r/mendrawingwomen - "STOP DRAWING WOMEN THE WAY YOU WANT TO"

To give Total Drama credit, at least their character designs, silhouettes, and the color schemes of them, made the characters easy to identify who is who. And in regards to the colors part, someone posted something about being able to identify which character is which, just be a three or four (?) color scheme.
Agreed, like unless the female character is really fat or something, a lot of very similar body types, but they still manage to look distinct from one another and easily pass the silhouette challenge.

Sorry for necroposting, just wanted to shill a few thoughts as someone who sometimes makes fun of plainly fetishised art/writing of female characters. This situation upsets me on a personal level since I can sort of relate to the frustration of some of these women. I was kind of like this too back in 2014ish maybe, when the Anita Sarkeesian-style critique started to pick up steam.

In the early 10s, many feminists were quite justifiably annoyed by the overabundance of the male gaze in society. Especially after the sexual revolution, the number of boobs on screen increased a gazillion times and as a child you could hardly avoid being confronted with an over-sexualised image of the female body wherever you looked. It immediately gives you a sense of otherness from the male half of the population, and to some extent, a sense of being less human.

Except these women have come to a completely wrong conclusion afterwards and went on to fight windmills. In a capitalist society where everything is built on satisfying consumer desires, it's idiotic to promote fat gender blobs or uglify women in male-targeted media. Instead, feminists should have been promoting more sexualised men for women and advocating for more female gaze to balance out the male gaze.

And no, while the female gazey male character designs exist, they are hardly on the same level of sexualisation as female ones. Even when comparing, say, male- and female-targeted smut, males are often depicted as more modest, sometimes the only fanservice-like thing about them is just that their faces look sort of handsome. Not to mention that standarts for what makes a man attractive to women is different in the eyes of male and female creators. BL with its explicit porn isn't even much of an exception here, since it also targets gay men and is male-centric. Ironic how the only time a woman allows herself to sexualise a male character like a female one would be is in the gay scenario, in other words, from a male point of view. While a female character is either a piece of meat for a blank male consumer or gay/fugly goblin/non-existent to make unfortunate female geeks less insecure, no alternatives.

It's been years since Goobergate and these poor female autists are still yelling at clouds. This movement could have been all about improving and expanding female-targeted media, making new standarts for male characters and just creating new things for their fellow frustrated ladies, but they'd rather corrupt already existing works for men and harass other, far better artists. Shit sucks man.

Women clearly don't want or desire to see sexualised men in their fiction, otherwise we would have it already. It's almost like women aren't turned on by sexy men the same way men are turned on by sexy women.

What use would more "promotion" of a thing that doesn't happen have? You might as well be promoting menstrual cups to men.

lol wut

You need look no further than this thread to argue that this is far from the truth. In a double-standard fashion, many of these subreddit users thirst over parody art depicting anime dudes posing and dressing like female coomer-bait characters. I have a feeling that one of the reasons they are so salty and controlling is because they wish there was more of horny shit like this, and are annoyed that most of the visual eye candy is male-oriented.

Why are things like that at all? Well, it's too big a topic to discuss here, but in a nutshell (and imo of course) female heterosexuality is still far too closeted, filled with guilt and gets the short end of the stick in society's eyes, even in the current year. So many women tend to get off on things that don't show them women not covered from head to toe, like literature where everything is written, not shown, or BL porn where there are no women to begin with, so there's no anxiety over being seen, hurt or judged. It's hard to explain, kind of a psychological thing, maybe?

Sure, this also has to do with some biological differences between male and female humans, but I don't quite agree on the hard visual/mind attraction separation. Apart from varying from person to person, it's more of a mix for both men and women.

You are free disagree, too. I'm just throwing in some of my shizo thoughts on the topic.

You only have to look at the covers of romance novels to see what a lot of women want to gaze at: Beefcake Slabthews using his hands. Holding tools, holding arms, holding reins... the sort of women who read those novels want a big, sinewy, shiny-chested man who can fix the shelving with one hand and grip both their wrists at once in the other.

This is an extremely small sample size vis a vis the whole of womankind, and you can't honestly know what the people writing these comments actually think.

We live in a free market. If there was a market for men being sexualized for women's consumption - it would have happened by now.

There is, you just don't see it because it isn't aimed at you. Aside from the romance novels, there's all sorts. Every kind of media featuring a slender, hairless man (which means just about everything involving professional swimmers). Certain kinds of home improvement shows are wildly popular with a lot of women, who apparently find men doing physical labour intensely erotic. Anything where the lead male is large, toned, tanned, but not overly aggressive and not body-builder ripped will tend to appeal to female sexual interests.

And then there's advertising. The marketing world still operates on the assumption that women are the primary spenders in a household. When the ads are pitched at women wanting to make their husbands more desirable, they look like this:

When they're pitched at men, they look like this:

The former appeals to female sexual desire and is a lot more common. The latter appeals to male aspiration and humour and is less common.

Troons complaining about(virtual) women, what's new. Even in virtual spaces these freaks can't resist to erase traditional feminity(that they will never get) and thats probably why that shithole of a sub exists. But it is surely interesting on how did they make troon solipsism and modern feministic views on sexuality and attraction work, as the those two are contradictory to each other if you think of it for more than a minute.

The biggest problem is that this guy literally can't draw women. They're all dudes in dresses. And we know he can't draw women because no one on this subreddit would ever dream of making trannies that look like this.

On the designs themselves, I think leather jacket and blue sweater are okay, maybe maroon robe is a wizard or something and the others are disasters.
