!

And while a few subforums have rules against posting about GG, there's nothing forums-wide and nothing in GBS. That didn't stop the mods from probating people over rules that didn't exist, though- even though they could have added a new rule in two minutes. It makes less sense the more I think about it.
 
Has the doxing stopped? Admittedly I only skimmed the last day's worth of thread but I don't see much happening anymore.

edit: Believe it or not, Hellthread died at the hands of the BYOB mod, who I believe was FluffyDuckie. Thread moved to BYOB when the previous forum's mod "didn't want to deal with it anymore." Then it got gassed and a bunch of people probed/banned after like a day because trannies were being discussed. At that point Hellthread was not allowed in BYOB or anywhere else so it just died. I think it could have used an offsite but truth is that in 2016 it probably would have ended up on discord or something and I'd never end up seeing it.
