TGWTG The Spoony One / Spoony / Noah Antwiler and Rachel Baker / @RaeAngel07 - The touching romance between a washed-up videogame reviewer throwing a decade-long pity party and his delusional Canuck stalker. #weaknotsick #donttellmehowtosulk

Silent Hill was in a dying genre for most of it's active life span. The PS1 drove survival horror into the ground and the PS2 moved away from it. RE4 is the best selling survival horror game and it's debatable if it's survival horror any more.
>PS2 moved away from survival horror genre
>RE4 is the best selling survival horror game (and came out on PS2)

Silent Hill was such a niche it introduced me to the artfag and fanfiction scene way before Youtube was a thing and despite me being a PC master race guy who didn't even play a Silent Hill game before.

What does Spoony even do for money these days? Surely, he's getting a monthly tugboat from the government, while living in his brother's basement by this point.

According to VGsales figures wiki

Things were a bit more segmented back then, you're correct, but a million in sales in the 90s was laudable regardless of what genre or title we're talking about.

Like, Mortal Kombat II sold 2.5 million copies. Final Fantasy 7 blew the doors off of that number, but it was (at the time) an anomaly.

It is easy to look back at sales figures like you're looking at the Steam store, but the plague of AAA titles hadn't yet come along so there was room for weird shit to percolate and people tended to be picky as a result.

Spoony isn't getting a tugboat. He has depression. Everyone has depression. There's no way he went through all the byzantine bureaucracy to secure a SS disability check. He would give up before completing the paperwork. There's also no way he would keep going and re-applying after his first rejection. Dude's a quitter. Plus he lives in AZ, not CA or IL. That state isn't breaking off money for the rest of your life just because you asked.

Spoony probably has whatever money he still has squirrelled away from before and just mooches off his parents and brother to buy a bean burrito every once in awhile.

I binged watched a lot of his videos lately. I have some nostalgia to the skit/gag style of reviewing from 15 years ago. Modern reviews are either too long or ironic/meme filled.

Also did he censor his old Ultima reviews? I'm pretty sure he had more scenes of child slaughter.

you can really notice it in his final fantasy 7 review, the first hour of it is really unscripted and non linear, talking about each aspect of the game and slowly working through it.
the thing is like this too, i think some of doug walker rubbed off on him where everything has to be scene by scene rapid fire one joke a sentence.

watch the thing and demolition man in a double feature if you want to see what im saying.

this linear style of reviewing is outdated, mandalore gaming i think is the best modern classic games reviewer and he's a spoony chad so all is well

That's why I said that many channels do the same thing he did but better. I think now if he started back up he'd be considered a copycat by new viewers who didn't know he did this sort of review first. To get anywhere today he'd either have to change his style which I doubt he'd do or amp up his skits which I don't think would work today. Channels that do skits in their reviews keep them short with some preferring stories or jokes that carry on into new videos. He could destroy all expectations and become a VTuber instead.

Pagan review still has child mass murder to Adagio for Strings, so no? The biggest over the years censoring IIRC is removing I Believe I Can Fly from Ultima 9 review which is Yahwe dabba damn bad as that bit was screamingly funny.

He'd also have to spend a lot of money he probably doesn't have to up his production quality, or switch to being a PNG-tuber. The latter is the better option because he is depressing to look at, but would also mean commissioning an artist to make a bunch of different stock reactions.

Even the average bedroom YouTuber uses an HD webcam and throws up some bisexual lighting to set the mood when they have to appear for their audience, and I don't think Spoony is willing to make that minimum effort.

So he either needs to commission an artist with money he doesn't have, and still likely needs to update his PC, his mic, maybe even do some sound treatment for the room. A cartoon version of himself in his prime could work, and certainly be more presentable than how he usually appears these days.

Or buy a camera, lights, sound treatment, mic, still upgrade the PC, etc. with money he doesn't have.

Basically all of the shit he needed to do ages ago when he could have afforded to do so with patreon in his own house.

We're back to that part of the Spoony thread cycle when people speculate what Noah could do to make a comeback and ignore he's a fourty-something borderline schizophrenic bum couch-surfing at his brother's house.
Not all of us. What I said is the shit he should have done 10 fucking years ago now. If he wasn't going to do it when he had income and a space to do it, how the hell is he going to do it now?

We haven't quite hit the phase of people seriously hoping this fucking bum in his 40's living in his brother's house, who has no actual friends(the only thing he's made any mention of doing since moving back to AZ was going to a b movie festival thing with his brother), will somehow use his 20 year old CS degree and 2 weeks of real world job experience to fund his miraculous debut any day now.

I have zero faith in Noah to do anything we suggest --we know how he reacts to being given advice-- I just think it's fun to problem solve, especially with lolcows who are so far gone.

In terms of more general chat, I discovered while browsing his channel for my last post that we're only 1 year away from the 10 year anniversary of his last upload of new content. I didn't realise so many of his more recent videos were re-uploads, and after clicking around it seems like this was the last video posted that wasn't a re-up.

I can only imagine how long that render queue must be after 10 years.

welcome to the absolute state of the spoony chad holdouts. we are in year (7) of our theoretical discussion about the hypothetical return of a youtuber who has been retired for twice as long as hes been making videos

Yeah, that Ecto Cooler video haunted the front page of his now defunct website for a long, long time.
